Hey Chad! Man, your video production just keeps getting better! Love it! After seeing this review, I’m getting buyers remorse for a pair of shoes I just picked up and haven’t put to the trail yet 😂. You mentioned that the shoe advertises having drainage ports but you couldn’t find them? Interested to hear how these shoes feel once they get wet, especially if the breathability is limited.
@@SeeChadRun if you are looking for another pair of shoes to review, I’d be curious to get your thoughts on the Altra Timp 4’s. I’ll be breaking mine on Saturday and wonder how they’d compare to the Puma’s.
might need to ditch my vn2 i get pain underneath my big toe on longer runs that i don't get when using dn2, and felt too stiff for me now that i got used to tge nitro elite foam of the dn2. glad to have bought it as my first running shoe though as seem like the puma line are good enough for my wide foot. excited for this year's puma lineup especially the dn3/dne3.
Just did an hour of muddy trail . It's a blessing when a shoe feels very comfortable right out of the box. I had to play with the lacing a bit but when the shoes aren't something you think about while running, I guess it's a bloody good purchase. I love them as much as my velocity nitro 2 🖖🏼🖖🏼 Such a great bang for the buck 😁
Have my eyes set on these bad boys (GTX version). I had the voyage v1 and have to say it's not a good shoe at all. Stiff, hard, heavy and too narrow... only redeeming qualities are the great outsole and aesthetics. The nitro magic (on the v1 and v2) is covered up with bad profoam EVA, makes one wonder why put nitro foam in it at all, as everything is muted. Anyway, its nice to see the v3 with "uncaged" nitro... now maybe this is something. For reference, I do enjoy my @puma eternity and deviate elite, have loads of miles in them and they are tough! For trails, I use the vectiv Enduris v2. Gotta love the cush 😀 Thanks for the review and I hope the v3's are good this time around. Cheers!
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the Voyage 3. The updated midsole is exactly what we wanted all along in this shoe. The outsole rubber and the upper are also nice but know that the upper is not nearly as breathable as compared to version 2.
I've ran in other shoes that had Gore-Tex and it works great at keeping water from getting in but it also doesn't breathe as well. The Gore-Tex version of the Voyage 3 could be a great option if running in the snow a lot
It would be great for hiking if you're looking for something more agile. It's not going to have as much support or underfoot protection as most dedicated hiking shoes (but that's the case for most trail shoes compared to hiking shoes).
Currently I'm using the Suunto 9 Baro, but I'm looking to buy the Suunto Vertical in the next couple months. The new Suunto Race looks super nice too and is offered at a more affordable price.
Hi Chad just one more thing before I pull the trigger on these. You said they were true to size but quite snug. Should I go half size up ( I’m a uk size 10) with winter coming on and maybe thicker socks? My other pumas deviate nitro 2 and forever run are a uk 10 and both fit perfect. Thanks Ian
Sizing is a tricky thing sometimes... if using thicker socks then sizing up half a size could be beneficial in this shoe, especially if you're borderline on the half size anyways. It is a snug fit but mostly in the mid foot (which I personally appreciate). I don't know if this is helpful but let me know how things turn out.
@@SeeChadRun thanks Chad. The company I’m buying them from has a free return policy so think sensible thing is to order both sizes and send back the one that doesn’t fit back. 👍
Is it much better than voyage nitro 2 for running? I just got the voyage nitro 2 because of their black color model but seeing your previous review I am just be using it for hikes and gym
Yes, this is something I mentioned in the video. I do feel that the voyage 3 is significantly better for trail running compared to the voyage 2. It has quite a few upgrades that make it much better and specifically that NITRO midsole. That's not to say that you can't do some trail running the voyage too, but I found it to be a little clunky compared to other more thought out trail shoes.
This would make a great road to trail shoe. I actually ran a few miles on the road early in this run and was surprised at how good the shoe felt. I attribute that largely to the midsole.
Hi Chad! Really cool review! I will be a new subscriber! What are your thoughts comparing the Voyage 3, with some big names like, Speedgoat 5, Ultra Glide 2, New Balance Fresh Foam More V3… for mainly long runs, not tempo and stuff. Thank you very much!
Thank you for subscribing and watching the video! I think Puma is a bit of an underdog when it comes to their running shoes (even though they've been making shoes for a long time). Their NITRO foam competes among the best of them and I was really happy to see a full slab of that midsole on the Voyage 3. I also believe that the overall build is higher quality than some of the other brands and I appreciate that they don't charge an arm and a leg.
The shoe would do just fine, but I can't say for sure what shoe will be the most comfortable and most preferable for you. I just ran a 50 mile race in the VJ MAXx2 trail shoe which was personally a great choice. I'm planning to run 100 mile race in the Topo MTN Racer 3, which is a newer shoe that I personally really like! I have reviews of both of these shoes on my channel as well. Cheers!
The outsole traction should farewell in mud, but in full disclosure, I haven't tested out on how well they do with water drainage. They reportedly have water drainage ports but I can't figure out where those are. Additionally, the shoe has a liner inside the shoe and I imagine that it would hold on to water. Personally, I wouldn't use these shoes if I knew they would be getting very wet or for water crossings. They do make a Gore-Tex version which might be good if running in light water or snow.
I'm not sure what the official 'softness gauge' of the Voyage 3 is, but I would say it's more soft than firm. I enjoyed the ride quite a bit! If you're looking for a shoe with a little more responsive and firmer midsole, you might want to check out the Craft Pure Trail. Here's my review video on that shoe: ua-cam.com/video/lzIDHnhPO9k/v-deo.html
How well do they ventilate your feet? My last Asics GT 2000 10, were very hot even when walking, although I live in a temperate climate and in the summer the temperature does not rise above 27C (80F)
If it were my feet and your temperatures in these shoes, I would feel totally comfortable. These shoes don't breathe the best because of the extra fabric or liner inside the shoe. In comparison, there are other shoes that definitely breathe better and a few shoes that breathe worse. I realize that this is a vaguely specific answer and probably isn't too helpful...
@darkstarproduction160 lately I've really been liking the Topo MTN Racer 3! Here's my review of that shoe: ua-cam.com/video/IYfpKbL9GV8/v-deo.htmlsi=icvWYP2QBCvbEHnX
Compared to all other shoes that I've worn these seem to run very true to size (for me, size 9.5). I could see perhaps sizing up if you prefer a little more room or if you'll be wearing them with thicker socks in the winter.
That hat is the Buff 5 Panel Go Cap in the Domus Navy colorway. I love that hat have three others in different colors! You may see me wearing some of the other colorways in my other trail running adventure and race videos.
Hi Chad. Brilliant video as always thanks. Amazing trail and weather ! Been waiting for you to post this video and it doesn’t disappoint. Recently I ran a trail half in the New Forest here in Hampshire uk in my Deviate nitro 2 and they were brilliant. I think this shoe is a must have and they are available here in the uk for less than £100 which is outstanding and they’ll be arriving at my door very soon! Thanks Chad. Ian 🇬🇧
I wondered the same but presume that the lugs are big enough that this won't be an issue. I guess we'll find out in the long term but so far it hasn't been an issue.

I wish there was a review of these shoes in this color way without someone running in a bunch of dirt abusing the shoe.
