  • Two elusive creatures are buttering up visitors to Melbourne Zoo with their unique scent and shaggy style.
Binturongs Bhalu and Tugu are a sight to behold with their cat-like faces, bear paws, prehensile tails and - a natural scent that smells just like freshly buttered popcorn!
They moved in recently to a habitat formerly occupied by our coatis who have now moved into a custom designed retirement space perfect for a pair of senior coatis.
Zoos Victoria is a zoo-based conservation organisation, fighting for a future rich in wildlife. Learn more about our work at zoo.org.au

To me, they smell more like Doritos. I love them and liked to hang out at their exhibit when I was a zoo docent.

Always remember years and years ago visiting the zoo and standing at the coati enclosure when a group of primary school kids and their teacher came along. The teacher said something to the children like look, have you seen the roadrunner cartoon? This is what a real coyote looks like.

Do you have a North American working at Melbourne Zoo? 😊
