      For safety: maybe consider wearing a leather apron while welding. Colon cancer has a higher occurence with welders because their abdomen gets exposed more to penetrating uv waves from the welding head. #safetyfirst

    As a Finn its really weird seeing a sauna without a drain, usually we have em is to ease the cleaning of the sauna and since you throw water on the rocks usually as well so if the sauna stove(kiuas) isnt hot enough it does not leave pool on the floor. Great vid tho as always :)

    • @juustero
      @juustero 4 роки тому +11

      @@ModernSelfReliance The stove will be very hot so it will do damage on the floortiles. I suggest to get some sort of heatshield under the stove. Also the drain is important because not all the water isnt going to go to the kiuas.

    • @juustero
      @juustero 4 роки тому +10

      I suggest you put a tank on the chimney or on the side of the sauna. Thats how you get yourself boiling hot water to mix with cold to have a shower. The wood on the wall and the door are going to rot pretty soon unless you put a drain.

    Ingenious dude! You're the great white north's answer to Michael Angelo! Too Much? You are always inventive. Anyone can through money at a project, but real pioneers created their own solutions with whatever resources they had access to at the time. I also like the fact that you say to yourself “I don’t know when or where I’m going to use this material, but I’m sure one day it will be of use so I’ll take it”. If that’s not forward thinking, I don’t know what is.

    Great work Kevin, keep it coming. In our saunas, the high humidity 100%RH at 90 C and lots of splashing with with water while bathing is not a big problem since we build them differently. Instead of making the countryside saunas watertight, we make them with air gaps and a water drain or two on the floor so that water will always escape. It is critical that after bathing, the sauna is well ventilated, else it will rotten very fast. It is a common practice to light up a small fire in the oven to dry it afterwards. Enjoy!

    You can use that wood heater to dry your wood correctly. Sticker and layer your green lumber in your sauna. Leave an open path to feed your firebox. Open your door every day or two to let out the steam and voila! You now have drier wood. Of course you’ll never get it to less than 10-15% moisture content, but you’re not building furniture with the wood and it will fluctuate since you’ll be adding steam to the sauna. But you’ll be working with semi stabilized lumber. Love your channel!

    Welding tips.. cleanliness is godliness. (You already covered that). Get comfortable. Rest your hands on something to steady them. When grinding, try to hold the disc as parallel to the material so you dont dig the metal at the very end of grinding every thing off. Pretty cool video. I love the stove. Worked out cool... hopefully it doesn't catch California on fire again!!!

    You need a flap disc sanding wheel for grinding. Much better than an abrasive wheel! Awesome video though. Love the content💯

    Greeting from Finland! I am like most Finns I own 5 saunas. My question is why tiles on the floor in an outdoor sauna and why no drain. The sauna floor is so much better if you just make it out of wood. This said, good job with the 1 dollar sauna stove. :-)
