S22EP48 | NORWAY Lauvvik Ferry into the LYSEFJORD

- The most popular options for visiting Lysefjord (and hike to the Preikestolen Instagram spot) is either a daytrip from Stavanger as part of an organized tour or a self-drive to Preikestolen parking lot. During the peak summer season Preikestolen hiking trail can receive between 3,500 and 6,000 visitors and it's not uncommon for hikers to arrive as early as 4 am to be ready to tackle the 4-5 hour hike. We didn't do any of the above. 😋
The hike itself is described as 'moderately difficult' and with literally thousands of people on the trail, there is no way that Lisa would be comfortable enough to overcome her acrophobia (fear of heights). The idea of queueing to a nature spot also sounds horrible!
Alas, we also had our leaky rear brakes to worry about and we opted to make our way to Lauvvik from where we could take the Kolumbus ferry into Lysefjord as far as Flørli. (www.florli.no/)
Flørli is popular for its 4444 steps right up the mountain - the longest wooden stairway in the world.
ABOUT US:
Welcome! We’re Andre and Lisa. A married South African Italian couple, who have been travelling together for almost 20 years, to more than 40 countries. In 2018 we gave up our professional careers and all our personal possessions in order to explore the world as full-time nomads.
Over the past year, we have travelled through 11 countries in Europe with our 20-year-old Motorhome. We’ve now started our journey south from Scandinavia, planning to travel the length of Italy with our sights set on reaching Morocco by the end of the year. "We're going to take a nice drive in the general direction of somewhere". Lol, I love Andre's humour. This reminded of that Farside sketch where the map region says NOWHERE and the road sign says: 'you are now approaching the middle'.
But I wouldn't say the frustration of getting stymied by rain is particular to vanlife. If I've learned anything from backpacking (by error, in hindsight) it's not to hang around in 1 spot hoping the weather will improve and you'll get those precious shots 😏😉
Anyway, thanks for showing us all the off the (tourist) beaten track areas. Being an introvert this is my preference too. Ah tourists, duck and cover 😱😉
Love how you two keep it real. Very brave and vulnerable of Lisa to show her fear in this video. From another person who is afraid of heights...Do it afraid! Love your adventures and can't wait to do it ourselves one day.
Thank you Susan, really appreciate your comment!
@@lisa_the_nomad not to worry Lisa. Some theorists say that ppl with a fear of heights just have a highly developed sense of self preservation
Thanks @@susie9893 I like that definition! 👍
Well done Lisa for challenging yourself with those stairs👏
Timelapses on this one are excellent André, especially on the ferry.👌
Thanks Andy. Gosh, this feels so long ago now.
You visit excelentt places there are many beautiful places in Turkey I recommend it 👌
Oof that was a lot of steps and stairs there! Well played guys, loving the vid and nice to see something different in Norway than what we have been doing 🇳🇴😁
Thanks you! The following week was even more different 😬as we had to get our brakes fixed 😋Not entirely what we had planned for Norway. All part of the adventure though.
The pretty purple flowers are poisonous, so they are left alone. I really like your take on visiting hikes and the like. The lesser known paths can be just as, if not more enjoyable than the popular ones.
It's tough at times to remind oneself we don't HAVE to see and visit every attraction. But it's really essential for sustainable travel. Thanks for the info on the flowers, really interesting. ❤
Drive to North Norway and visit the Lyngen area :)
Definitely one day!
Yeah, I think I'd have just used the predicted rain to drive far north and hoped for better weather on the meandering drive back down (OR I'd have driven north in Sweden with all the flat land and driven back down in Norway)
