- Mary Vesta Williams (December 1, 1957 - September 22, 2011) was an American singer-songwriter, who performed across genres such as pop, jazz, adult contemporary and R&B. Originally credited as Vesta Williams, she was simply known as Vesta beginning in the 1990s. Vesta was known for her four-octave vocal range. She once sang The Star Spangled Banner for the Los Angeles Lakers game opener using all four of those octaves. Although Williams never had any albums certified gold nor any Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, she scored six Top 10 hits on the United States Billboard R&B chart from the mid-1980s to the early-1990s which included "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" (1986), "Sweet Sweet Love" (1988), "Special" (1993), and her 1989 R&B hit and signature song, "Congratulations".

Vesta never got the credit and recognization that she needed
Vesta and Phyllis were one of a kind talent. So sad and messed up they were screwed over and didn't get the flowers due to them. It's mighty strange they both "overdosed" Resurrect in Power Goddesses ♥️🖤💚
Fact check. No overdose for Vesta. She had an enlarged heart.
Heavenly voices they both had 💔
This used to be my song, I was in love with a Latin man and I always thought that I was not the one for him that he would want a Latin woman 15 years ago he passed we were married for 30 years❤
YES VESTA. YOU BETTER SANG MAMA. I'M CRYING RIGHT NOW. SOMEONE ELSE JUST HIT IT ON THE NOSE: VESTA & PHYLLIS HYMAN. MAN WHAT CAN I SAY BUT🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯💯💯

Love Vesta Williams! Her passing was a true shock to me. What a beautiful woman inside and out.
Ms. Thang was genuinely and truly an all in one talent. She sang you to the floor and made you feel her heart and soul through song and then uplifted you back up off that floor with joy and a wicked sense of humor.... You’re sorely missed Ms. V
She sang from the HEART! I wonder if Whitney Houston sang this song.

Vesta Knew She Could Sang Her Face Off 🙌🏽❤️🙌🏽 Miss You Queen 👑🙏🏽❤️
AMEN!❤️🎤
I miss her...I really do. Saw her live once, at a "Taste of DC" Festival in Wash/DC in the early 2000s..I think it was 2001. She was on an all day bill, with other performers. And I was there, pretty much, the whole day, because I was bartending near the stages. There was Grace Jones, the late, legendary Celia Cruz, Al Green, Joan Jett, WAR, Junior Vasquez, Kevin Aviance, a couple of other acts..and Vesta. She was heavy then, runing around the stage in 6 inch, red stilettos..and it was hot as Hades..but you wouldnt have known if she was tired, hot or whatever...because she performed 4 songs and had the crowd of mostly gay men, in the palm of her hand. She and Grace, were the showstoppers.
My God her voice was amazing..
So much feeling, she was incredible brings tears to my eyes, I hear Chaka Khan Etta James some Luther Vandross and, of course, herself
Oh, my gosh. She is so pretty. She sounds like Aretha Franklin. She can sing her behind off. I agree the song made me cry. RIP, Vesta!!! ❤💔🙏
SHE SING. THAT SONG.
Hell yes!! Its about time some new Vest clips were uploaded onto UA-cam, thank you!

This sister knew she could sang. I wish that there were more singers like this, in the lime light ,today. When I produce my first album, I promise to bring some of this old school feel back. I mean, you can feel every nuance and emotion in her singing. The ability to evoke emotion is what I inspire to do.

OMG!! That rendition of that was off the chain !! She's working with so much power and passion. Physical attractiveness is on her side equally as well. 👄 🎵 🔥! She's fire 5x's over!!!
I was so shocked years ago when I heard about her passing. As Mr. Chalfont mentions above in the credits, her full name was Mary Vesta Williams. We went to school together (Coshocton, Ohio) when she was just known as 'Mary'. In high school (early 70s) we put together a group called "Sweet Justice" consisting of Mary, Patti Stevens, and David Martin (vocals), myself (guitar), Joe Hardesty (elec. bass), and my brother, Duane (drums). Mary always wanted to be known as "Vesta" Williams, having been named after her grandmother. Does anyone out there remember?!!
Mary Vesta hanging out at the Melody Club..putting nickles in the jukebox eating Captain Crunch ice cream bars..
@@RXmusic4YOU Hello, RX! Do we know each other? Are you from Coshocton? I was glad and surprised to see your comment today...thank you!
@@frednormanguitarist6603 To answer your questions: No and No.... but I knew all the singers in the band. :)
@@RXmusic4YOU Thank you for writing again! I wonder how the other singers are getting along...it's been a long time. I graduated in 1974 (I believe Patti was in my class)!
Wish someone could find the clip where she does absolutely perfect impressions of several of her contemporary female singers. She does them without a trace of malice, and is actually quite hilarious. She was also quite the comedian. This video only hints at it.
7:33 this is golden right here. I was just watching the sitcom “Sister, Sister” and Vesta makes a couple appearances as a close girl friend of Jackeé Harry’s character!
When I worked for WDKX radio , she showed up as one of our Special Guests and performed- Amazing Talent
Omg Vesta sing baby
Welll Miss Vesta as always a show stopper!!! RIH an unforgetable talent!!!

She was so funny and had a voice to be reckoned with!!
Thankfully they did her episode of Unsung when they did. She passed soon after. RIP Beautiful Diva...Love you
Happy Heavenly Birthday Songbird 🕊 ♥️
Man…these were the days 😢😮……love you Vesta’ Forever 💜🙌🏾
Me and a friend would hear this song when it first came out and we would cry our eyes out. Sounds kinda silly but that's what the magic of a Beautiful song can do to people. It still has that affect on me 33 years later. It's just awesome to pump this song loud on a good system or loud on some good headphones to get the whole effect. If you don't feel it, you either have no soul or a cheap system!!! LMFAO 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Just look @ that beautiful hair / crown on her head... She's the best R.I.P. VESTA
God, must be having a heckava concert daily, with Voices like Vesta, James Ingram and so many other voices taken from us way to early. ,,,, RIP Vesta, what a touching song, ,,, sing it in heaven,,,,,
