Nawazuddin was his find. His earlier films, including this, were made in limited budget, on real locations, casting high-potential but less recognised actors.
Let me put it like this. As someone from India, I know Indian movies nowhere comes to the US/UK movies in term of idea in every aspect. But this film is the only one I know as a realistic neo-noir crime thriller in the World, and it is for me one of the best neo-noir crime thriller I have ever seen. I hope this film could have got much more attention than it have, but unfortunately we are following the tradition - helping the makers of romance in paddy-filed type movie make a lot of money!!

This was the movie that shot Nawaz Siddiqui into fame. He is abso-F*ckin-lutely amazing in this one...! Netflix had Gangs of Wasseypur on it as a "Limited Series", which was just part 1 and 2 broken down into 7 or 8 episodes. It's not on it anymore. :(

Fun fact: the movie is based on real life rivalry between 2 gangs of suraj deo singh of dhanbad, wasseypur and faheem khan of wasseypur. Look it up
Anurag Kashyap is so quirky. Even for the music he chose Sneha khanwalkar. She travelled through many parts of India, found local artists, people playing on streets, and created this very unique sound for the film. I think there's an interview of her talking about the songs. Do watch it.
