Getting more rewards from killing the entire crew is why I run a Mantis ship every game. Don't carry this strategy on for fighting the flagship word for word though. If you kill all their crew members, the flagship goes into AI mode and starts to self-repair. One of the crazy mechanics about the flagship is that it breaks into pieces as you progress to its different phases. So you could say: "hey, I'm going to leave one enemy crew member alive on the missile deck which is isolated from the rest of the ship, that way it won't change into an AI ship once I kill everyone else". Well, guess what, those missile systems physically break off from the ship when you blow it up in phase 1, so that crew member that you wanted alive just got yeeted into the black void and the ship is fucking way harder to fight now. Also, upgrade your med bay one-tier. That's my only "cheater wiki" advice, you get a shitload of blue options if you do that.

Played FTL through highschool with the boys. Still play it today. 10/10 timeless classic and didnt realise it a decade old.....crap time sure does fly.
I always thought the Vulcan chain gun was the best. Yeah, it takes a lot of power, but if you use the auto system and just have it focus on shields or the engines, it progressively shoots faster. It's not the best for short combat scenarios, but when a fight is long and enduring like the main boss, it really helps a lot. Not to mention while you leave it running by itself and only changing targets when needed, you can use a burst Laser 2 and a beam weapon to time it with pause and do a deadly barrage of fire.
I also like the Vulcan a lot. One of my personal favorite weapons. I didn't make the tier list, an FTL speedrunner did, so I would've put it up SLIGHTLY higher, but I get why it's there. It's a huge investment into several areas (time wasted waiting vulnerable for it to shoot faster, scrap for upgrading weapons system and reactor, easier to be disabled via damage to system due to high energy requirement). The Vulcan's job, in ideal circumstances, is often done more efficiently by a couple flak guns and a beam or a laser. Still love the Vulcan and usually end up taking it every time I see it though.
The main issue with the Vulcan is that it takes a while to get going and losing power to the weapons system can reset its rate of fire which is a bit of an issue, especially if the enemy happens to have missiles. Vulcan is great for long fights but sucks at short ones
@Atomic Alchemist don't remember the power reset, but now that I think about, pretty sure you're right. Also, the rest of what you said I'm pretty sure I already pointed it out lol
Best systems for vulcan: Weapon pre-igniter (full gun charge when entering a beacon) Titanium system casing (chance to nullify system damage) Automated reloader (increased charge rate)
Verac? *And* one of the very first games I played on my PC?? It took like three videos for this guy to become my favorite reviewer. Keep it up man this shit is great.
Here are two tips that work wonders for every run I try: 1) Don't upgrade your reactor early on. Encounter difficulty is based on a combination of how many sectors you've progressed and how much you've upgraded the reactor. If you can avoid upgrading your reactor as long as possible (careful management, recruiting glowy bois, etc) then you ensure the first few sectors are less risky. Even better if you: 2) Upgrade your shields to level 2 as soon as possible. Many early enemies lack the fire power to punch through two layers of shielding AND do real damage before the shields come back up. Not taking hull damage early means you don't lose your precious early scrap to tons of repairs. If your power feels a bit low, you can always pull from engines: dodging doesn't matter if you can tank hits. Just make sure to target enemy weapons systems ASAP if they have missiles, since those bypass your shields.
I got the game yesterday because of this video and i begin to value doors more and more every playthrough. Your ship is on fire? Open the airlock and open the doors so that the fire dies out due to lack of air! Intruders? Use doors! The only problem with overusing airlocks and doors i find is that it's risky during combat as you are actively blocking off bits of your ship by opening an airlock. I was so overwhelmed with fire and intruders one time that after i destroyed the enemy ship which was causing the havoci airlocked the entirity of my ship ecxept for one room so all the aliens and fire go away
14:04 Always always and I mean ALWAYS get a redundancy point in oxygen systems whenever you play or you might have an oopsie and your entire crew will die from oxygen deprivation if the system gets damaged. Whenever your ship gets invaded, put a crew inside the door control room to make it easier to lock intruders in. Missiles are strong as hell (and for that same reason annoying) as they pierce shields *except for the zultan one*.
i really love this kinda videos, the commentary is kinda feral and chaotic, like beeing out with a friend in a bar that permanent calls out trouble and your r sittn there and just wait for the trouble to arrive with kinda exitment...
And for those who have already played FTL a ton, check out the Multiverse mod - it's practically FTL2, and I'm honestly a bit surprised FTL's devs haven't made it an official expansion.
I remember using the rock cruiser and losing one of my crew members, so I went through 4 more sectors with my 2 rock men I named “rock hard” and “bricked up”, brings back memories
As someone who just picked up the game, thank you so much for the weapon tiers at 16:08! One of the first guns I picked up was a chain ion because it sounded cool and I did not know that Ion damage was so very bad
My favorite way to play it is by asphixiating the enemy crew. No need for fancy lasers that only disintegrate bio-matter, risk my precious crew by sending them into the enemy fortress, deal with the strong defenses of a ship from a highly advanced civilization... Simply make sure they slowly die one of the worst deaths one can have, and you have nothing to worry about XD. ...Well, except the Final Boss being able to work without a crew thanks to it's AI which costed me my run the first time I reached it focusing in this strategy XD.
Wanna know what I also highly recommend if you like ftl? Play with mods, specifically multiverse, to say multiverse is bigger than the original game is an understatement it has so many playable ships that it needs 18 pages to fit them all compared to one page in vanilla. It's expansion of the limited lore of the original game is vast, expanding many of the lore of many races and factions, adding factions WITHIN each race, and having unique named crew members of every race that have special unique abilities entirely distinct from the entire rest of their species. The style of writing in multiverse is also very distinct and also flexible depending on your personal preference and choices, you could take things seriously and really immerse yourself in the world, but also at the same time you are CANONICALLY a multiverse traveling renegade who has destroyed the exact same flagship and been to every single sector literally countless times so you have a canonical explanation for being a complete sociopath who couldn't care less about the lives of people and goes completely murderhobo as a result and such choices feel just as natural, and it plays well with the distinct sense of humor in the dialogue of the game that is often quite absurd, for example in floral sectors (a new race added in multiverse) there's a random encounter where you can steal flowers from a space station's gardening plot, just for a floral ship to arrive, tell you that is essentially a bunch of floral children you just murdered and calling you a monster. You can either claim ignorance, and in which case the ship lets you go as long as you hand the flowers over and you take a hit to your floral reputation (another mechanic added) or you have the choice to double down and take them with you sending the ship into an outrage, starting a fight, and HARSHLY lowering your reputation. There's little to no benefit to doubling down it's a choice purely to be a deranged asshole and I ADORE IT. On top of events like this there are countless pop culture references to draw humor from, and really I could just go on and on thid mod is simply brilliant.
Despite knowing this game in and out, having put it away after exhausting everything in vanilla to experience, I still watch this in full. Very entertaining.
I too have mild to severe autism. I love faster than light so much. It's in my opinion more fun then into the breach but both games are bangers. Banger video as always
The ships layouts are pretty neat. Type A are a basic ship meant for a specific role (blasters, beams, bombs, boarding, etc) Type B are what if a basic ship hypered focused its specific role, Mantis being a great example sinces its B has no weapons, 2 layer shield bubble, a defense drone to shoot down missiles and meteros and a 4 space teleporter, wich is amazing. Type C are one of 2: It makes your ship use a complety diferent aproach with more exoteric systems (Clone bay, Hacking, Mindcontroll) or weird weapons (Flak, custom unqiue weapons, etc) or its downright Garbage and forces you to play with a massive Handicap... IM LOOKING AT YOU ZOLTAN C! Edit: After rewatching the video i will say... looking up how to unlock each Ship type is not a bitch move, mainly cause are harder to get and require specific things for them. (Just look at the Crystal quest)
One of the funny tactics I like to do, is get a teleporter and mind control. You can teleport the mind controlled person back since they are technically your crewmate, then when the control wears off, you beat the crap out of them. Not efficient but funny.
Vera this felt like Handsome Jack was doing this review AND I LOVED IT!!!! Did you do others in this style? Because honestly a "Handsome Jack Reviews" feels so right ...
I think the reason wireless communication isn't much of a thing (at least not enough of a thing to just send the message to the federation instead of couriering it to them) is kinda in the name of the game. Faster than light. These ships move so fast they outspeed electromagnetic waves typically used for wireless communication, meaning they're only really useful for communicating with ships in the general vicinity of yours
This is the first video iv ever seen on your channel and you have instantly won my subscription, well done. edit: *Correction... second video... I did not realize I already watched your ROR2 video*
I really like the modding scene of this game you can make female characters appear more in the game, because apparently that's a thing with a low chance of happening or you can make so instead of the basic guns you can have weapons such as... uhhh... ion gatling gun? that is a strong one
I’ve had the space station spider event more times than I can count and I’ve lost tons of characters to it because I always tried to help anyway. I remember having a positive outcome once, and only once, where every crew member survived. I have no idea what I had that made it a positive ending. But I remember the shock of nobody dying, and whatever the reward was, was incomparable to the fact nobody died to the spiders. Even with the good ending I would say “not worth it” unless you just want to say you’ve seen the spiders and lived.
I stumbled across this video by the grace of the UA-cam algorithm, and it reminded me that I still have FTL in my Steam library, and had just cleared it out of my hard drive because I hadn't played it in long enough it felt like it was just taking up space. You've made me want to play it again, so much so that I was downloading it before I even got halfway through the video, and I am fully prepared to be turned into scrap for the next 4 hours as I learn the game again after years of not playing. Feels like forever and a day ago that I was able to consistently get to Sector 8, good times. Also fuck the Slug Nebula that place SUCKS
1:17 Gee golly, it sure would be nice to be able to wirelessly transmit this sensitive data. Perhaps over encrypted radio. Which is bound by _lightspeed._ In a game called _Faster Than Light._ I'm sure the Federation will be quite glad to receive your transmission, in approximately 500 years while it crosses the sector the slow way. Or, you could... y'know... _use your gorram jump drive._

Played FTL through highschool with the boys. Still play it today. 10/10 timeless classic and didnt realise it a decade old.....crap time sure does fly.
we await the Monster Girl Quest review
@@Verac_VG makes sense
@Atomic Alchemist don't remember the power reset, but now that I think about, pretty sure you're right. Also, the rest of what you said I'm pretty sure I already pointed it out lol
Best systems for vulcan:
Weapon pre-igniter (full gun charge when entering a beacon)
Titanium system casing (chance to nullify system damage)
Automated reloader (increased charge rate)
Verac? *And* one of the very first games I played on my PC?? It took like three videos for this guy to become my favorite reviewer. Keep it up man this shit is great.
Here are two tips that work wonders for every run I try:
1) Don't upgrade your reactor early on. Encounter difficulty is based on a combination of how many sectors you've progressed and how much you've upgraded the reactor. If you can avoid upgrading your reactor as long as possible (careful management, recruiting glowy bois, etc) then you ensure the first few sectors are less risky. Even better if you:
2) Upgrade your shields to level 2 as soon as possible.
Alternative title: Verac outs himself as a Undertale Muffet enjoyer.
PEople have been born and can play this game given how long ago its release was. Damn it is AWESOME we can share all this with ease.
Yeah, garbage bombs, mantis strats and mind control can pierce the supershield with the "zoltan shield bypass" augmentation
In the multiverse mod, Giant Alien Spiders Are quite literally, no joke.
This man really made a video about darkest dungeon and then one about FTL two of my all time favorites
FTL is hilariously grim when you realize "Information that cannot be transferred wirelessly" could be Federation-speak for *hostage*
or it could be you, the player
i really love this kinda videos, the commentary is kinda feral and chaotic,
like beeing out with a friend in a bar that permanent calls out trouble
and your r sittn there and just wait for the trouble to arrive with kinda exitment...
As a crusader I do like your "we are the good guys explanation" and I fully agree with it.
Not even 5 minutes in, and this mans is incredibly based. Gotta love spider girls! More arms to hug :)
Type A are a basic ship meant for a specific role (blasters, beams, bombs, boarding, etc)
Type B are what if a basic ship hypered focused its specific role, Mantis being a great example sinces its B has no weapons, 2 layer shield bubble, a defense drone to shoot down missiles and meteros and a 4 space teleporter, wich is amazing.
Yeahhhhh this is easily one of the most entertaining FTL vid I've seen so far. Damn great job.
Also, anti-bio beams supremacy
My verac itch has been satiated,my withdrawal fulfilled and now…I got a new game to play …a curse of watching this man but
I’m not complaining.
Your channel is gonna get big. I can feel it.
I subscribe last night because of the Vermintide & Darktide reviews... And I get an upload in the morning? Glorious~
thank you
i can never play the spider encounter without thinking of death by snu snu
Vera this felt like Handsome Jack was doing this review AND I LOVED IT!!!! Did you do others in this style? Because honestly a "Handsome Jack Reviews" feels so right ...
I seriously love your videos Verac and i hope your channel keeps on growing!
The GIANT ALIEN SPIDER (Wicked Epic Pokémon Battle Theme Beatbox)
I enjoyed listening to Cave Johnson educate me on the Space Geneva Convention.
I was just rewatching some of your videos yesterday wondering when you would next upload. Perfect timing.
I've never watched a FTL video before but I'm glad youtube recommended me your channel tonight. Keep on keeping on brother
This is the first video iv ever seen on your channel and you have instantly won my subscription, well done.
edit: *Correction... second video... I did not realize I already watched your ROR2 video*
>Giant alien spiders
>Muffet in da thöömbnæil
I see what you're doing, boi
4:54 My favorite segment ever, please Verac, continue...
I really like the modding scene of this game
you can make female characters appear more in the game, because apparently that's a thing with a low chance of happening
or you can make so instead of the basic guns you can have weapons such as... uhhh... ion gatling gun? that is a strong one
I demand this man stream and have a discord so I can learn more from his culture.
“Giant alien spiders” Miss Muffet, that you?
Man, that thumbnail is making me feel things alright
I’ve had the space station spider event more times than I can count and I’ve lost tons of characters to it because I always tried to help anyway. I remember having a positive outcome once, and only once, where every crew member survived. I have no idea what I had that made it a positive ending. But I remember the shock of nobody dying, and whatever the reward was, was incomparable to the fact nobody died to the spiders. Even with the good ending I would say “not worth it” unless you just want to say you’ve seen the spiders and lived.
Good quality vids as usual. Love it ! Keep it up !
By All-mer, I have been blessed to comment first.
Eyo fear and hunger fan!!
I would love to see Verac tackle the fun dungeon.
You couldve just made a normal thumbnail, but you decided to do that instead, which lured my monkey brain. I am not disappointed.
Which is bound by _lightspeed._ In a game called _Faster Than Light._
I'm sure the Federation will be quite glad to receive your transmission, in approximately 500 years while it crosses the sector the slow way.
Or, you could... y'know... _use your gorram jump drive._
Found a diamond in the rough. Good content, I'll be looking forward to more.
Probably the only backed game that turned out really good.
I came for Muffet in the thumbnail.
... Wait, no, NOT THAT WAY--
I've been playing FTL since 2012. Great game! Remember to teleport your invading crewmembers back before blowing up the enemy ship.
Blow up the ship? Why not remove anything that is alive?
Ahh so much nostalgia :3
I need to redownload this game along with some mods and play it again sometime soon. Such a wonderful game
I never thought I'd see FTL again, loved this game so much its one of the few I 100%
Just found this video on the feed, saw all the muffets, subscribed immediately, I would be FOOLISH not to follow a man with such FINE taste.
This video is the first video I ever saw on FTL. I now own the game. It single-handedly sold me on it.
Looks like a funny fusion of Duskers and Highfleet. Maybe I try it after I finish Into the breach.
Interesting enough; "Into the Breach" was also made by the same folk who made "FTL", and they're kind of mechanical opposites.
"FTL" is largely randomized, while "Into the Breach" is largely more about the Strats... or am I remembering wrong?
@@themaskedmysadaean8885 >Interesting enough; "Into the Breach" was also made by the same folk who made "FTL",
That was even mentioned in the video
>"FTL" is largely randomized, while "Into the Breach" is largely more about the Strats... or am I remembering wrong?
That would be correct, ItB has way less random stuff compared to FTL
@@AtomicAlchemist Ah, my bad. My memory's failed me at this time.
VERAC LIVES!! *STOMP STOMP*
Ahh verac, truly glowing in the dark... of youtube depths naturally.
This video made me try out FTL again for the first time in years. Like last time I played it there weren't any achievements.
Managed to accidentally get a very rare achievement after happening across a flame laser and the promptly using it to set litterally every room of an enemy ship ablaze
I've struck gold, not only with discovering this game, but also this channel aswell.
I know it's not how they look in the official art, but I've always seen the Engi sprites as Vortigaunt-shaped.
I want FTL but as an open world. Think it would be a lotta fun if they came back. Too the systems they have and made a full open system to explore and do stuff in
Fun fact: someone made a vrchat world thats heavily inspired by FTL, its super fun to play and called fate of the irrbloss
Nah this mans editing is underrated 💯
What an accurate description of this game. I only found out about this a week ago and already this is one of the best games I've played in my life.
Worth mentioning that the game also has a couple of really good mods that extend the gamplay while keeping it roughly the same. "Captains Edition" and "Multiverce". Give em a google if you are done with the base game.
High quality content. Thank you funny wolf(?) man
As the first commenter to correctly identify the animal, you win! I don't know what you win, but you did it. Congratulations!
@@Verac_VG I demand 1 (one) corn chip
I'll see what I can do.
I am playing Starsector right now, and i have battleship 0:52 depicted here, complete with orange paintjob and a compliment of drones thanks to an FTL mod someone made.
I reckon some of the ship have familiar shape like in vanilla starsector
Being called Captain so many times may have awoken something within me
New Verac video ladies and gentlemen. Now with spiders!
I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite youtuber on the Citadel.
nothing better than some delicous verac content
This thumbnail and spider appreciation reminds me of a certain Undertale animation and it’s a good one
