The Eyes of the Dragon is pretty good, it's a fantasy novel of King's. It still has long descriptions and does talk from a "victim's" POV sort of but it's much more fantastical and I thought it was very well written especially given the genre jump.

@@Natalie_Hoover ahh very true. To quote Lemony Snicket, "Tea should be bitter as wormwood and as sharp as a two-edged sword."

For spooky books written from a female perspective I highly recommend T Kingfisher
The Twisted Ones had me in a chokehold and I didn’t open my window blinds for a week 😂

I’ve never read Stephen King books. I watched Misery when I was younger and hated it, so I was like well I guess I don’t like Stephen King. 😂
Those special edition books you got are so pretty!!!

@@Natalie_Hoover Im sure the books are good, I just don’t know if im up for that type of book yet hahaha. The actors did such a good job in the movie though! It’s been too long since I watched it so I don’t remember much but I know it drove me crazy watching it 😂

You should give a chance to "the talisman" it's one of my favourites of the King and it's a fantasy, not even really scary, I think might like it! (it's a long book, tho!)

I love Stephen King! Haven't read The Mist yet though. If you ever feel brave, the movie has different ending from the book - apparently King likes the movie ending even better than his own (I think I read that somewhere). Misery is amazingly unsettling. My favorite is probably the long walk, which is dystopia, so you might like it a bit better maybe.

Okiee dokiee. So his book Carrie is a LOT LESS SCARY 🫣! I’ve read a few of his books and they were a lot for my fantasy YA reader mind too lol 😝.

Haha Steven King books are VERY male gaze, the way he describes even children always makes me pause a little... every author has flaws but I mean

For me stephen king is really hit or miss - in my opinion Misery is the scariest and 11/22/63 is his best!

When I was younger, I was easily spooked. Like that sound Kayako does from the Grudge. Yeah no. Just no. That gave me nightmares.
At some point, I became sort of immune to the scary and started to learn how to make fun of horror tropes and all that. Though that makes me the person that keeps talking while watching horror. And it's all fine and fun until it's dark and too quiet. THEN my imagination goes all kinds of crazy.
Books, I can handle. Because there's no sound accompanying it, so I don't associate it and get spooked. I can limit my imagination and just "pass through" the weird stuff. The more horrific and farther it is from reality, the better it is for me, because it's too bizarre to be "real" and my brain would know that's not real.

I cannot handle horror so my Steven King tbr is just his books that aren't as... horror-ish? Horrible? Idk
