I watched it 7 times..Energetic, well danced. Liked the music too.Who cares what it is,I grew up going to barn dances where there was square and clog dancing, slow dancing and just plain old drunk dancing. The only thing mattered was if you had a good time. Good job people..
woowwwwwww what great dancers ye all are, and the beat and the music . I have seen many a dancers but ye take the crown ............ Fantastic ............... Ireland here
Peoples why are you fighting about ..it is square dance ...or clogging ???? Just put the video on and watch it !! They have awesome talents and precision . Just enjoy !!!! I am a clogger and they have some fancy foot steps !! ..love them !!
Why do I bother whether it's Square or Clogging or whatever? Because I know the difference, but those people I try to convince to start Square Dancing (we really need young dancers in our clubs in Germany or we're dying out) don't and confuse the styles. They then either want to clog and are disappointed that we don't or the other way round they think that in Square Dancing they have to jump all the time and they rather don't. Please if you put a video of a group doing Line Dance or Clogging put Line Dance or Clogging in the Title. Not Square Dance. Thank you!
It is easy to dismiss the importance of the differences when it isn't part of YOUR cultural identity. There are differences and they are important. While this is extremely beautiful it is NOT Square Dancing. Every primitive, folk, or country style of dance is not automatically Square Dancing. It's dismissive, and damaging to the continuation of the activity to label either clogging or Square Dancing as being anything but what they are. One is no better than the other, but people who do not know better will sign up to participate in the activity and then leave in disappointment either because it isn't what they thought or they don't know how to ask for what they want because they've never learned to correctly identify the style. Then clogging and square BOTH lose out on new blood to keep the activity going. It's a strictly modern convention that words can mean just anything you want in the moment and these are the consequences to that idea. Words, names, identity matter! They're important! This isn't just an issue of a slight difference in style based on various regions of the country- which do occur. This is just very plainly, simply and without room for debate NOT Square Dancing. 1. They have taps on their shoes 2. There are no formations of core squares of 4 to 6 couples 3 there is no caller/cuer = not square dancing. Sorry Awesome clogging though!
These are square dancers demonstrating Appalachian tap dance (clogging) at a square dance convention. No relation to square dance other than the very large number of dancers who do both.
Enchanting experience to see the lively dance by young dancers bubbling with enthusiasam. God Bless and thanks please Arnold J Chartrand for uploading . Good Luck in all your endeavours. Regards
Miriam Mile that is because they are CLOGGING but putting a few square dance movements in. Always bothers me when they would have clog dancing groups on tv as "square dancing". We would try so hard to get new people to start dancing and they would see something like this and say "I can't do that".
It's square dancing, there are different styles. It's not clogging because they are not wearing clogs or doing clog steps. It's more in the tradition of moccasin dancing that's close to the ground.
That is great dancing and it is such a joy watching this video and the music is really good to listen to. Skilled musicians and the dancers are amazing!!
It is indeed clogging. Clogging, contra, round dancing are all part of the wider square dance 'family'. I'd like to think all square dancers embrace the other dance styles. As a modern square dance caller, I'd love to be able to do this in addition to squares and rounds.
Clogging ... the Appalachian version of tap dance. It is a very popular form with almost as many clog dance clubs as there are square dance clubs. From the outfits, I would say that these are square dancers who also clog. In clogging the ladies skirts are shorter. These gals are wearing modern western square dance costumes. From the background crowd, this was not filmed at a "competition", but instead at a regional convention or festival where dancers from all over gather for a weekend of fun dancing and visiting. This particular dance was a special exhibition by a skilled group demonstrating clogging for all those interested in the dance style.
They are square dancers ... the outfits say that. They are an exhibition team demonstrating clog dancing at a regional square&round dance convention. This is normal as these conventions will have dance areas set up for the various skill levels of Modern Western along with Contra, Round Dance, Clogging and occasionally American Traditional Square Dance (Barn Dance). (All these regional and national conventions being labeled "Competition" is really misleading for those not involved in this very non-competitive activity--Yes there is competitive square dance, but it is difficult to find those groups...)
It's not clogging, because they are not wearing clogs or doing clog steps. It's just close to the ground step dancing. This is how square dancing is done in many areas.
angelfire, it's not clogging, rather it's tap dancing. Tap dancing and clogging are not the same thing. A clog is a solid wooden sole that is rocked back and forth which is vary different from a soft soled tap shoe.
That little guy was most energetic.
These young people are INCREDIBLE. Such a strenuous dance and yet they remain graceful and full of energy for over six minutes. Wonderful!!!
I really like the shorter dancer with glasses. His movements has more enthusiasm.
Ashley Campbell, Pat Mckay, Felicia Morrisseau. My Idols 🙂
That what I call a good work out love dancing. Native are the best dancers.
Einfach toll da kann man Stundenlang zusehen ❤❤❤❤😊

Wow just great!!! It's amazing what your version of square dancing has morphed into and I just love it.
These are square dancers demonstrating Appalachian tap dance (clogging) at a square dance convention. No relation to square dance other than the very large number of dancers who do both.

That is obviously a well routined square dance. With amazing steps and foot work must of took a lot of time to rehearse
This isn't square dancing. This is clogging.
Kathy Burke it's square dancing and it's Métis jigging NOT CLOGGING 😊 I'm a Métis square dancer myself. It's called Métis jigging
This is not the square dancing I'm used to but... THIS IS DOPE!!!! Oml I have some friends that would love this style of square dancing!!!!
Miriam Mile that is because they are CLOGGING but putting a few square dance movements in. Always bothers me when they would have clog dancing groups on tv as "square dancing". We would try so hard to get new people to start dancing and they would see something like this and say "I can't do that".
That’s funny. I think of it as the other way around…square dancing with clogging/step dancing added in.
Nice dancing
Impressive
They need a good sound system. How can we help them get one? They are so good. Fun to watch slowed down too

Arnold J Chartrand - whatever it’s called, it’s better than “twerking.”
Dino Kross , yep! 💐💐💐
I would last about 30 seconds
The group was short a woman dancer, so I had to dance for an hour while they taught others how to do the steps.
♡
That is Clogging not Square Dancing

A combination of jigging and square dancing IMHO
That is great dancing and it is such a joy watching this video and the music is really good to listen to. Skilled musicians and the dancers are amazing!!
looks to be more clogging the square dancing where was the caller in this if is was to be square dancing not to impressed by it

SHAMATTAKA
Nice dancing but it's not square dancing.
C
This is NOT Square Dance!
Although its impressive, they don't dance American Square Dance.
Silence begins now
Jana Sie these guys are Canadian not American
Squaredance. This is not Squaredance!!
Why do you say that?
this is not a SQUARE DANCE!!!!!!!!

Fritzrgc they can wear the outfits of a square dancer but it is clearly clogging. 100%.
It's not clogging, because they are not wearing clogs or doing clog steps. It's just close to the ground step dancing. This is how square dancing is done in many areas.
shirehorse91 it is clogging. You can do clogging in other shoes. I've done it.

Awesome!! Just wish the Native women would wear suntan or beige pantyhose!
