"support" ? I'm sure he can think of a better-fitting synonym…. perhaps with four letters the first of which being L ….. and ending in O V E ??? have we reached a consensus? ok good.
I'm so glad this is how they're wrapping up this story arc. There's not a dichotomy between a good marriage and an abusive one. There is a whole spectrum of marital problems and marital success. Izzy's and John's marriage seems to be unequal, with John making all the decisions and not accounting for Izzy's wants/needs. But that does not necessarily make it abusive. "Now you have a conversation with John. Tell him everything you told me." Emma, this is the first good piece of advice you've given so far. That's the advice you should have given Izzy a few episodes ago. Good luck back at school, Izzy.
YES. Marriages are much more complex than a lot of the commenters have been making it seem. PS If anyone wants a really cool learning experience, Where Should We Begin is a couple's therapy podcast I strongly recommend! You meet people struggling with all sorts of issues and come away knowing that you really didn't know much about how difficult marriage and relationships can be. 5 stars.
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'll admit I was rather disappointed when Izzy didn't say "you and Alex". I'm just thinking like "darn it, you had to do that didn't you?" lol.
I like how this storyline played out. It was good to show that Emma has good intentions and sometimes she can read people and see what they need. That is her job after all! And good job with the modernization by having Knightley support Emma! Sometimes *she's* right.
It's scenes like this one between Emma and Alex that make me so excited for when they finally get together. The emotional build up is totally worth the wait
Go Izzy! Being a stay-at-home parent is wonderful but it's not for everyone, if she is unhappy then her kids will pick up on it and they will be unhappy too. I'm glad she is standing up to John and making a change that will hopefully make everyone happier, after all can John really argue against the idea of a second income? Also glad Emma didn't mess this one up, you're growing Emma!
Alex's reaction was a surprise. I expected him to stay mad at Emma a little longer than he actually did, since it has to do with his brother... I guess his love for Emma kind of makes it hard for him to stay mad at her. While it was not the reaction I was expected, it was really sweet, seeing Alex and Emma actually talk a while in the middle. Seems like things between Izzy and John are slowly clearing up. It is nice to see that Izzy wants to go back to school, and that she is planning on talking things out with John. Maybe with a few more talks, they will start talking and listening more to each other.
***** Well just because he doesn't realize he's in love with her doesn't mean he isn't showing the symptoms of it. In the BBC mini series he says that he's loved her since she was 13 but just didn't know it (I forget what what it says exactly in the book but its somewhere around that age). So his unrealized love could cause him to not be able to stay mad at her for long. I also think that Emma saying that she listened to Izzy made Alex see that Emma really is trying to change for the better so that probably calmed him down quickly.
I really liked the Lizzie Bennet Diaries, but I actually love Emma Approved even more. Am I alone in this? I mean, come on, Knightley! And Emma is so perfect here. I love this to pieces! :) Also, P & P is done sooo much, it's nice to see more attention paid to other Austen stories like Emma.
I agree with you! LBD was fantastic, but it was lacking in terms of the romance. We don't even see Darcy until we're more than halfway through the series, but here the chemistry between Alex & Emma has been there since day 1
I agree with Emma 100% on this. John sounds like he's bordering on psychologically abusive. Isn't controlling the entire relationship one of the first signs of an abuser?
I think he is just a "control freak" and since his wife never fought back, always chose to compromise and let him make all the decisions, he got used to it...
I think it comes down to what Emma said few episodes back, John is planner and Izzy is pleaser. He's probably strong personality, who likes to have everything planned into details, while she is more conforming to him and to what she feels is expected of her. And since she didn't even admit to herself that she was really unhappy, it's not that John could actually notice anything. And since he was probably used to be a leader in their relationship and her following him, he didn't really think about it much.
The chemistry between Brent and Joanna just gets better and better. I love that Alex was willing to wait and listen to Emma this time and give her his support. He's never going to be able to resist a vulnerable Emma, even when he's not happy with what she did. I love how both of them are uncomfortable with the word siblings because of certain yet undefined reasons. AUGH, these two. Just smoosh lips already. It's all over your faces. And, you go, Izzy Knightley. Stand up for yourself, but most importantly let yourself be heard. Izzy needs to use her words. This is why I can't really see John as abusive - it's just him taking control because he perceives that Izzy takes his lead. Even when she makes a point (like with the kitchen redesign, she hasn't really insisted on it. Just quickly fallen in with what John said - in the interests of keeping the peace. Which is up until that point - FIRMLY CANON. It is nice to see the deviation in the modern context, here though. I took a little issue with the word "bored" about stay at home Izzy, but I can let that slide because the overall episode was just well done.
I agree with you on everything just not about the word 'bored'. Some people find it fulfilling and interesting to stay at home with their kids, but others aren't like that and apparently, Izzy is part of the last group. Remember that she didn't say that everybody would or should feel like her staying at home; she just stated how she feels herself.
***** Thanks for the added perspective. I hadn't quite looked at it that way. Agreed with everything you said. I have a friend, a former career person, who is a stay-at-home mom by choice, so that had rubbed me the wrong way. But, I'll admit I hadn't realized the subtle difference between doing that as an obligation and as a choice. So thanks for pointing that out.
Angry Knightley is my favorite Knightley. I've always been a bigger fan of Emma (the book) compared to Pride and Prejudice for this very reason. The dynamic between Emma/Knightley has always been feisty and passionately heated. I love how EA managed to preserve the awkwardness between Emma and Knightley concerning their siblings being married. It's like they're not quite fine with the idea that they're technically "family" as a result of their siblings' nuptials PROBABLY because they're romantically interested in each other (a point also hilighted in the 1996 adaptation of Emma--the one with Paltrow). Well done. Can't wait for the rest of the series to play out. Awesome!
GAHHHHH! All the Emma/Knightly feels!! Also, I'm really glad that they showed that John is really not the "abusive" husband that everyone seemed to think after the last few episodes. Izzy was clearly going through a life crisis. Yes, they have issues, but not something impossible to overcome.
This is something I've been thinking about for a while with regards to this show's popularity vs. LBD's popularity. This web series have everything you need to make a great show - a great cast, fantastic writers and producers, great plot etc. It should make sense that this show would be a UA-cam cornerstone, but for some reason this show is less popular than the Lizzy Bennet Diaries, but I think I figured out why. I feel like increasing the production value of the show has made this seem more like a television show than video's from someone's webcam has harmed the show somehow. There is a certain charm of having something filmed on a webcam, but for me personally the videos don't give off that same vibe. LBD was popular because it felt real and sincere. It felt like Lizzie was an actual human being posting videos online and not an actress filming up close in front of a camera, especially since in the series Charlotte "edited" the videos, adding her own personal touches like the annotations here or there and having The Lydia Bennet as a companion to the series. All of this only served to add realism to the show. Sadly, Emma Approved is missing that. Just my two cents.
I totally see what you're saying, and I even agree with you. The only thing is, is that I don't think that Emma would be one to post vlogs, she wouldn't have someone else edit them, and she wouldn't get emotional "on camera". That is not Emma's personality. She is extremely professional, and wants to come off that way in her documentary. There are times that she does show her emotions and let's down the wall, and I think that the creators and the actors are aware of those moments. There are times when Emma gets caught up in a discussion, I think in this episode especially, that it seems more real. The realism is that Emma acts to professional all the time, because that is her personality. I'm not trying to discredit you in any way, you do bring up a valid point. This is just something that I have thought about, and thought that you would like to hear a different perspective.
I think that´s a good insight and it does explain the decreased popularity, but I personally really prefer Emma Approved, I think better writing is just worth a lot and LBD often seemed unbearably awkward to me. My favorite aspect of it was Lydia´s plot. Also, Pride and Prejudice is the more popular story in general. Again, for a video series, I think Emma is more interesting, because the relationship with one dude isn´t quite so central to it.
80Insomniac80 I had considered that Pride and Prejudice has far more name recognition than Emma does, so that may have influenced viewership. But seeing that Emma Approved is made by the same people as LBD, you have wonder if it's a factor at all. It would make sense that since it's the same production company that people would still want to watch Emma Approved, but the viewership change is too drastic. I recall LBD having over 100,000 views in mere hours, but after several days many Emma Approved videos haven't reached that number.
Jesse Munoz Yes, it is a drastic change, and I think it´s simply because most people prefer the personal vlog-y style. (That style suited Pride and Prejudice better than it does Emma.) Plus you have the fact that Lizzie is just a super likeable character, while Emma is SUPPOSED to be a bit of a challenge for the viewer/reader. Basically, I think LBD had more mass appeal which doesn´t mean it was better. Just more charming, but charm isn´t everything.
Michael Moretti I agree that the LBD characters are more likeable and that that helped the show´s popularity. But your equating "girl power" with unlikeableness is not really fair. First of all, how was LBD not about girl power? It was very much about girl power, at least in part! Second, how is Emma Approved misandric? We have an adorable and morally upright Knightley, an endearing Robert Martin and an Elton who was written to be a bit of a nasty character but is really only a foil to Emma´s faulty judgment. And this subplot with Izzy? Emma is trying to help her sister´s marriage (which is like part of her profession) by encouraging what she believes in most: Confidence and standing up for yourself. She doesn´t demonize the husband, who is a part of her family and her best friend´s brother and everything. She just wants people to ask for what they deserve. Also, are you really that sensitive to misandry and easily put off by girl power? Jeez.
***** I feel like I don't see that tension as much here between Emma & Knightley as much as I do with Lizzie and Darcy. I think they ruined it for me. ;-)
@@miraghazy1989 am I the only one who thinks Emma & Knigtley have sexual tension & chemistry so strong in every single adaptation that it puts Darcy & Lizzie to shame? Plus in LBD, Darcy doesn't even appear wayy into more than half of the show.
This episode is so great. I love how Emma helped push Izzy to stand up for herself but ultimately Izzy figured it out for herself, and the Emma/Knightley is ADORABLE I cannot handle it I started squealing.
I LOVE what they have done with Izzy. There is TONS of implied discord between Isabella and John in the novel, but nothing as straightforward as this. I think it's great that they took those implications and ran with them, it makes Isabella less of a stock character. Brilliant on so many levels.
The way Alex says Emma with so much feeling and his tiny smile after she calls him just Alex instead of his full name and says thank you :D He's just too perfect, and he's finally listening to her! He supports her!!
Oh, Izzy. Izzy, Izzy, Izzy. I can relate so much to getting so good at telling myself "no" that I could do it before other people could. I want to give you the hugest hug. I'm so proud of you, Izzy!
Ahhh!! THE FEELS! Can Alex Knightly get any more perfect?! And was anyone else hoping Izzy was about to say "are you talking about John or are you talking about you and Alex?!" Even if in the book their marriage came to a total surprise to her and John! ☺️
John makes all the decisions anyway, so I totally side with Izzy. She said herself that she wasn't included in John's 10 year plan so she deserves to go be herself and do something for herself. Btw, I just love love love the chemistry bt Emma and Knightley. It kills me how great they fit together :)
+Katie Sauce omg I noticed it too!!! It was like he was going to lean in and then changed his mind! I wonder if they were already dating at this point in time?
THIS EPISODE IS SO GREAT EVERYONE IS SO HAPPY I JUST *FANGIRLING INTENSIFIES* Also this is the first time I have ever thought that the characters of Alex and Emma as they are adapted here had any sort of chemistry at all (YES, I realize there is other plot development, but I can't help loving a good romance subplot).
I'm so glad Emma got to help Izzy! It was obvious this time Emma had only the best intentions, and I'm also glad that Alex is noticing how much she's tried to improve since what happened with Harriet. :)
That was a quick, yet intense six minutes. Alex and Emma were cute here. I thought he'd show more disappointment, but I guess there's got to be some left for down the road. Izzy's going back to school! Yay! John needs to remember that he loves his wife and family more than his strict definition of his 10-year plan. . . Also that all plans need to have wiggle room for, you know, life.
Well at least now I'm pretty sure i know where this whole situation fits in the plot. I guess it serves the same purpose as the whole John vs. Mr. Woodhouse about where to take the kids etc., where Emma and Knightley end up resolving their differences by keeping the peace in their families.
I ADORE this episode. Mapuana Makai performed flawlessly. I actually teared up as she was talking about her goals. She and Joanna work so well together- I feel that their sisterhood is so believable. I love the character development between Lizzie and Alex here as well. So excited to see these characters become more... cozy... even though it will mean the end of the show! :'(
great episode, but I still have beef with them turning John Knightley into the "terrible husband" character, because he's one of my favorite minor characters in the book. he's so sarcastic and hilarious.
It's not really a "terrible husband" thing, though, it is a really common problem in marriages and any relationship that the wishes of one person dominate and the other person has to squash their own desires to accommodate them. Often people don't really realise that is what they are doing. He can be a good character and a good person and husband but still be domineering and insensitive.
***** Thanks for your comment. A lot of people seem to think that this version of Emma turns him into some kind of monster but to me, they turn that character into a very realistic chatacter. Very flawed yes, but a very real character regardless and not some kind of monster. Just a flawed human who has to realize his own flaws.
Everyone keeps going on and on about how Izzy is being abused by John. I just don't see it that way. Sure, John isn't really paying attention to Izzy's wants and needs, but how is he supposed to know what they are when Izzy doesn't even know herself? She didn't even know exactly what it was she wanted until Emma pushed her to stand up to her husband about the little things. Sometimes, when you are in a relationship, all you want is to make the other person happy. And making the other person happy makes you so happy that you don't even notice when you begin to become unhappy in other aspects of your life. Your significant other's goals and aspirations become yours too, and you want to help them in any way you can. John isn't being abusive. He just got caught up in his own dreams, and Izzy followed right behind. But now he has his restaurant. It is time for Izzy's dreams to take center stage.
How does Izzy not know what she wants? The only example we were given was that Izzy told John she wanted an open plan house to make taking care of the kids easier and he refused because it wasn't in HIS plan. That seems like she was trying to communicate and maybe gave up after never being listened to
Well one more video and another month is over. I wonder if finally Jane Fairfax will be introduced. I feel like they pushed her appearence back, and I do get why, but she's so crucial to the story. Great resolve, though, great Knightly, as always, and glad to see that Emma has learned something and already put it to use.
I dunno if you guys watch Alex Day's videos, but the way John is behaving reminds me of how Alex described how he used to be in his relationships, with the two paths and instead of meeting in the middle, he'll drag the other person onto his path. I'm glad Alex changed, and I hope John can too.
Awwww, I really liked the ending of this arc. It sort of redeems Emma while still showing she has a lot to learn, and makes the Izzy character (who is such a sweet wallflower in the book) much more modern and compelling. Good job, EA team!
2:11 Knightley says: "I...............support you." You could totally tell he was going to say something a bit different. Something that starts with "L" and has four letters, maybe?
Binging these after getting to episode 65 :) I really do think this arc was worth it - it highlighted so many important things, like Alex's support of Emma, and Emma's ultimate motivation to help the people that are important to her. It also boosted Emma's confidence after the setback with Elton, which I think was key to her unfortunate overconfidence in future episodes. If she'd never recovered properly I think it would have been a different story.
I know a lot people think it is awesome when Emma calls Knightley either "Alex Knightley" or just "Knightley", but I think it is really sweet when she just calls him Alex.
"I...support you, Emma." Support. Sure. That's what we'll call it. ;) "Are you talking about John? Or are you talking about..." Alex? ALEX? "...me and you?" She was definitely talking about Alex.
Gah, this episode made me a happy human. Izzy deciding to take control of her life; yes girl! That conversation between Alex and Emma and how you see how they view that their siblings are married; loved it all! Yay for a great Emma Approved episode! :]
Ok, I think I finally see the point of this plot as it deviates from the book. One of the reasons it takes so long to warm up to Book!Emma is that her mistakes don't really do anything but re-energize her until she messes things up almost beyond repair. Putting her in a situation where she is (partially) right again shows that she can be right and rebuilds her confidence without leaning on cluelessness or arrogence, as in the book.
I almost missed this one; it somehow got lost in my sub feed. I was a minute into episode 32 before I realized I was missing something. Some of that dialogue still seems on the cheesy side, but I think it's getting way better. Izzy, Emma, and especially Knightley do a good job of selling it. Harriet's dialogue always seems right in character, though. This was a pretty good character arch, with Izzy not knowing precisely what she was lacking until Emma really shook up her world. It's a story that seems pretty popular in modern media, but I still got really invested in everyone involved. (Unlike the Senator, who I just wanted to quit stinkin' up the joint.)
I KNOW! I was in a restaurant tonight and all of a sudden I glanced at the TV across from me and there he was, with a beard!! Crazy! I just yelled "IT'S KNIGHTLEY!" and then had to explain to everyone what I meant, which was OK if it gets more people to watch Emma Approved!
They are taking the effort to show healthy relationships and I love it. Not just Izzy and John addressing their problems, but also Emma and Alex not being the typical “they only get together at the end and then go happily ever after” couple - they are close friends, and have a relationship even before getting together, and they get angry at each other, and fight, but they also communicate and make up and are better for it 😊
As soon as Knightley spoke and stalked into the room, I could tell he was pisssedd. And that forceful "Turn off the camera!" made me jump a little because I'm so used to seeing chill Knightley. I think their little fight was too brief. Like, that the transition from angry to okay was too fast. But it's not unbelievable because the way she demanded to be listened to was almost desperate and John is a big softie when it comes to Emma so of course he softened up. She had the best intentions and he knows it. And those smiles at the end of their convo... *clenches chest and sighs dreamily* Also, I freakin' loveeee Izzy and Emma's relationship! :) Family is supposed to be encouraging and loving and kinda fighty and I think they've done a fabulous job with the Woodhouses. I really wanna meet John Knightley. He was one of my fave characters from the book because I thought he was funny and his homebody-ness and economical state of mind matched mine. We've only heard Izzy's side of the story and a part of me wants to believe that John isn't really that big of an ass and that maybe he just never knew how she felt because she never voiced her opinions strongly enough cause she likes to make others happy. I'm definitely not blaming Izzy but it's misunderstandings on both sides that cause problems like this. Maybe they'll go to Hawaii and come back super open with each other and with improved communication. Idk. But this episode was really good.
One of the best episodes so far. Loved the acting, the lines, everything was perfect. And I also liked the fact that Knightley looks really vulnerable to Emma, but in a positive way. They're paving the way for... ehm... the future!
I think Emma always tends to see to the heart of problems but she just doesn't follow social conventions which results in something going wrong even though she's right
+Alex Baldwin I completely agree, and honestly can't thank Pemberly Digital enough for translating that into the web seties...throughout the book, Emma adheres and deviates from societal norms with varying degrees of success and mixed outcomes and all of that's displayed beautifully here (:
I felt like the shift from anger to acceptance between Alex and Emma was a little abrupt, but other than at wonderful episode. I love the idea that Izzy wants to go back to school. It did feel more built up than lots of little things. And A+ acting.
You know there's no Izzy subplot in the book and the Knightley-Emma big fight is supposed to be over Harriet-Elton problem? I dont necessarily approve of this subplot but now I do, because the fight here is more personal that's why it kinda has more tension (and more squeal-worthy).
That´s true. But they ALSO had a major fight over Harriet-Elton, so I think they added this subplot both for something more personal and to just kinda increase the length and depth of the series. And the important thing is that it´s not just the exact same conflict over again but Emma´s grown and has learned to accept her own fallibility WITHOUT losing her characteristic confidence. And, like, the more heated they get in an argument the more you´re anticipating their making-out.
I first didnt like it because they make John as the black sheep, but in the new episode Emma said John stands by Izzy 100% so I like that at least they didnt change the dynamic between Izzy-John because that's my initial problem. AND yeah more argument -> more sexual tension, and Emma has grown so this subplot only highlight her change for the better so yeah, love this subplot.
This episode was just too good! Both the scene between Emma and Alex and the scene between Emma and Izzy were strongly acted! And I can get over how quickly the fight resolved because it meant we got to see how much Alex cares!
John reminds me of my friend's controlling, manipulative, estranged husband. The husband having absolute control over finances with the wife having no say is really unhealthy.
+Shy Galadriel I thought the EXACT same thing. And the way Izzy talks about him, she sounds/looks like someone who's been belittled and made afraid to disagree with their other half.
I don't think he is manipulative... just a "control freak". And considering that his own wife always took a step back, never supported her own opinion, I think it's more her fault that things got there... She set the tone of her marriage and as we can see he actualy listened to her this time and changed his plan for her... So it was a matter of her finally standing up and realizing she is just as important
Great episode! First Knightley and Emma fighting, but he realised that she wasn't wrong, such a great Emma/Alex Moment. And Izzy! I love that she#s standing up for herself, something, the book Izzy always needed to do! Love the sister bonding! Just really awesome!
I loved this episode. I loved the fight and then how he backed her up. A hug would have been nice, but the smiles were great. And I really love the sisters bond, it's one of the best things about have a sister.
the amazing turning point was when Alex stopped and considered what Emma was saying in her own defense was valid and how they were like immediately closer and more empathetic and grrrchhhh *melts into a puddle*
This episode was great character building! We see more of Emma and Alex's dynamic and also their relationship growing. I died when he said that he supported her, they sounded like a married couple! Also wonderful sibling moments! SISTERS RULE!!!
Soo has anyone noticed that Mr. Knightly ALWAYS leaves the room the exact same way, every time?
I have.
Someone needs to make a montage of all of his exits!
tiffanyruth10
He's got like this...power exit..I can't explain. Go re-watch the episodes you'll see what I mean. Same exit, every time or nearly so.
He might even enter the same! :O
Also, yes some should make a collab and post it here.
Edit: He does not enter the same, only exits.
Scheefinator I think he may have seen everyone talking about how much they loved him walking out that way and maybe he kept going with it after that?
I know! He always hugs the door, and his strides are really long and energetic -- like the fate of the world depends on him getting somewhere really quickly.
Desiree Geib
I certainly love it!
Alyssa Davidson
You forgot his hand in his pockets!
The Knightly Shuffle is a pretty adorable exit every time he leaves the room, hands in pockets, sailing on the Woodhouse winds. :}
"Ok."
"Ok?"
"I---support you, Emma."
HER-SMILE WHEN HE WALKED OUT AND SHE STARED AT HIS BACK, STILL SMILING. Sorry world, I need a moment... *feels*
"support" ? I'm sure he can think of a better-fitting synonym…. perhaps with four letters the first of which being L ….. and ending in O V E ??? have we reached a consensus? ok good.

YES. Marriages are much more complex than a lot of the commenters have been making it seem.

"Are you talking about John or are you takling about ..." ALEX SHE IS TALKING ABOUT ALEX "...me and you." (sights)
I literally was saying ALEX in my head too hahaha
I know... I was like: ALEEEX, not you, girl!!!
same, they need to be together!!!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'll admit I was rather disappointed when Izzy didn't say "you and Alex". I'm just thinking like "darn it, you had to do that didn't you?" lol.
IKR!!! argghhhhh
I like how this storyline played out. It was good to show that Emma has good intentions and sometimes she can read people and see what they need. That is her job after all! And good job with the modernization by having Knightley support Emma! Sometimes *she's* right.
OMG. Emma, marry this man immediately. You will never find another man like that ... ever.
It's scenes like this one between Emma and Alex that make me so excited for when they finally get together. The emotional build up is totally worth the wait
2:59 ... noooooww KISS ! now kiss ! NOW KISS!
HAHAHAHAHA, I was screaming that to the screen XDDDDDDDDD
same here. I felt wobbly in a good way when Knightley's voice went wobbly, and then Emma went wobbly and KISS ALLREADY DAMMIT! Also: great acting.
EVERYBODY was screaming that to the screen!
She kinda did but I get what you’re saying!!
Awww. Emma & Alex are adorable.
Emma: So what now?
Me: Nowwwww KISS!
My thoughts EXACTLY!!! Lol, the look on his face after she said thank you!
I also think that Emma saying that she listened to Izzy made Alex see that Emma really is trying to change for the better so that probably calmed him down quickly.
Emma is definitely right this time. Izzy is her sister, Emma's gut is definitely right.
We don't even see Darcy until we're more than halfway through the series, but here the chemistry between Alex & Emma has been there since day 1
"i... support you." that's not what he wanted to saaay.
CAN EMMA AND ALEX JUST MAKE OUT ALREADY THE TENSION IS KILLING ME
also i love seeing Emma looking out for her big sister. Such a lovely relationship

When Knightley said "Turn off the camera."
NO ALEX..THAT IS MY ONE SOURCE !
You go Emma ! This time you are right (I think)
OMG ALEX AND EMMA ALEX AND EMMA!! I'm having Lizzie/Darcy flashbacks and it's beautiful also I'M DYING!! so cute
Awesome!
This series makes my UA-cam subscription feed exponentially more awesome.
Does anyone else love the fact that Izzy named her kid EMMA? Sisterly love
Jeez.
2:46. "so what now" now KISS
HE LOVES HER SO MUCH I CANT STANDDDDDDDDD ITTTTTTTTTTTT. :D
Emma and Alex just need to make out and get married and have beautiful little Knightley babies already.
***** I feel like I don't see that tension as much here between Emma & Knightley as much as I do with Lizzie and Darcy. I think they ruined it for me. ;-)
+alireadsbooks that is the exact thing I am feeling about the book right now.
Yeah that's what I thought too. It's a shame, it would have been great to see Emma reduced to a state of speechlessness for once.
John makes all the decisions anyway, so I totally side with Izzy. She said herself that she wasn't included in John's 10 year plan so she deserves to go be herself and do something for herself. Btw, I just love love love the chemistry bt Emma and Knightley. It kills me how great they fit together :)
They're such great actors.
* squee *
Was I the only one yelling, "KISS! KISS! KISS!" like an alarm at 2:58?
+Katie Sauce omg I noticed it too!!! It was like he was going to lean in and then changed his mind! I wonder if they were already dating at this point in time?
Ha ha, so was I!!
I hope John will stop being a jerk when izzy talks with him.
THIS EPISODE IS SO GREAT EVERYONE IS SO HAPPY I JUST
*FANGIRLING INTENSIFIES*
Also this is the first time I have ever thought that the characters of Alex and Emma as they are adapted here had any sort of chemistry at all (YES, I realize there is other plot development, but I can't help loving a good romance subplot).
One of the best episodes so far! Strong acting and writing. Can't wait for Thursday. :)
Alex smiling WARMS MY HEART. UGHHH
The best interaction between Emma and Alex so far! Ahh I'm so happy they're not fighting anymore, they're too cute together.
Well at least now I'm pretty sure i know where this whole situation fits in the plot. I guess it serves the same purpose as the whole John vs. Mr. Woodhouse about where to take the kids etc., where Emma and Knightley end up resolving their differences by keeping the peace in their families.
I'm going to fucking cry when they kiss holy fucking shit.
Emma and Alex make my heart happy. I CANNOT wait for Emma's blinding realization.
great episode, but I still have beef with them turning John Knightley into the "terrible husband" character, because he's one of my favorite minor characters in the book. he's so sarcastic and hilarious.
I felt the sarcasm was part of the reason they decided to portray him this way.
OMG I loved that Alex Day video SO MUCH.
Awwww, I really liked the ending of this arc. It sort of redeems Emma while still showing she has a lot to learn, and makes the Izzy character (who is such a sweet wallflower in the book) much more modern and compelling. Good job, EA team!
Seriously one of my favorite episodes: the sisterly love, the izzy going back to school, and ALEX LOVES EMMA SO MUCH OHMYGOSH
A refreshing episode sans Harriet. I love Izzy! GIRL POWER! And Alex... just.. yes :) :) :)
Can we just look at Izzy's great acting for a moment? She sounds like she really is in that situation.
2:11 Knightley says: "I...............support you."
You could totally tell he was going to say something a bit different. Something that starts with "L" and has four letters, maybe?
Binging these after getting to episode 65 :)
I really do think this arc was worth it - it highlighted so many important things, like Alex's support of Emma, and Emma's ultimate motivation to help the people that are important to her. It also boosted Emma's confidence after the setback with Elton, which I think was key to her unfortunate overconfidence in future episodes. If she'd never recovered properly I think it would have been a different story.
This is my favorite episode so far. Easily. I love this.
Also don't you just *love* the moment between Knightley and Emma when they talk about strengthening the marriage between their siblings!
I know a lot people think it is awesome when Emma calls Knightley either "Alex Knightley" or just "Knightley", but I think it is really sweet when she just calls him Alex.
Alex Knightley, you really are the best!
"I...support you, Emma." Support. Sure. That's what we'll call it. ;)
"Are you talking about John? Or are you talking about..." Alex? ALEX? "...me and you?" She was definitely talking about Alex.
It was so good!
Knightley letting Emma follow her guts, Emma giving advice to Izzy and Izzy's realization. It was so good!
Gah, this episode made me a happy human. Izzy deciding to take control of her life; yes girl! That conversation between Alex and Emma and how you see how they view that their siblings are married; loved it all! Yay for a great Emma Approved episode! :]
"I look up to you every day!"
...and then she married a Knightley
i love angry knightley and then the quiet "okay" so much.
I saw Knightley on a tv ad! He had a beard. Almost didn't recognize him
what ad was it? need to look up. thx
Me too! last night... I said "wait, that's Knightley!" it was so nice and odd all at once!
I just have to say that Brent is really good at walking out the door with his hands in his pockets. He makes it look so easy to look so cool!
BEST EPISODE YET! But why was there no hugging?!? So many moments for Alex and Emma to hug and they didn't take advantage of them!
*clenches chest and sighs dreamily*
Also, I freakin' loveeee Izzy and Emma's relationship!
They're paving the way for... ehm... the future!
That little moment with Emma and Alex was so cute.
I LOVE THIS EPISODE! The acting is just superb. Love the Emma and Alex moments too.
I really like the way this worked out. As Knightly said, her instincts are better than her methods.
I started crying. The sisterly love and empowerment struck me in a way that I didn't think it could.
so much emotion!
THIS IS MY FAVORITE EMMA APPROVED EPISODE SO FAR.
AND THE EMMA/KNIGHTLY MOMENT MADE ME FEEL SO HAPPY.
Way to dial the tension up to eleven there...
loved it!!! one of the best episodes so far! Loved all the tension and the fact that Emma is getting back in shape!
OH MY GOD. I loved this episode so, so much! My favorite one so far. Emma listened, Alex listened, Emmex happened, then Izzy is back. I LOVED IT!
SO MUCH TENSION I LOVE IT
This episode was just too good! Both the scene between Emma and Alex and the scene between Emma and Izzy were strongly acted! And I can get over how quickly the fight resolved because it meant we got to see how much Alex cares!
I find it so funny how Izzy refusing the pack the car and get the kids ready = they can't go. Can't John do something? Or is he too manly?
Absolutely my favorite episode so far. I've already watched it three times.
"I... support you." Well, now I know how I'll be telling people I love them from now on.
SISTERS RULE!!!
the post-yelling conversation between Alex and Emma is adorbs
Alex literally walks out of the room the same way every time he leaves. Hands in pockets, a little head swing as he turns at the door. It's funny.
I'm SO glad I am not the only one that saw this. EVERY TIME that man has his hands in his pockets. hahaha
to keep himself from running back in and taking Emma into his arms - he has to literally restrain himself, hands in pockets, off he goes
HA! :)
MirandaScully NICE! Let's go with that one.
Oh and so many sister feelings!! Loved this ep!
"I support you emma" heart melts.
