    The bent rod is supported at A, B, and C by smooth
    journal bearings. Determine the components of reaction at
    the bearings if the rod is subjected to the force F = 800 N.
    The bearings are in proper alignment and exert only force
    reactions on the rod.

    Hey, you forgot to divide the 100 by 0.125 to find Az. Love the videos!

    Hey, on the moment equation about the y-axis, how did you get Cx(2m)? The moment arm perpendicular the line of the action of that force seems to be coming from the x-axis. Is the y-axis projected onto the x axis?

    hi, how do you figure out the signs for the reaction moments? Like what you do at 3:50 ish.

    Why did he not include Cx as part of the moment along the z axis?

    Az is equal to 800.

    Wouldn't the Journal Bearings exert COUPLE MOMENTS in the off axis direction of each bearing?, giving us 12 unknowns?

    • @adamowen366
      @adamowen366 11 місяців тому

      bearings are made to rotate within themselves, so it would be impossible for them to create a couple moment.

      @@adamowen366 but these bearings aren't ball in socket?? Atleast by the picture. Therefore those 2 degrees of freedom of the bar at each bearing, translation PARALLEL to the axis that passes through the bearings center and rotation about the SAME axis. Assuming we're going for static equilibrium, ruling out potential translation, wouldn't each bearing have 4 unknowns? 2 couple moments and 2 forces each unknown being mutually orthogonal to the axis that passes through the center of the bearing and is parallel to the bar. Giving a total of 12 unknowns???

    By his equation 4 when you plug in az=100 you don’t get 600 for by so what’s going on here buddy

      forgot that 100 was az/8 so actual answer for az is 800

    When you subtract -346.41+100= -246.41
    - 246.41÷0.125

    ig he also forgot to mention 2(cx) in moment mz cuz its also causing moment

    • @norukamo
      @norukamo 9 місяців тому +1

      Cx doesn't cause a moment about the z-axis because its line of action hits it.

    Warning: his moment equations are incorrect, if you backtrack and do the math using his equations you get a different answer from what he put. He's using the answers from the back of the textbook to get the answers you see on screen. Don't trust his method.

      All he forgot to do was divide the 100 by the 0.125.
