"Using the inertia of your truck" = jerking the suspension of your vehicle. Also, if the chain breaks, it'll fly around hitting whatever is within reach until it stops. Heavy-chain = lots of potential damage. I'm glad you didn't damage anything, but I call that a risky process.
It is a bit risky if overdone. About a month after I filmed this video I tried to pull a tree that was too big. My vehicle sensed that I was in a crash and I had to convince OnStar not to send the emergency vehicles. Luckily my truck didn't seem to be damaged.
A guy died doing this with a stump, the stump flew thru his back window and snapped his neck. Also If you do this hard enough you could twist the frame. Todays trucks arent made for this. Id do it with a old ass beater truck but not a new one, you shoulda used a farm jack
@@jesuslightsmyway That's why you hook the chain up to the rescue hooks if you have them or the tow hitch, not the frame. Small trees and shrubs are not going to go through the back window.
If you take a spare tire of any sort and put it right up against the shrub or bush and run your tow strap from the bush and over the tire and then to the truck, it will act as a fulcrum and actually pull the stump out without the potential for damage to your suspension. Keep the line tight and the only thing you will worry about will be if your vehicle spins the tires on the grass it is sitting on. I did this with 27 different huge shrubs in my yard and with my Smart Car and the spare tire to it. The biggest problem we had was slippage of the tow strap on the shrub at times. We didn't try that nail trick, but found a good way to keep this strap snug and then had no issues. I could see giving the truck some gas, but only if the chain was already at full length and tight, but not loose as you had it. My truck costs too much to ruin it by chancing it will work as you did. That spare tire trick really did act as a fulcrum and made the removal much easier. My Smart Car was a bit light and the rear wheels would start to spin when we had huge roots to remove, but my '04 Ram will do the job just fine now days if I have to get this done again.
My dad had thorny locust trees. I had a 73 Ford Ranger F - 100 with 3 on the tree. I had a 50 foot log chain. I would wrap it 3 to 4 times weaving it over and under to create a choke grip. Give it full throttle get into second gear and pull multiple trees out by one root. I cleared a lot of them that way. They averaged 6 to 10 inches in diameter.
You’re clever! I have been removed about more than 20 bushes in my yard. I have couples more need to get done but i am of fraid of hitting the pipes underground, so i looked for some techniques that i may need. I watched many videos but your is the best. Saves time and easy. Thank you for your video!
Tools you need: V8 Pickup truck with alot of torque Chain Huge open space to drive the pickup Ability to drive your pickup right up to the Bush. Got ya.
What a total[............] You fill the gap.. Removing all those bushes that harbour wildlife, insects et al essential for Earth to provide for we the people.....for Earth’s echo system. Thank goodness these types of peoples are so few. I clicked on this accidentally and am horrified by this beings laziness whilst he whines....”. oh I need a fence because it annoying when I mow the lawn”... oh you poor little man. What a hard life. Well congratulations on a job well done on sanitising nature around you. All these plants provide shade and shelter. Hope the views were worth it.
Also if your tires start spinning stop or you will get stuck. Back up get another angle and get a good run at it. And have no one around, or between the vehicle and shrub if the chain or strap breaks you can get hurt or killed.
Thanks Joe !! Very helpful. I'm not the most experienced "yard laborer", just a gardener, but I have some 50 yr old Azellias that I will move. They have extensive, broad root system. I will get my handyman to help me and we will "loosen" up the root ball first. Great tips and the one about repositioning of the vehicle is something I wouldn't have thought of. I will continue to use and enjoy your helpful site. Deb
What about the people who have a boat load of shrubs that are like 30 years old and they want them removed but don't have a freaking truck?? How's a civic gonna remove those? I'd like to see that video.

Also utility marking probably would be a good idea if you don't know where those are.

Tree not ugly. Bushes are lush and glorious supporting various ecologies
Learning about plants and gardening is a great hobby
How to make your neighbors hate you in a few days!
Absolutely HATE my neighbor that pulled shrubs ruined more than just his yard

Rename the video... How to destroy a beautiful garden in 5 minutes!
That's hilarious :)
Use that sawzall to cut around root mass in the ground, then quick pop of your shovel. Buying blades is a lot cheaper than transmissions.
How sad. Those bushes provide some habitat for small wildlife - habitat that is rapidly disappearing. :-(
Give me a break
Horrifying. Pulled those beautiful established bushes for a rank fence. Unbelievable.
Tools you need:
V8 Pickup truck with alot of torque
Chain
Huge open space to drive the pickup
Ability to drive your pickup right up to the Bush.
Got ya.
Huh. They had a green thumb and you just undid years of work. Good job!
ugh. what i wouldn't give to have shrubs like the ones you have in your yard 😩
nomdeplume scribe that is what Our was thinking.
I'm amazed that it takes you almost 5 minutes to say, "Put a chain around it and yank it out."
Thanks. I put the replay in just for you!
?
Great replay!
Beautiful tree
Trim the lower branches [ called raising the crown ] then put your fence underneath then you have the best of both worlds
You must be the offspring of Moe, Larry and Curly. They too were Jacks of all trades 👻
Potential Darwin Award candidate.
The best idea!!!
Big mistake removing those beautiful bushes that offer privacy and bad for resale. Those are gorgeous.
All opinion buddy. I don't like bushes. You think short term with "resale value".
"To find out how to rip the bumper off your truck, click here!" (replays same video)
Nice one you can get it out
love that.

That was brilliant! Thank you.
Never use tow straps like that
Let's make the frame of the truck need alignment.
I'd rather wrap a chain around the base and use a farm jack to jack it out of the ground.
I have an 04 Toyota 4 runner, NOT 4x4, but tow package, 6 cylinder. Do you think I could do this with a medium size shrub??
Yes but also dig around the base a little and around the roots to make it easier. Be Sure you don't drive over your septic system. You can damage it.
Also if your tires start spinning stop or you will get stuck. Back up get another angle and get a good run at it. And have no one around, or between the vehicle and shrub if the chain or strap breaks you can get hurt or killed.

Yes, it gets tricky for me to know the SPEED I should use whether I use a strap or chain. I also don't want to pull off my entire vehicle back end !!!
Where do I start? After watching everything you just did and said I'm convinced I'd be wasting my time trying to teach you anything anyways.
Where is your property line. I like fences to keep the dogs in. But I would have kept a few bushes for shade or birds.
thats a garden with a lawn ...not a yard
Are you hooking the chain to your trailer hitch?
Yes, I have a clevis that allows the chain to be attached to the trailer hitch. It works great!
Beth Corrigan just hook the chain around the bottom of the bush and hook it on it's led and then hook it to your truck and go
That's only the top half of the root! The roots extend way deeper than that.
What about the people who have a boat load of shrubs that are like 30 years old and they want them removed but don't have a freaking truck?? How's a civic gonna remove those? I'd like to see that video.
Reason # 12, "why I don't buy used trucks"
That's a good point! lol.
use nylon straps
Best way to get rid of bushes: Hire somebody
Knee guards and gloves?😂😂
Destroying the beautiful yard.
A LITTLE ADVICE WHEN FILMING DON'T HAVE UR TRUCK RUNNING.
gingers have soulss
He owns the property, so I guess he can do what he wants, but man I think its a waste.
It's called how to destroy a nice yard and lower resale value.
Lmao
Bozo tree wrecker
Dont help if you dont have a car truck thanks alot for the none help
Well gee wiz let’s all go out and buy a Chevy truck
His guy's talents lie elsewhere...bad sense.
I actually cant watch!!
No worries...it all turns out fine!
Where are your safety glasses???
Was that a dog that ran away because it's smarter than you?
