Fun fact: SHINee is the very first Kpop group to record their dance practices.
Not the very first, just the first to make it really popular.

First, thank you so much for doing this. SHINee deserve so much more recognition for ALL the many contributions they made to make Kpop what it is today. So thank you for acknowledging that. Several things to know about SHINee that weren't brought up in the reaction.
1) SHINee debuted as an experimental group that wasn't supposed to last. This year they will celebrate their 15th anniversary with Taemin in May. They were initially supposed to be centered in Hip-Hop, but once Lee Soo Man realized they could actually really sing, it was supposed to switch to be primarily R&B. However, it soon became apparent that SHINee could sing ANYTHING that was thrown at them, therefore, they were finally billed as a contemporary group.
2) SHINee was the first group to actually sing live since their debut, and they still sing 90%-95% live during performances. Their live vocals/harmonies are so good, they became known as CDNees -- essentially indicating their live vocals were just as good and most often much better than their recorded vocals.
3) SHINee was the first group to integrate live singing with more complex, synchronized dancing with LOTS of footwork and leg work. It is still that way today. They trained for this by running together while singing. Concentrate on the difference between SHINee and today's choreo for other groups. There are a lot of BIG arm, torso, and hip movements, however SHINee are masters of foot/leg work and use it as their driving power.
4) SHINee introduced two new music genres to Kpop: Dubstep with "Everybody" and Deep/Tropical House with "View".
5) The reason some NCT stuff may sound like SHINee or have similar moves in their choreo is that SHINee were the mentors for both EXO and NCT. They are brother groups and extremely close. Kai is Taemin's best friend since trainee days and Kai has said that Taemin mentored him quite a bit when he first arrived. Kai's first impression of Taemin was that he was Usher.
6) Taemin is a self-taught dancer. He was a "street" dancer who was already proficient at tutting, and his forte was popping/locking and isolations. This was integrated into SHINee's choreos. He started teaching himself at 9/10 by copying the moves of his favorite artists in front of his mirror. At 11/12 he attended an open Saturday audition for SM. He was immediately snatched up and became one of only six to pass through that audition of thousands of applicants each season. When asked, years later, why Taemin didn't stand out more in SHINee for his dancing, Taemin said that as a part of the group he was to blend in seamlessly not stand out. His solo career was his opportunity to stand out. This is his philosophy, and he sticks with it even when having a collaboration with other artists. He always matches their movements.
7) Taemin could not sing at debut due to immature vocal cords. SM was afraid if he started training his voice too soon it would ruin his vocal cords and future potential. When it came time for him to sing, he couldn't due to lack of training. He started with a trainer, but that trainer gave up on him and said he should stick to dancing as he would never be good enough to be a singer. Taemin doesn't do the word CAN'T. It lit a fire in him. Jonghyun & Onew started tutoring him. He also practiced on his own day and night, got daily nosebleeds, and even passed out once during regular practice due to lack of sleep. However, by 2010, he was getting more lines. By 2012 he had made tremendous progress to the point that he was able to cover Jonghyun's part in "Why So Serious" due to JH's car accident. In 2014, Taemin became the first-ever SM soloist from an active boy group, effectively shaming that previous vocal coach.
8) Taemin was the driving force in upping the choreo difficulties with each comeback...to the rest of the group's comedic chagrin. He is also the one who moves around the most during choreos due to the fact that he is much faster with transitions.
9) Jonghyun wrote a significant amount of SHINee's songs. 2009's "Juliette" was the very first song written by JH. It was an instant hit. From then on SHINee was given more creative license than was normal at that time.
10) Minho wrote all his own rap segments and actually has more credits than JH. Early on the other members began dabbling in songwriting and have credits to their names.
11) Key began dabbling in SHINee's fashion design. In 2015, with "View", he was giving the formal designation as an SM Fashion Director. He usually designs the costumes for SHINee's concerts and his own MVs.
12) By 2015, SHINee had almost autonomy with regard to their music. They were making most of the final decisions over their work.
13) The "Story of Light", 3-pt. album of 2018 is a very beautiful, yet bittersweet, album. Although is was planned and was in working progress prior to 2018, once the tragedy happened, the guys reworked it into a magnificent tribute to Jonghyun and his legacy. The three title songs, "Good Evening", "I Want You", and "Our Page" take us through their journey of profound grief to acceptance, and finally healing. They included one of the songs recorded with JH, "Lock You Down". All the visuals within the MVs detail Jonghyun's presence through his favorite book, "The Little Prince". The repackaged album featured "Countless", a song detailing the "countless" reasons why JH will never be forgotten.
Today, SHINee still honors Jonghyun. They often talk about him and will leave spaces open in their choreo for his presence. As Onew stated in their 2018 fan meeting event at the Tokyo Dome, "SHINee will always be 5 = 5HINee! We are a family. Thank you for honoring their legacy.

I cried again reading this! This is so true, we sometimes forget everything that this 5 boys went thru to become who they are today. They paved the way for the kpop industry and shown us what hard work can achieve. JH will always be part of Shinee, they always leave a space open for him🩵

Shinee is my favorite group. I love their choreography, their songs and harmonies. Each member has their own distinctive sound.
My personal favorite of all of them is Taemin. I love his singing, songs and choreography. I love that he wears and says what he wants.
I'm glad he's back and can't wait to hear and see what is next.

I'm crying sm. Can't believe that I also been there, watching them grow up with twitter help and always waiting their mv release. We Shawol used to share the MV link so others can watch and help to get the view higher since kpop was not that popular like now. Even we rewatch it in many devices at the same time 😂.
There was no online concert so fans trying to share their audio by mixlr. So the fans that can't join the concert can listen to it while scrolling twitter to know the updates from the fans in the dorm.
I really love SHINee World that feels like second family for me. Some Shawol even can buy more than 200 pcs of albums then share it to other Shawol.

To be honest, as much as I enjoy SHINee's title tracks, most of my favorite SHINee songs are B-sides. You will not regret diving into their discography and that includes their Japanese songs too. Also, they are known as the Princes of KPop and Kings of Live performances. And the reason for that is that they are even better live. They are true artists. Thank you so much for this lovely reaction.
P.S. It's nice to see a Shawol among you. I teared up a bit too. JH will always be missed.

@@Lucy-li8pe so many! Kimi Ga Iru Sekai, 1000 Years Always By Your Side, Days and Years, An Encore, Married to the Music, Prism, Code to name a few. The last Korean album alone are full of amazing songs.
I know right. I love shinee bsides the most really, I can't tell you how many times I've listened to odd eye.
It's okay to cry. I still cry, because I love and miss him so much, and I always will. He said to cry when you need to...so cry. I'm so proud of how they came back for for The Story of Light. They did it on their terms, refusing to give in to the media and anti sharks who wanted nothing more than tragedy p*rn. ETA: TSOL is such a comfort for me. Jjong may not be singing on TSOL, but the whole thing is a love letter to him, and every time I listen to it I feel he can sense how much we love him, too.
Fun fact: Ian Eastwood, View's choreographer, is also Taemin's choreographer for Danger! He was shocked that they kept asking for harder choreography for View! Key chose street fashion for View, gling completely against the trend of the time.
Sugowara Koharu is the choreographer for Good Evening as well as Sayonara Hitori, Move, and Want.

Idk if anyone already wrote it but "Good Evening" is (as far as I know) the only ever choreo with artists avoiding cameras in music shows, you won't see them looking directly at camera once. I find it amazing and so powerful...
to be the main dancer in a group like SHINee tells you a lot about how good Taemin is. Yes he is talented/gifted tell it what you want, but we can never dismiss his hard work and dedication. He would stay in the practice room and practice until his nose bleed. He basically lives in the practice room and that has never changed a bit. He's still as dedicated and hardworking as he was in his Trainee and Rookie years. He came out of the military and first thing he did the very next day was to head straight to the practice room where he also did an Instagram live on his first day back as an idol. You can see and feel that he loves his job (as he said himself too). What he loves even more are his fans "jjakkoongs" (he calls us that which means "partners". He named his cat Kkoong after us).

Not gonna lie, I had to pause and stop watching the video several times. SHINee is my ultimate group. They got me into KPOP back in late 2010. Their early songs are iconic, my favorites, especially their bsides (Jojo for sure a fave). Their essence and sound is in every song they perform. Seeing so many artists/producers take inspiration from trendsetters SHINee has been a journey. It has been awe instilling witnessing this through the years. Losing Jonghyun, SHINee's center, the mood maker, the main vocalist, was truly tragic. It changed SHINee as a group. So much has changed, yet their essence is there. I hope the boys keep on celebrating Jonghyun just as us Shawols will continue to do. May he rest in peace and I hope he is watching over us from above. I can't wait to see you guys listen to their bsides. You're in for a ride ^-^

From the time of their comeback after Jonghyuns passing the boys incorporated things into their music and mv's from them on to represent jonghyun. It stared with the red fox in this mv for good evening. And in every mv and album since with choreography
TBH, for me SHINee's live performances can really change your opinion on a song...like I went from liking Hello and wy so serious to jamming to it on the regular after concert performaces.
It's currently Jonghyun's birthday anniversary in korea time, and what a way to witness you guys appreciating his vocal talent.

Foetus Taemin didn’t get any lines at the beginning because his voice was changing, and at school, he was told by a teacher that he’ll never become a singer. And now he’s one of the biggest soloists in K-Pop. And just in case you didn’t know, the girl in the Replay video is pre-debut Victoria, the leader of SM girl group f(X).

This group has been with me through my entire teen life. It’s been 14 years since I first started listening to them and I can confidently say that I will never love a group as much as I adore this group.
I think I haven't bench watched their singles mv's like this before and it was so emotionally draining. When I saw Jonghyun in 1of1 I started to cry. He has the same haircut as in the photo they used in his funeral😭
I can not miss him more. When you started crying I was sobing. His musical career is one of the greatest of all kpop.
He left us a beautiful last album and it can not be so bittersweet. I still can't hear that album without crying.

Fun fact. The piano playing on don't call me is taemin but you can only see it on one of the lives for that song. In Atlantis the 2nd Taemin represents Jonghyun plus the eyes of the marine life move. No one seems to notice that. And finally the extending of the army them in the choreo is for jonghyun too.

Fun Fact: In Dream Girl one of the floor mirrors got broken by one of the members so it can be seen during some seens and also a member breaks one of th mic stands on accident at one point during the mv too

Our page is the song they wrote and dedicated to jonghyun this song is all about him and then as a group from debut right up to present. The last song to hold Jonghyuns vocals is the song from now on. If you watch the live version of that it is quoted painful and the boys break down at the end.
Both this song and that one are the most principled songs.
The last song to actually have Jjong's vocals is "Lock you down" in the trilogy.

Yes! I think SHINee World IV is the gold standard in SHINee concerts and I always recommend starting with that one. There’s the iconic “Excuse Me Miss” and “Stranger” performances!
1:12:15 I’ve noticed something I barely see anyone do it like that: normally when groups dance, one part is in focus while the others are rearranging themselves in the background but they don’t move like dancing while doing it. But SHINee never stops, even when a few members are not in the focus or need to find their new position’s, they never stop dancing in an aesthetic way. They’re amazing

Thank you for reacting to our SHINee boys!! They have one of the best discographies both in Korean and Japanese, along with each member's own solo work. Having been in the industry for 15 years, SHINee has always been a trendsetter in their musical experimentation, styling and performance. They are often regarded as the princes of kpop. Their live performances are legendary and their b-sides are impeccable. I can't wait to see more of your SHINee journey!!

mannn, replay just gets better everytime i hear it, also hearing good evening after a while and i felt like i was brought back to everything, from the news to actually watching the mv, just sitting there and breaking down not even midway and just sobbed all the way till the end of the video, hard times but seeing the rest of the members being strong gave me that comfort to be strong too and try to cope with what already happened and still move forward. Jonghyun, you're forever loved and will forever live through your music.
SHINee wasn't the first to start filming or releasing dance practices (Shinhwa, TVXQ, Boa, maybe others I don't know about). Their dance practice for Lucifer, however, was the one that made Korea realize kpop idols can actually dance

So admiring that SHINee and all the members put their all in everything they participate in. All their tittle and b-side are good, both Korean and Japanese album, as a group and solo. So proud to be their fan from the very beginning until now 🖤
This was a machine ride and pretty nostalgic too. I've been a shawol since 2012 and I had fun reminiscing about all those beautiful moments I spent with them. I can't thank you enough for these 2 hours and I hope you can react to their Korean/Japanese b-sides and live vocals, there isn't anyone like SHINee, I swear you won't regret it.

Thank all three of y'all for this!! It was great to experience your sharing this with us. Shinee is incredible, historic. SHINee has had some ICONIC PERFORMANCES of songs not on MV. For me, I name two of my favorites: "EVIL' live performance from 'Shinee World III in Seoul" --- and "Excuse Me Miss" from 'Shinee World IV.'

Shinee (and their "sister group" F(x)) are my first two kpop groups so it makes me so happy and proud to have you guys reacting to Shinee! They are so talented and cool. There's definitely no other like them.

Fun fact about view . Taemin once wore a pair of jeans with the words OPEN HERE on the zipper in full view of the cameras during a live show and never knew Bout it till later on

I really like to see all of you reactin Shinee World Concert 4 or all the titles live version. I think Shinee's the most shinin when they singing live. One time they said ' we never learned lip syncing cause it is more uncomfortable than live. we want to our fans know that Shinee always do their best'

Taemin was 14. Key + Minho were 16 Jonghyun had just turned 18 and onew was 18. At the time of their debut. Check out their entire discography and solo work. Their live concert performances which are even better than their recorded vocals. Shinee and all memebe rd always song LIVE ( They never lipsync because it's the one thing they can't do) Jonghyun had the most song credits as he was the songwriter for them with his collab grouo wefreaky and kenzie. Minho has the most rap credits as he wrote all the tap pieces for the songs. Jonghyuns first song for them was Juliet. Their song ring ding dong is the only shinee song that is banned in both Korea and Japan because of how catchy it is but only during school exams time in both countries. Taemin was the first to debut as a solo artist, then Jonghyun, then Onew and key. Minho finally had his solo debut this year with his album chase.
Fun facts.
Onew: can turn his voice to any song even opera , check out his version of messing dorma. He also had vocal surgery to save his voice so when you see his song the live version of rainy blue this is the reason he cried because there was a chance that he would never song again. Fortunately that was not the case.
(The late) Jonghyun. Dropped o out of school in 10th grade. Played piano guitar and kazoo. Spotted and signed with sm entertainment at 15 when he was seen playing bass guitar with his school band. He had 9 tattoos his most prominent being the black dog. The sign for depression which he suffered from all his life and which would eventually cause him to commit suicide Dec 2017. He is and always will be a part of shinee and is always spoken of in the here and now.
Key: an entertainment fashion director. Does all costuming for their mv's and concert performances. Is a dance copy machine because there is no dance he doesn't know and can learn in seconds. Loves to cook took over the role of being Mom for the members especially Taemin. ( Jonghyun was Taemins first Mom) and key just passed his exam for western cooking.
Minho : visual of the group. Writes most of the tap sections for him And key though key does write his own as well. And is a k drama actor.
Taemin: plays piano since age 11, he also signed with sm entertainment that age. Is Catholic and a fan of Michael Jackson. Is a self taught dancer though he sought professional lessons later on and he was taught to sing by his members leader Onew and the late Jonghyun before seeking professional lessons later on. He is also afraid of all insects and bugs.

I really enjoyed this video! SHINee brings dept of flavor to Kpop and it's incredible witnessing how they continue to flourish over time. I have such an appreciation for their jack swing, funk, and house-infused eras. I can't wait to see what they'll deliver this year for their comeback! Would love to see ya'll check out their live performance because that is where it's at!

Thank you so much for the reaction!! I enjoyed the 2+ hrs. This year is my 10th year as a shawol, it was fun watch all SHINee's videos again and see that more people can appreciate their music evolution. I strongly agree with firsts videos being iconic, but from 2013 until now is my style of music. I recommend the b-sides, there's a looot of differents styles in each album. Have fun with those!! 😄 And this year finally SHINee IS BACK!!!!💎💎💎💎💎
