    After several failed attempts from other videos and instructions, this worked! I was able to pair my brand new Smart 2021 Chamberlain B970 garage door opener to my 2018 Subaru Legacy. I was missing the step where I had to clear out my Homelink from my previous garage door opener. I didn't even have to use the learn button. Thank you! Now if I could only rekey my Kwikset "SmartKey" locks.

    Trent, great video. How do you prevent other remotes and keypad from getting wiped out after this procedure?

    • @TrentTheCarGuy
      @TrentTheCarGuy 6 років тому

      Gudrun Neumann if you already have things programmed to the Homelink system in your vehicle you can skip the step where you hold the first and last button to clear the memory. You can just hold down the single button you want to program to the garage door without affecting the other program buttons. this process should not interfere with any other programs devices. I hope this addresses your question properly. Thank you!

    • @TrentTheCarGuy
      @TrentTheCarGuy 6 років тому

      Gudrun Neumann when you press the learn button on your garage motor it should be a short press. If you happen to hold it for a few seconds this will typically delete any devices that are synced up to it. you have to add each device back on according to the instructions for that device. Your keypad should have an owner's manual that came with it and if not you can pull up the instruction through the manufacturer of your keypad. I know it may be a little bit of a pain but it can all be reprogrammed just like the mirror but they instructions for each programmable item maybe slightly different.

    after I have installed this /programmed to my 2017 Subaru, do I need to leave the actual garage door opener in my car or can I take it out of the car? thx, Donna and it works, thank you it was very easy and I am not computer savvy

    • @TrentTheCarGuy
      @TrentTheCarGuy 6 років тому

      Donna Knight-Staton You can leave your remote in the house. the main purpose of the Homelink system is for you to conveniently be able to open your garage door without having the remote in your car. It's also safer because somebody could break into a car and take a garage door remote but the Homelink system is not active unless the car is on. Let me know if you have any other questions!

      There are a lot of variables that can cause you to have this issue. I was going to post about them all but if you want to quickly troubleshoot these items and just get it handled quickly, I suggest a call to Homelink directly where they will troubleshoot the issue. Please let me know what the problem ended up being. If you struggle with finding the cure with them, I would gladly do a live video chat with you to help. You can reach Homelink at 1-800-355-3515.

    I have HomeLink for my 2013 BRZ, using the identical Chamberlain opener you have in the video.. doesn't work. I did the reset, held both desired HomeLink button and opener button at the same time, waited 30 seconds and nothing. Light doesn't speed flash for me. Tried using the learn button on my motor and it just doesn't want to read. Spent almost 10 hours trying to do this, and got a solid arm workout from constantly holding buttons down. Any ideas?

      @@TrentTheCarGuy Thanks, I felt like there was an issue of connectivity so I held down 3 different chamberlain openers (all linked to the motor) at the same time while holding the HomeLink button, and that seemed to get me the rapid flashing. Now I went to press the learn button and immediately went to the car, pressed the chosen button, and it does rapid blink. Is that fine? Door doesn't move but I think I'm supposed to press it a bunch of times. Any ideas?

      @@Scirollo if it is programming correctly you probably have to hold down the button at the very end that you want to program for a second or two let go and then hold it down for a second or two and it should open the garage if it doesn't just try a third time and it should work. If it doesn't then you may have an issue with one of the homelink systems.

    • @TrentTheCarGuy
      @TrentTheCarGuy 6 років тому

      T Johnson Congrats on the Ascent! My Feb Ascent order arrived in last week of June. Get ready on my channel for some amazing videos I shot yesterday in the desert! I am guessing you have a Touring model if the mirror seems even more high tech. I will be putting a specific video up this month on programming that one but if you do not have a remote, I am not aware of any way to program Homelink without. You need to purchase a universal remote (unless you can borrow one from someone and just help them reprogram after you use it) and then follow the normal Homelink steps. If you have the Touring Ascent, just press one of the 3 buttons to program and it will tell you step by step what to do to program. All the Homelink programming requires a remote. Let me know how it goes or if you need helping finding one to purchase. Thanks!!!
