The airiness of the finale reminds one of the coming soundscapes of Ravel, especially with Le Tombeau de Couperin considering both works are takes on Baroque French composers.

I only made it to the fifth variation; quite Schumanesque, but then the French did love some Schumann.

Is that just quotidian equal temperament ?! I dont think I have ever had a stronger impression of ET’s out-of-tune-ness (!)
