I only ever feel as if I understand about 20-30% of a Chilla's Art game, but the thing is he has such a flair for style. His grasp of a very specific visual and audio aesthetic, setting a mood and ambience is fantastic. And letting it become steadily more eerie and uncomfortable as time goes on. In a way, having no idea what's going on actually plays into that. Then, too, there is the traditional Chilla's weird humour and bizarro jank that also gives it its own special charm.
Too bad aesthetic doesn't make a good horror game if there's a lack of good tension or characters Many of their games feel like that high school student that thinks they're good at art, and others realize the artist is severely lacking in perspective on what makes a good horror game.
I love it when he does Chilla’s art games, they can be very different from the usual games and most of all he does the whole game in one video. Which usually make them pretty long.
"Hit it with the laddle!" - that was my favorite part :D Now I think my favorite Chilla game was the one in a coffee shop, although I really appreciate how this particular story ended in a good ending.
My favourite chilla's art game still has to be the convience store. It felt the most polished with the best aesthetic. I mean, come on. Nothing like a night shift, am I right?
The fact that “work’s done, take a bath” was permanently at the top of the screen during the endgame/while he was discovering the horrors down the hatch was so funny to me. Also, was the guy that was chained up the son that they decided to hold off on killing? The story was confusing for me. But I loved watching Chris’s play through, as always!
I really enjoyed this. Is it my favorite Chilla's Art game? Nope. But it was creepily atmospheric, included folklore (love me some yōkai), and had an interesting, if convoluted and sad, story. And, of course, CJU's commentary was a hoot. 👍
Note to Chilla: have the bag already in the inventory or on top of the sister's car. You're not the only UA-camr I've watched, that walked straight into the room and forgets the bag 🤣
The elevator jumpscare from the delivery game was probably the best, really got me, anyway. Just freaky overall with the smiling priest and vanishing toddler and creepy photos. This game was sort of all over the place. What were the monkey and the crow about? ...straighten up and fly right?
Monkeys in Japanese culture used to be seen sort of as mediators between gods and humans… but I believe they’re more currently seen as more mischievous… more trickster vibes… seen in a pretty undesirable way. Crows are seen more as rebirth… rejuvenation …. Often associated with guidance. Both fit pretty perfectly into this overall story

I enjoyed this one! I was intrigued and entertained for the whole video, which is not always the case with some Chilla's games (I always enjoy them, but some feel a bit repetitive and long-ish). I barely noticed the performance issues you mentioned tbh 😅

I think Chilla’s does a great job at setting the story for each game they do. They deliver the player identity, the mystery, the foreboding, and the supernatural horror element well! I hate anything related to ghosts and baths, so this one creeped me out ngl lol. Bathing areas should be respected neutral grounds, ghosts!! But anyway, great job as usual with your play through! 😭😭
It might be just me but I struggled with understanding the story in this one. I had no problems with the other games. It was just a bit confusing. Especially the end. Can anyone explain a little better?
im lost on a few details since i dont know japanese ghost lore that well but i think i got the gist of it the monk wanted to summon a ghost of Ubume (why? maybe some riches? or maybe they were already cursed and that was an exorcism) so he followed some instructions from the book he had...BUT he messed up and didnt kill her before she gave birth...instead of killing him he locked him up for whatever reason (side note - i think the missing person poster in the bathroom was the son, but not sure). he might have gotten the whole town cursed by not killing her in time as well...he then proceeded to lure 2nd and 3rd victims by coercing the landlord. before the landlord had a chance to burn the 3rd girl, the freed son killed them and saved you, but you were already hurt and got amnesia in bad ending he managed to sacrifice all 3 and thats the ghost leaving the bathhouse what i dont get is why he did that....and why there were 2 types of ghost - little girl and Yoko and wtf was up with the hair from the wall? all in all i have a strong feeling Chris missed a bunch of stuff which is why the lore seems incomplete - maybe not getting a blessing in beginning, or throwing out the doll in first half (or for that matter the 2nd time in the 2nd half), or maybe there was a way to get a 2nd blessing that he missed (like maybe talking to the guy taking a leak when he found the cat since that was the same guy that gave you 5 yen in 2nd half)
looking at Wiki for Ubume just raises further questions because an Ubume only forms when mother dies during childbirth which was not the case here...it has a reference to a Sankai which is a child born from a neglectful pregnancy but those are supposed to kill their mother and look like a hairy turtle or a cow (which could be the case with the son here but graphics and lighting made it hard to make out), but they are supposed to run and hide below the house so it sort of fits the basement imprisonment
The ghost girl character kinda reminds me of the girl from the grudge lol..... can't really choose which Chilla's Art horror game would be my favorite though... 🤔 But in terms of which game creeped me out the most, I gotta go with...the caregiver..i think, idk...im not sure again...😄...well, this one surely wasn't bad at all either! Chilla's Art comes up with pretty good storylines. Anywho, thank you for taking your time out to play these games for us CJU, always! 😄😄❤️

They’re generally can be associated win guidance … we saw the monkey earlier and seen to be dealing with some sort of shape shifting ghost or monster …. And the crow giving you the key is bc it’s guiding you towards the answer .. but you have to figure it out for yourself… pretty interesting the way they tie those animals in here like they did

This game's alright. I still liked the delivery one better. Though to be fair, the story in this one was quite interesting. Basically, Yoko fell in love with the monk. And as you've already garnered from that monk's list you've picked up and the note you found at Unit 203, they had a relationship together and she got pregnant. He didn't realize that she already had the baby when he killed her (the man that you saw in chains was Yoko's son). And thus, you get 2 endings. If you didn't save the man, you get the bad ending (Yoko kills both the landlord & the monk and then uses the blood of the 3 women to resurrect herself. She exits the bathhouse to find more victims.) If you save him, he's the one that kills them, carries you out of the bathhouse, and then set it ablaze. The old woman garbed in pink was the one who found you at the end. Same woman you met at the park and is the grandmother of the 29-yr old who's gone missing (the 1st sacrifice). Regarding the town itself, it's theorized that all the inhabitants of that place (minus the sacrifices) were all ghosts when you meet them. They've been kept there, because of the curse. (This would explain how some would disappear after they've paid their baths.) The mysterious smoking man whom you met at the beginning of the game was surmised to be Yoko's son who's been trying to help the sisters (giving you that coin for the shrine, helped you with finding the cat, etc.) As for the dolls, they're made as part of the monk's ritual to mark you as the sacrifice once you've touched em. These are all stuff that I've gathered, after looking through various lore vids for this game. Anyways, thanks for playing this.... and time for me to scour through the rest of your uploads that I've failed to tackle. XD
chilla's has a very marked style and that is what I like about it. i think that the animation of the ghost needed more work but everything else was 10/10
I am surprised that this one is probably my least favorite out of all of them. I don't hate it but it seems to be the most unpolished/rushed out of the door release so far. It still has that Chillas charm but this was a step backwards in quality in almost every aspect (in my opinion). Their last few releases in terms of overall quality were getting better and better. I hope they really take their time with the next one. I think we all know they have the talent to make a really great one if they really put their minds to it.

I am such a big fan of horror games and love watching your channel. I came a game I believe is new but not sure. It's called Life after death. I would love to see you play it as it is very creepy and has a lot of jump scares. This is would be a perfect game for you.

I was very interested in this game to stream. I had to return it for refund on steam because it kept crashing and was running VERY rough. Was weird because their other game "Convenience Store" was AMAZING!

I feel like a lot of Chilla's games are too disconnected and janky to really have any building tension Jumpscares do not carry horror at the rate their games employ them. And we hardly know the characters at all to gaf about their perils. Even the environments--although neat-o af because of their japanese life depictions--don't go further than looking nice. Like those stains our character has to constantly clean up. We start our shift and obviously see no stains. Alright. Then at the end of the shift when the stains are there, the game wants us to believe that it was the CUSTOMERS that created the mess--even though it's heckin obvious those stains are supernatural, even before we see the 'ghost girl' stain. I just feel like it would add to the creepy factor if our character gets to work in the morning--after knowing that they'd cleaned every stain--and finding new stains. At getting rid of any mystery about where the stains are likely coming from. That they are NOT customer-based. One (superficially blaming the stains on the customers, but we obviously know they didn't create it) makes people brush the situation off as a generic horror game situation/task and that's that. The other (having the stains show up when the player gets to work) builds worldbuilding and adds mystery. There's tension experienced by the character we play as, and then there's tension experienced by us, the player. (There's the third option of mixing the two, but it's a rare day when anyone realizes that, of course.) Not having our character comment on any of the weird sh!t--like pulling hair out of a wall or acknowledging even that 'Oh, these customers sure made a mess in here.' just solidify that the Dev is bypassing trying to get the player to connect or gaf about the actual character we play as and instead is trying to scare us directly. And I just feel like 'little touches' (like having the stains show up when our character gets to work) would add to the unease for the player. Etc

In Chilla´s Arts games there were many occupations but there is one vital missing: Lighthouse Keeper. I bet Chris would be thrilled.

I am such a big fan of horror games and love watching your channel. I came a game I believe is new but not sure. It's called Life after death. I would love to see you play it as it is very creepy and has a lot of jump scares. This is would be a perfect game for you.

I was very interested in this game to stream. I had to return it for refund on steam because it kept crashing and was running VERY rough. Was weird because their other game "Convenience Store" was AMAZING!

Just Funny with the AI animation you can't tell whats he whipping lol. 😆 I've never seen more Hilarious game intros , while the game is Horrifying.

I feel like a lot of Chilla's games are too disconnected and janky to really have any building tension
Jumpscares do not carry horror at the rate their games employ them. And we hardly know the characters at all to gaf about their perils. Even the environments--although neat-o af because of their japanese life depictions--don't go further than looking nice.
Like those stains our character has to constantly clean up. We start our shift and obviously see no stains. Alright. Then at the end of the shift when the stains are there, the game wants us to believe that it was the CUSTOMERS that created the mess--even though it's heckin obvious those stains are supernatural, even before we see the 'ghost girl' stain. I just feel like it would add to the creepy factor if our character gets to work in the morning--after knowing that they'd cleaned every stain--and finding new stains. At getting rid of any mystery about where the stains are likely coming from. That they are NOT customer-based.
One (superficially blaming the stains on the customers, but we obviously know they didn't create it) makes people brush the situation off as a generic horror game situation/task and that's that.
The other (having the stains show up when the player gets to work) builds worldbuilding and adds mystery.
There's tension experienced by the character we play as, and then there's tension experienced by us, the player. (There's the third option of mixing the two, but it's a rare day when anyone realizes that, of course.) Not having our character comment on any of the weird sh!t--like pulling hair out of a wall or acknowledging even that 'Oh, these customers sure made a mess in here.' just solidify that the Dev is bypassing trying to get the player to connect or gaf about the actual character we play as and instead is trying to scare us directly. And I just feel like 'little touches' (like having the stains show up when our character gets to work) would add to the unease for the player. Etc
