  • A woman painter comes to the Cumbrian coast for a break. On the lonely sands by Dubmill Point she meets a fisherman who seems haunted by things he sees and others can't. He warns her to leave. He warns her he has seen something. But she is a modern woman with modern thoughts. Those can be useful some places, but not here. Why oh why didn't she listen to his dark forebodings?
Another one of the Tony Walker Ghost Stories by that Tony Walker fella.

Tony Walker your wonderfully written story perfectly described everything to do with that lonely farmhouse and shore. I have passed the house many a time over many years but never once have I seen anyone there. If you told me it was a true story- I would be convinced it was...
When I was a child I remember on weekends Cumbrians from miles around would go to Twentyman's shop in Allonby for their delicious homemade ice- cream. There was always a queue that wound around their little shop with 2 mini aisles but it gave you plenty of time to pick up bags of pre-weighed sweets and Allonby rock that were so cheap you couldn't resist. They used to sell XL Cheese crisps which only exist in Cumbria - the best crisps in the world! Thanks again for your brilliant work Tony- you are delighting many people all over the world including myself in Catalonia Spain with your intriguing stories.

What a terrific story Mr. Walker! Ghost stories are my absolute faves..yours never disappoint! I could so see this as a movie, the setting and atmosphere would lend very well to it..a bit reminiscent of "The Woman in Black". The remake was ok, but the original from 1989 was fantastic! It scared the wits out if me. It, 'Ghost Story", and 'The Shining' (original with Jack Nicholson) are my favorite movies.

That was just amazing and amazingly well constructed too. The weird look George gives her when she first sees him isn’t just some isolated fisherman behaving eccentrically at all as I first thought. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t heard it yet by saying what George sees and why it creates that undefinable look on his face. That becomes horribly clear in the last sentence. Like my beloved ‘Again’ goes for the primal fear of being trapped in a confined space with something monstrous this story takes dead aim at another - being slowly but surely surrounded and ultimately swallowed by the sea. Safety so close yet so out of reach. A lot of people have a phobia of bridges and my sister is among them. Her recurring nightmare is she’s trying to cross one and waves begin crashing over it - more and more of the bridge vanishing with each one. Even my mouth goes a bit dry when I hear the word causeway. I still need to thank her for that time I was five or so and she turned out the light and put my hand in a bowl of cold spaghetti and told me they were eyeballs. This story will reduce her to a whimpering wreck. So I suppose I’ll forward it to her like a good baby brother. We all know the cliche about the best temperature for revenge. This serving will be downright icy. As for our narrators attire all I can say is shame on you Robert Smith. You only get to create fashion victims if every album you make is as good as ‘Three Imaginary Boys’. If that’s not a law it should be.

Oh my G! This was so so difficult for me to listen to... I truly struggled to stay and not click off. Your description of the waves and tide and sudden change in the sea...
I must still have PTSD over my experience in Rio de Janeiro when i only 9 years old.
My family was at a lonely beach outside Rio for a picnic. We didn't know it was known for rogue waves that would come in .. I was almost knee deep in water with my back to the ocean, about 40 feet from my dad at the picnic blanket... when I was hit with a rogue wave. I was told to dig in with my hands and feet or i would be taken out to sea. I had had no time in my little lungs to take a breath, but I stayed down under the enormous weight of the wave for several minutes. I could feel it still moving over me toward the beach and didn't try to stand up until i finally... After how many minutes?.. could feel the weight of the water starting to lighten a bit. How long would it have taken that wave....probably 15 feet high or more... To go up the beach, wipe out all our picnic spread, over the grassy dunes, and TO THE CAR parked on the single lane road?!
How long, just on its incoming onslaught, but then also on its path back out?
I never in that whole time under water felt that I needed to take a breath. How is that possible?! (Actually I know.)
Clearly I'm here for a reason.
So, Tony, it's why i never, ever, ever turn my back on the ocean. And why your description of the ocean tide and its power...and mystery... Almost made me hold my breath while you told the brilliant tale!
(When we reached the car, Dad pointed out the wet asphalt at the car tires.)

Great story as usual! I have a tiny suggestion, though. Often the end of a story is a surprise. What I mean is that the final line is delivered without an emphasis that it might need to convey it is the end of the story. In this case…. Maybe a longer pause between the words “born” and “George”. Or the word “seen” might be emphasized or something. I love the stories you read and write and love the podcasts and descriptions of the author’s life. Thanks so very much…keep them coming!

You are right. There is something about that end which doesn’t sound right. I think I’ll red write it. Something like : it was true George was haunted. He’d been haunted all his life . He’d been haunted by me . “

Wuff…what a story! I’d hoped it wouldn’t end the way it did but…excellent read of a gripping story. Thank you Tony!

Thank you so much! I’ve just listened to the last story and I loved it! I really really really loved that Welsh fairy 🧚‍♀️ story! Would absolutely love some more of that! There are plenty of Irish folk stories with fairies et cetera, just an idea! And I loved your recent story which I fell asleep listening to you last night so I have to go back and find out what happened at the end! Great job Tony! Can I just say I love these three channels.... I hope you don’t mind Tony but people need to listen to this channel it’s called “Encrypted horror By Jasper LeStrange, And also bite size audio classics, which is a mixture of Victorian and later ghost stories and also detective stories from the same period! I hope you don’t mind me telling you about these Because you were all quite unique so it’s not competition, Plus Jasper advertises your channel on his! Thank you Tony 🙏🦋💎🦋

No, I think it's a good thing you mentioned them. There's Ian Gordon with Horrorbabble too who has a huge library. I have done another Welsh fairytale and an Irish one is coming.

Absolute classic and tragically all too realistic. Incoming tides, deepening channels, mist a deadly combination.
