Great review Mike! I hate transposing on the fly & wish I'd had this years ago! When you are playing the same song with different bands in different keys that can cause chaos but his little fella would help solve that. Keep up the good work
Great video! Do you think this would work well for taking a bass tuned B-E-A-D down a step to A standard? It seems to struggle more with lower tunings when it's taking a standard tuned bass all the way down but maybe would work well for taking an already lower tuned bass down just a little more?
Sadly, I think the tracking will struggle to produce usable bass-tones if you're already starting from a low B. If you're using a 35-37 inch scale length, you may just about get away with it... but I suspect it might still be a job too far. Cheers for the comment!
my guitars are tuned in D standard and drop C, can i use it to make my tuning go up to E standard? i dont want to tune my guitars to E standard and use that to drop my tuning..thank you
Sadly, this pedal only goes down, not up. To do that you'd need to look at the Digitech Whammy unit and products from other manufacturers. Cheers for the comment!
Thanks. Now I understand it now as well as what it's capable are and not and it's shortcomings. My band leader has one on his pedal board spread and plays lead six string. He initially had it on my bass station setup but I usually always play in drop D tuning on my four string bass for the songs we play and with his singing voice everything fits in the mix.
Do you think it would work for 1/2 and 1 step? There's some songs on Eb (which I'll use a E standard) and drop C (for what I have a drop D tuned bass). I already have multiple basses and getting more just for a few songs isn't on my mind, at least now.
Absolutely! exactly what I use it for a lot of the time! Although, with low C, the tracking as the frequencies get lower may get a bit wishy-washy. Try one in a store and see what you think. All the best!
Upto 4 semitones it does a decent job, but there is a tradeoff in the sense that with lower drop tunings one doesnt feel very natural while trying to play fast/shred....as the semi tones go lower you can enjoy tracking stuff with slow to mid tempo.....now there are iffs and buts to getting the best out of the digitech drop and that is simply.....your guitar..... For Eg - ive tried with an SG guitar....like i mentioned hoing from a standard E Or drop D tuning upto 4 semitones down sounded good (when in bridge pickup position......when tried with combo or neck position, the sound gets fuzzy and not pleasant).....then tried with a strat.....didnt like it as much....then tried with a tele ...now my tele has a slightly high action and hence on any standard tuning sounded bright, twangy and nice.....this also reflected on the drop when downtuned upto 4 semitones...... Thats my experience with this......also if you just want to have a makeshift bass you can go to the oct setting...... I love playing from time to time on my SG with that.....the resulting tone is most definitely NOT for modern metal but late 80s to mid 90s bass....think Chris from Nirvana to some of the songs featured on the earlier 90,s roadrash......its a fun jam but might not give you that professional tool effectivity
Very interesting...I've looked into this as one of the tunes I play regularly live with one of my bands requires me to take out another bass completely tuned a semitone down. I tried programming a patch into my HX Effects using the pitch algorithm, but it sounds pretty artificial to my ears. TBH, with your Kubicki and the semitone down setting I really couldn't hear a difference tonally between standard pitch. Impressed! 👍
Cheers Mark, on some Queen tributes, I use it set to one or two semitones down, depending on the vocalist's requirements and the pedal stays on all night and it sounds fine in a band mix. All the best!
On my Warwick Streamer ProM unfortanelly the tracking is awful, even 1 semiton, when i play the E string it keeps "searching" the note. I solve this problem putting my Boss Bass Limiter before the digitech, and compressing very Hard, but, by doing That, the sound change so much compared to the standard tunning. At the moment i dont have other basses to test, but i think the Warwick sound is too strong for the drop
That's a shame. I've run Alembics, Statii, Music Man, Spector, Lakland, Kubicki, GB Guitars and multiple other makes of bass through it without any issues. Sorry to hear that it doesn't work for you. All the best!
@@BrooksysBassCorner I tried the Boss Me90b... the tune down function is not bad... but it is a little too wavy for higher notes... It could work in a live situation (maybe) but I think the Digitech drop is a more solid option.. maybe a one trick pony but a good trick, so I may try to get one of those.
Excellent! Always trust your ears, it's harder these days with fewer retail stores about to directly compare gear but if testing a piece of gear doesn't deliver the desired outcome, keep on looking. I hope the Digitech Drop does what you need it to do. By all means check out the retail affiliate links in the Description Box, any purchase helps the channel. All the best!
No it doesn’t solve the problem. The drop tuning is horrible and has latency issues the further down you go. When you’re half step down you barely can notice but I’m a punk bassist and I play fast and it has an annoying delay input. I bought it but gave it back a week after. The best is to have two different basses on your gig
Ahhhh, very cool to hear this in action. Definitely worth it to have one in the pedal arsenal. 🎉
Totally agree! I'd be a bit lost now without it! Thanks for the comment!

Great response.... thank you!
How does it compare to the new HX One?
Haven't had access to an HX One to compare it, sadly.
Very useful, I want to play some Ghost and Arch Enemy stuff, and this will save me to buy extra basses just for that.
Glad I could help and you found it useful. Rock on!

Wow! That's crazy...I've used super high output basses with it and not had that problem at all. Have you tried replacing the pedal?
@@BrooksysBassCorner Yes, the guitar player of my band has one as well, same result

Had one for a while my self along with the Drop Whammy. It's different.
Cool, the Whammy seemed a bit like overkill for what I need the Drop to do but horses for courses! All the best!
I have standard tuning and I need to play in D standard… as I understood it should not be a problem with this pedal.
You can do that, I'm doing it tonight!
@@BrooksysBassCorner I am also going the check the boss me 90b. It has a tune down function… just to try it.
Cool, report back with your findings! Cheers!

Thanks for the comment. Shame it didn't work for you, as it works for me.
8 semitones are not an octave.
My mistake, I should have said 7 semitones, THEN it drops to the octave down, then the Octave + Dry Signal. Cheers for the heads up!
@@BrooksysBassCorner 12 semitones is an octave, wonder why they only put 8 on it.
