What is it like to be a volunteer firefighter?

This video was made for Fire Prevention Week 2022. Each year during station tours, many of the kids always ask what we actually do as our job on the fire department. This year I took clips from many of our previous videos and made this video to show to the older groups of kids that visit the fire station what we actually do as our job on our local volunteer fire dept.

This shows everything so well, im lucky enough that my town is on the bigger volunteer station, we have around 10 trucks and around 7 or 8 people a call no matter the time of day

That’s awesome. We are a fairly small town overall, but have a total of 14 firefighters now. Our average turnout is about 7-8 people that show up too which is really great for our size!

@@MattHildebrand12 im in a town of just over 5000 people and we have like 12 people, not alot of people are joining anymore so we are short staffed sadly

These videos I’ve made of our dept. started from the idea of showing people in our town (about 1000 people) what we do so they might be interested in joining as well, and so far we’ve got 2-3 new guys since then

@@MattHildebrand12 yea i might try to do that, im trying to convince the chief to get us helmet cams so i could try to make a video, about one or two months ago we had a huge field fire and it would have been sick to make a video out of it. you earned a new sub

Hey what were the basic requirements to become a volunteer here if they had any, I heard some require CPR certification before you try to volunteer, others take anybody who asks

On our department, CPR and Firefighter 1 are preferred, but what is required here is an approved application, passed background check, NIMS certification, and to be voted on by all current firefighters.

This was just a remake for the sake of the video, not footage of us actually responding to a call. I asked a couple of the guys to come up to the station, throw their gear on and act like they were responding to a fire so I could film it. The video was made to show school kids during fire prevention week what our job is like. Most of us do not wear our helmets while responding.
