The NEW Amtrak Avelia Liberty (Acela 2021) Leaving Washington, DC’s Union Station

- Taken July of last year when it first tested in Washington. It was brought down here to be looked at by the mechanical department and then later, it would return to Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station for preparation for further testing.
04:26 It's a smart looking train, and I'm sure technologically as up to date as anything that France, Japan or Germany has on its high speed routes, but why on earth couldn't Alsthom at least get the profile of the power cars and the passenger cars to at least match each other! One of those things that once you see, you can't ever un-see!
It’s the tilt system of the train. The cars tilt but not the power cars.
@@scorpiovlogs9269 I'm no rail engineer, but that seems a bit daft to me - if Amtrak wanted to use tilting technology why not do what Virgin Rail did over here in the UK back in the early 00's and use Italian Pendolino trains? The Northeast Corridor seems to be a similar case to the West Coast Main Line - an existing rail route dating back to pre-high speed days which has some tighter curves that for one reason or another can't be straightened out.
@@scorpiovlogs9269 There is already a good bit of "tilting" due to the trackage in the northeast corridor.
@@scorpiovlogs9269 That doesn't have anything to do with the shape of the cars. Italy's Pendolino tilts and the cars maintain the same profile as the powercars.
@Albert Retief that has something to do with the loading gauge in case the cars are locked in full tilt, or at least that was the case with the APT
Wow, high speed train with a cow bell....
Yes, if you’re not American we use atypical bells as a silent horn of sorts to alert nearby people that the train is doing something. It’s sometimes used when we they pass stations as well when they can’t use the horn for such reasons.
Required of all American trains to have this
This train looks really good. A much needed upgrade compared to the other Amtrak trains. Hopefully the seats are comfortable and there is much needed space between them.
Why does the body not line up with the passenger cars. thats so weird
The reason, from what I was told, is due to the tilt system of the train. The cars tilt but the power cars don’t. All for smoothness of the ride and what not.
@@scorpiovlogs9269 That...kind of makes sense?
@@russellgxy2905 When the trains tilt, the cars will match the body, or so I'm told
Fascinating to look at that beautiful, 21st century train sitting next to an old, decrepit train platform.
It looks weird now that you pointed that out..
@@jadin5199 hahaha yeah.
And ye olde bell too - something you never hear on TGV, HS1, Shinkansen etc.
Yeah Union has some pretty old and torn up platforms lol. They’re fixing that soon though…hopefully
You sure? I think Italy’s termini’s seen better days. Especially with their new pendelinos leaving the platform every few minutes.
I'm a tram and I approve this video! Ding ding! ;) !!
Damn, Timosha. Lol
*rides you*
i really do love the livery.
Those traction motors 👍
I sure am gonna miss the old Acelas
Is it a test run or are they running passengers?
Amtrak♥️♥️♥️
Test run, they were supposed to be in service this year, but they delayed it to next year due to track maintenance and problems with the electric wires, they are going to continue testing it until those problems are fixed
@@shanewalters2565 Thank You! But man, I was so looking forward to riding it.
@@trish2179 Don't worry, she'll be on the tracks soon before you know it
@@shanewalters2565 hmm? Sure about that buddy, last time I checked amtrak was said to put these trains in service in late October 2021.
I'm not ready for these to enter service, but I am at the same time.
It bounced after stopping lol 0:07
I'm not sure if the horn is official but if they get rid of it, fine, but if they don't, fine. I'm starting to get used to it.
According to Alstom, it's getting a different horn. Probably a K5LA
@@ROTE So the horn it has now must be a test horn.
Hopefully they getting a hybrid K5LA
Thats a train from Alstom. Alstom SA is a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer operating worldwide in rail transport markets, active in the fields of passenger transportation, signalling, and locomotives, with products including the AGV, TGV, Eurostar, Avelia and New Pendolino high-speed trains, in addition to suburban, regional and metro trains, and Citadis trams.
What happened to the Amtrak new rail line they were planning on building after Hurricane Katerina to Mobile from New Orleans?
Politics don’t want to see it happen apparently but Amtrak is still working on restoring it if they can also get the host railroad to agree.
I don't know much about trains but I'm almost certain the flag printed on the side of the locomotive isn't supposed to be backwards...
The rear engine and the front engine are identical so it just depends on if it’s driving north or south. IE which engine is the front changes.
They're correct. Imagine you were flying a physical flag from the leading locomotive. It would be blown toward the rear of the train by the wind, so a painted flag should be in that same orientation.
no coach class.?
Bientôt il y auras le TGV français
👍💥💯
Congratulations United States, it's a good train ^^
