If you are trying to reduce the amount of chemicals in your home, your laundry room is a great place to start. Eliminate unnecessary toxins with homemade laundry detergents (find simple recipes here: www.motherearth...) and naturally soften clothes with homemade wool dryer balls. These natural fabric softeners are simple to create-all you need is some wool yarn and a pair of pantyhose. While conventional fabric softener sheets can contain some really nasty chemicals, these dryer balls are 100 percent wool and they last for years. Use these homemade wool dryer balls to help clothes dry faster and reduce static. They even make a lovely, practical gift-wrap up a few wool dryer balls and package them with a bottle of your favorite essential oil for a heartfelt, handmade gift.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notes that conventional cleaning products make a significant contribution to indoor air pollution. Clean your house from top to bottom with just seven simple ingredients: baking soda, distilled white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, salt, vegetable oil soap, washing soda and lemons. To save time and money, buy the ingredients in bulk and make your cleaners in advance.

Very much enjoyed your video, I am planning to make some wool dryer balls. Will adding the essential oil drops to the dryer ball, leave marks on clothes in the dryer ?

Hi Pat. To answer your question, generally speaking, no, they will not. I have been doing this for a couple years. I do use a high quality brand and they soak into the ball quickly, so there's not a "wet spot" that can transfer to my clothing. Not all brands are created equal and so some have fatty oils or other ingredients in them (which aren't always listed on the labels), and these ingredients are what can cause trouble (like getting a drop of vegetable oil on a shirt). That's the only footnote. Enjoy!

Do you have to use wool? Can you use an alternative yarn like cotton?

Cotton does not wet felt. For the purpose of a dryer ball, animal fibers like wool, mohair, alpaca (or any othrr type of animal fiber) can be used.
