Thanks man! I just started fly fishing this past year and it’s an understatement to say I’m hooked hahah so expect to see a lot more fly fishing videos in the future!
I've never caught a fish on a popper lure, but I've caught tons of fish on popper flies. Something about a gurgler that fish can't resist. I get most of my bites before I ever pop it.
just found your U-tube channel, late but better late than never as they say! really like your videos great bass fishing videos really like the fly fishing bass ones. looking forward to more in the future, keep up the good work!!!!!
Thanks man! I’m glad you’re enjoying the content! I have a lot of things in the works so be on the lookout for new content very soon👊🏼 probably 2 vids a week until mid January then I’m bumping it up to 3 a week. Anything you wanna see a video of specificity??
looking forward to seeing all your future videos, love the topwater fishing videos especially. In my part of the country fishing open water has come to a halt, don't do ice fishing so have 5 months to wait for open water. Really enjoy your videos keeps me going till open water season gets here. keep up the great work!!!!!
I agree, itnhas some advantages. Quicker follow-up casts, accuracy, fishing certain depths more precisely, casting behind objects. I would say downsides would be range and wind.
I TRULY BELIEVE YOU LIKE THE FLY POPPERS BETTER AND SO DO I. I AM A FLY TIER AND LOVE MAKING AND FISHING POPPERS FOR BASS. I THINK WITH THE PLASTIC POPPER YOU WERE TO FAST PULLING IT OUT OF THE BASS MOUTH. THERE IS AN OLD SAYING WHEN YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS FOR YOU YOU WILL NORMALLY STICK WITH IT AND CONTINUE TO MAKE THAT SKILL STRONGER. FLETCHER I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS BROTHER GREAT JOB.
The fly popper and hula poppers are legendary ' I've grown up using both of em catching large and smallmouth bass up to 5 to 7 pounds heck my PB was a good size 9 pound smallmouth on a frog hula popper and my PB largemouth 7 pound on a classic cork fly popper green and red' unique video there dude topwater fishin for bass is hella fun!🎣🔥🤘

Incredible fishery, this place seems here in *Brazil* where I do my Fishery. Hug!!!👍🎣
Got my like even before you got the spinning rod out. Amazing action. Nothing like bass on the fly though I do admit to gear fishing far more often than fly fishing these days.
Just in a days work... wait until these bass start schooling in next few weeks, I’ll be putting on a full blown clinic on how to slay bass on the fly lol
Just opinion….When using the spinning reel, your tip is down to the left, when you get a strike you’re raising to the upper right creating slack while trying to set the hook. If you were possibly able to pull back and reel on the left side everything should stay tight. Love the fly fishing section!
Correction Needed. That is a Double Barrel Bass Bug popper (Yellow Chartreuse) you were using from Flymen Fishing Company , not the one you linked to on Amazon.
Great vid! I think you may just be having a “bed of nails” effect with the conventional popper with the multiple hook prongs. Try a single hook on the tail with or without a treble in the middle or just a single treble on the end.
I never thought about it like that, but you are totally right. I always put single hooks on my tarpon lures because I see other people have success like that but never took the time think about why its better
You did a great job proving to the average person that a poor cast on a fly rod, does not preclude excellent, top water bass fishing. Work on the creep & jab first with the fly rod, as it's one of the hardest things to correct. Fly fishing is antithetical to spinning or baitcasting systems in general. Everything that makes a great cast with a spincast reel, ruins a fly cast. I may sound like a purest, but I'm still working through some of the hacks too. 👻 good luck to all who attempt to fly rod hang around long enough to obtain proficiency, you'll rarely go back to your spinning equipment again.
Oh!! The trauma you experienced was epic. I've never had such a successful day fishing for bass in my life. Yet still feel bad for many lost fish, crazy I know. Fun vid, may all your fishing trips be this traumatic.
I saw you said you fish NC but film a lot in SC. What area of SC. I’m in the Fort Mill area just south of Charlotte NC and fly fish for bass a lot. Always looking for good fisheries to try.
Try a softer action rod on the "conventional" popper, pretty sure your line was going slack giving ol' bucketmouth the chance to spit it, it's the sort of thing that drives a fella nuts, especially when you know your on the right lure, try a moderate or moderate fast instead of a fast action rod
Since you made this in 2019, I hope you have learned how to play a fish with a fly rod. Your hook set is okay but when the fish begins to run... let it run until the fish has taken out the line to the point you can use your reel. Stripping the line in is okay when a fish is on after all at this time you were new to fly fishing for bass. Good fishing and tight lines!
Would have sucked if that line jammed up your motor. You'd have spent the rest of the day going in circles! Unheard of that a single hook had more hookups than two trebles. Then again, they seemed to hit the fly harder. They just didn't fiully commit to the other popper. Great video though!
Thanks dude👊🏼 I was lucky that I was able to pull the fly line out before it got tangled up to tight. But as you can tell from the video I was astonished with how many fish I missed on the normal popper lol
Yeah I definitely try to wait normally but the fish this day were letting go of it almost immediately so I was more aggressive trying set the hook quickly
Amazing video but I think you could have landed way more fish on the regular pooper if you just loosened your drag bec the fish were just pulling the trebles through their lip. That is just what has helped me in the past anyways.
trust me that drag was loose lol but yeah I don't know why I was struggling so much b/c that's usually one of my best topwater baits far as hookup ratios goes
Awesome video!! You killed it on that fly popper!! Those are some nice looking bass you got there! Keep it up with the fly rod dude!
Thanks man! I just started fly fishing this past year and it’s an understatement to say I’m hooked hahah so expect to see a lot more fly fishing videos in the future!

Same!! Been reel fishing for years and fly fishing for only 3 weeks!
Love seeing you break the normal convention that bass stay close to shore for top water.

This video demonstrates why I prefer the fly rod. I personally believe it’s the better tool as far as hookup ratio and cast accuracy.
I agree, itnhas some advantages. Quicker follow-up casts, accuracy, fishing certain depths more precisely, casting behind objects. I would say downsides would be range and wind.

Hi Fletcher. I’m wanting to try fly fin fishing. Could you make a vid on how you rig up for it? What Lin’s and knots, etc.

This is in the US (estuvo en los estados unidos)

Tough day dude🤣
No kidding😂
You should do a San Juan/squirmy wormy vs senko worm
I’ll have to look those up!
I've actually tied a wacky rigged senko fly before worked great till I lost it to a toothy fella but it's a pain to tie
Earned a new sub. Cool vid man
Thanks man! glad you're liking the content and welcome to the channel! Anything you wanna see in a future vid?
@@Fletcher_The_Fisherman maybe do a video of your favorite summer lures/techniques
Niiice they demolished that fly for sure
Thanks brotha👊🏼 couldn’t have asked for a better fly bite then that
@@Fletcher_The_Fisherman for real they were on it like white on rice

Awesome video ! Where did you buy the fly popper from Fletcher ?
Correction Needed. That is a Double Barrel Bass Bug popper (Yellow Chartreuse) you were using from Flymen Fishing Company , not the one you linked to on Amazon.
Great fishing! What kind of boat is that? Maybe will fit for me too)) I see, you're feel comfortable stand up on it.
Good vid to
Great vid! I think you may just be having a “bed of nails” effect with the conventional popper with the multiple hook prongs. Try a single hook on the tail with or without a treble in the middle or just a single treble on the end.
Thanks man! It was definitely an anomaly🤷🏻♂️ I might try that if it happens again
I never thought about it like that, but you are totally right. I always put single hooks on my tarpon lures because I see other people have success like that but never took the time think about why its better
You dam Right,Enjoy Yourself.!!!!!!!
What type boat? Is that similar to a water scamp? Looks very stable.
Love the videos just found your channel would love love love to see more fresh water Lake fly fishing. Got a sub. From me

Nice day of fishing, especially with the double-barrelled popper! What type of boat were you in?
thanks man, the fly popper is a blast! It's a twin troller x10, I made a video about it if you want to check it out!
That black bass really did try stealing your fly.
What lake are you fishing at? Those fish are nice!! What popper are you using?
Oh!! The trauma you experienced was epic. I've never had such a successful day fishing for bass in my life. Yet still feel bad for many lost fish, crazy I know. Fun vid, may all your fishing trips be this traumatic.

Just a heads up, some of your Amazon referral links aren’t working (the ones on your gear list)
😁👍 Nice beauties!
Thanks! Nothing quite like a good lookin’ large mouth
That first fish was fanning a bed . Look at the tail . Male bass no doubt.
Cool vid
thanks!
What weight rod are you slinging?
What pound fly leader did u use?
0X
I wanna get into fly fishing and fly tying, but I don’t know if now is the right time
Why?
What weight fly rod were you using??
Hula poppers work well.
Whats the model of your boat
Are you fishing the Potomac? My buddie caught a bass that was black like that
They look almost exactly alike
No I'm fishing a small private lake

Loved that vid, may I suggest that you wait a tiny bit longer before you set the hook to ensure that the fish has it and set a little bit harder.
Yeah I definitely try to wait normally but the fish this day were letting go of it almost immediately so I was more aggressive trying set the hook quickly
Your rod needs too be stiffer for a better hook set ?
going to cast the same distance with each rod to keep it fair. LOL
That didn't last to long lmao
What state you in?
North Carolina but I film a lot in South Carolina
It’s the braid not the hooks! Braid and treble hooks don’t mix 😂 I would just a mono leader so it gives you some stretch
Did you just cut your fly line???
first!
great vid
Ayeee hype👊🏼 thanks man!
With spinning rod, your not really setting the hook hard enough. You were setting the hook harder on the fly.
Good fishing! Learn how to release a fish back into the water though
funny video:. Well, some days you eat the bear, and some days the bear eats you.
Do you think the hook change did anything?
I typed in the code as first viewer and placed an order and they called and said that the card was no good ?
Someone beat you to it then, sorry man better luck next time
You reacted great on the fly, but I think you were too quick on the rod/reel.
Fly tip in the boat, play every fish on the reel, or what happened to you here will keep happening, just make it a habit.
F
that was super racist thing to say about that bass!! lol
