Muranga Town, The Cleanest Town in Central Kenya
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 гру 2021
- Murang'a is a town in Murang'a County of Kenya. Before the independence of Kenya in 1963, this town used to be called Fort Hall. It is the administrative centre of Murang'a County and is mainly inhabited by the Kikuyu community. According to the 1999 census, the town has a population of about 11,021.
The town is low, a bit hilly, small but picturesque with an altitude of 4120 ft (1255 metres) above sea level. As a result of the varying altitudes, Murang'a can get quite cold from May to Mid-August, and can experience hail. To the west of the town can be seen the rolling Kikuyu farmlands that extend as far as the eyes can see.
Murang'a is a fast-growing town that attracts traders and farmers from the neighbouring districts. It has banks, petrol stations, a post office, lodges, nightclubs playing the latest local and Western music, restaurants serving local and exotic dishes, supermarkets, dry cleaners, and lively marketplaces. It has also a relatively busy bus and matatu transportation terminal. A district general hospital is located in the northern corner of the town. The town is accessible from Nairobi by Thika-Murang'a road and from Nyeri.
History
When missionaries first came to Kenya, they found the Coast Region already inhabited by Portuguese, who had taken the coast, strategic for trade, from Arab powers in the 16th century. The missionaries ventured into Kenya's rugged interior and Murang'a was one of the first places they settled.
When the British set up the East African Protectorate in 1895, their first administrative post (Fort Smith) was located in Murang'a.
One of the main highlights of Murang'a's history, however, is the Mau Mau uprising that was led by the Agikuyu community who consider Murang'a their ancestral origin. Murang'a is thus considered, at least by some, the birthplace of the Kenyan independence movement.
Missionaries had initially been welcomed by Karuri Wagakure who was the chief of Tuthu. They set up the first mission church in Kenya at Murang'a.
Murang'a is also the source of Rivers Maragua, which originates from the heart of the Aberdare Range, Mathioya, Kayahwe, Irati and Muriurio among others.
Additionally, Murang'a is known for its fertile farming soil and good climate. Food crops such as maize, beans, sweet potatoes, arrow roots, pumpkins and bananas are grown in the region.
Tea and coffee are the County's main cash crops

The drone shots are as amazing as ever. They make even a very usually dusty Murang’a town look great from a bird’s eye. The location of Murang’a town is great with three or four big rivers just passing by. Not very far from there is the Mũkũrwe wa Nyagathanga the home of Gȋkũyũ and Mũmbi. Great man, thanks and continue showing us more and more of those rural areas which everyone has heard of but don’t know where they are. A visit to Othaya and Kiriaini would provide wonderful drones and they are not very far from Murang’a. Thanks for sharing. Keep going.
@Jack Muraguri which Murang'a are you talking about?? Comparatively with other towns, Murang'a isn't dusty in anyway bring on a sloppy terrain and so all dirt is usually washed downhill. Again very little earth space is left without tarmac or pavement.
Thanks Afrikan Traveller for another fine content. Most towns in Central provinces are not as clean like Kisumu or Kakamega as the seem dusty without paved roads and pedestrians walkways. I know times are tough in Kenya but regardless of how poor the situation keeping clean and hygienic is always a must.
Great observation my brother, if the leaders or governor's of these towns would build pedestrian walkways and spruce up their towns a little bit these areas would be the best in Kenya given their wonderful green environment
Apart from the great video editing and commentary... the sound tracks in your videos are on point. Big up your sound guy who makes these videos even more immersive🔥🔥🤙🏿
Wow Murang'a town is smaller than I expected, super clean and greenly, nice drone shots
He didn't cover around a ⅓ of it, the down town.
We need to come up with a plan to limit urbanization on agricultural land. That is the most precious resource we have. We are going to end up being food importers if we are not careful. Cities are better suited on barren land.
💯
True perhaps thats why kibaki was eyeing the likes of Isiolo town-Kibaki what a visionary!
Been thinking like this for a very long time and it breaks my heart when I pass fertile lands that are written plots for sale
Very true, kwanza Kiambu, they're uprooting coffee plants and selling their land for real estate, it's very heartbreaking seeing all that greenery being replaced by concrete buildings. They think it's advancement least do they know that globally the rich billionaires and wall street smarts are investing on farm lands for agribusiness.
THAT AN IDEA THAT IS OVER DUE FOR ACTION BUT IGNORED.
WHY DOES IRUNGU KANGA TA NOT IMPLEMENT THE IDEA. HE IS EDUCATED TO UNDERSTAND THE LONG TERM NEED FOR THAT .
Beautiful greenery! Thanks for bringing us along
Am a kisii but my dream is to live permanently in either muranga or meru.i don't know what your videos did to me.i can't stop thinking of living there one day.its a three to five year plan.i want to save enough money to buy land there,do farming and start a business.seems weared but it's real and what I think about all the time.
Wish everyone had your mindset. We leave anywhere we love
Having been raised in this town ...I can only say it was epic and memorable
Murang'a no wera tu place to be so beautiful indeed
Thank you for highlighting my beautiful county. There is much to be done. Once you leave the town the roads are pathetic!!
The Kangema road from murang'a kwa maji needs some proper work, unless you branch through Iyego road.
The Mugoiri road from Mukuyu is neat and good for a road trip.
Take us to konza too
Thanks for visiting Murang'a, I'm from Murang'a University of Technology the University the place to be in
Epic smooth drone shots...Great background music and information packed content 👌🏿👍🏽
Bro, Nairobi was ranked number one in africa and number 12 in the world as the most conducive city to live in...best infrastructure , technology /internet connection. You should make a video of GTC and 88 condondium building that will be the tallest apartment in east and central africa will 176M high
In Central Kenya, the rural areas look much better than the towns. They took all their money to Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru. But the rural set-up is very good and beautiful with very many modern homes and houses.
Drone shots makes one appreciate the untouched nature. Nature and NOT urbanization is Kenya's biggest wealth
Muranga is beautiful with such fresh air. Too bad most people from there trade that for congested apartments in umoja😭
Beautiful Murang'a town. The videos are amazing.
Great job @Afrikan_Traveller . always blessing us with amazing content . This Director of photography is on another level . Mad Visual , Amazing Edits and Classic Music . Kenya to the world . cant wait for the next upload . bless up 🔥🔥🤙🏿
Thank you so much
Learnt a lot from the information u have provided in your description box!
Finally was able to see my home town Maragua!! And you are right this is the home town of the greatest female rapper in Africa Stella Mwangi (STL), she's actually my neighbor in Nginda. The only thing I hope the county government would pass by laws on those rusty iron sheets on buildings, most land lords in Nairobi are from Murang'a and are known to be very mean when it comes to aesthetics, they want to build on every available space and won't provide basic amenities for their tenants. Maybe something my Murang'a people can work on.
Am from Maragua too.
They can be forced to apply a coat of paint for aesthetic purposes.
Great video. Keep the amazing videos coming.
God’s blessings always Afrikan Traveler.
Wooow the greenery amazing!!!!!
This is great as always 👌🏾👌🏾
Well done ✅ for covering my hometown. Allow me to add that it is known to be a county of billionaires since majority of the astute business personnels(S.k Macharia, James Mwangi, peter Munga,Benson Wairegi, the late Chris Kirubi just a few to mention) come from it.
In the building watching from Barbados 😎
say hi to riri
My home town. Thxs and Happy Holidays
Wow lovely view
I absolutely love what you do sir
The town you showed as maragua is called sabasaba. Nice video
First comment. I feel like a King. Also nice background music sir. keep it up
Muranga women are what...?
Hi John, Good video. However, that is not Maragwa town. It's Maragwa- Mbombo Market. Also, Murang'a town is like 3 Kenols still. Kenol will overtake Murang'a town someday, but not yet there.
in terms of taxes no town in muranga pays tax than kenol....its now a municipality .talks of having malls, level 6 hosipital, mog and dual roads on the way.....muranga will be dead by the time dual road is ready for use and kenol will thrive till eternity maybe...my thoughts
@@frashaoskah8446 Kenol lacks the administrative advantage that Murang'a town has. The more Kenol thrives, the more Murang'a thrives. It's like a casino, The house never loses.
How will it die?? There are 4 roads joining Murang'a and the tributary towns like Kangema, Kiriaini, Kahuro and even Othaya depend on Murang'a as their reservoir.
Good work African Traveller. I did not see a single Public Park in the Town with trees and flowers where people can rest
Thanks for covering my town
My county headquater!! Good job
Landscape and vegetation looks scenic, that part of Kenya has potential to develop and grow. Good upload.
Waaoo the green look 👌
Hey African Traveller, wonderful pictures, scenic atmosphere and fantastic explanation exspecially in terms of geography.
Would be awesome if you take us one day also to northern parts of kenya like lake turkana, lake logipi or chalbi desert.
Best greetings from one of your greatest fans in Germany ;-)
Nyc content bro
My Ratings
Landscape/Greenery 10/10
Architecture/town aesthetics 2/10
Architecture in Kenya is generally terrible in my opinion lol. Even the way we plan towns is terrible
Architecture is really poor if you ask new city like nakuru will be a blue print to show others how modern Architecture needs to work on a town
@@itgamingke LOL with the kind of cement buildings coming up I really doubt it. We lost the plot long ago. I don't even think architects care about aesthetics in this country. You only have to look at South Africa to see how poorly we design buildings and spaces.
@@ngarumurrayif you're saying/meaning cement buildings as modern buildings then we're on the same page
I even forgot how the town looked like ever since i left highschool waaay back 😂😂🤭.
Big up for showcasing my county
When building a city or town there must be some sort of Urban planning. I like all of the green. The town looks very disorganized.
Good job!
This is very true...muranga is a very clean place...very green and of course very productive...again it's also true that women fro muranga are mature, responsible ,hand working and quiet faithful..whoever told you that was and is very right...muranga tuko sawa.....next week visit the upper part of muranga ujionee.welcome Afrikan traveller
Great job AT
Keep it up Guys
Thats my town. Looks beautiful and amazing
That is my home town. Great shoots. The drone missed the downtown around down town stage of Sagana and Nyeri. Also missed the epic view of Murang'a university and the surrounding.
Murang'a Kikuyus are not subtribes, they are 💯 Kikuyus.
This is beautiful. I miss home.
I actually travelled to Muranga when I was on my Vacation, its a very green and hilly place, what am not very sure is the story of Ladies, hahahaaa, nyc shot bro,Dubai,UAE
Simply Muranga is scenic. My last time in this beautiful enclave was in 2000.
The general populace always thought Central Kenya is developed and favoured by the government. But from these drone shots we can clearly see towns in Western Kenya region are more developed and cleaner.
It all boils to the leadership at the county levels. Seems the leadership in Central Kenya county's aren't interested in creating great first impressions by having beautiful towns
Apo umesema ukweli, kumbe ni vice versa
@@ROVERSTV_KE you'd be very surprised
@@jessenopiyoadory8031 even the Probox, the kikuyu version of a car is a not a very pretty car. Kikuyus follow money. The rest are not factors…you cannot eat first impressions.
@@NjorogeGATEITEI Thank you brother for confirming what I've always observed and noted. Such mindset is detrimental to the Kikuyu nation, take a walk at marikiti market and see the senselessness of the Kikuyu vendors out there, how they operate with all that filth around them still baffles me to date, the same scenarios replicate itself along Kamkunji area, Tea Room, Nyamakima and all dingy areas in Nairobi.
This money you guys worship was created by the wazungus and they have so much of it but they wouldn't destroy or neglect their environment for money.
Your blind love for money at the expense of environment is doing you guys more harm than good. Ever wondered why the Kikuyu lead in being the most dysfunctional society in Kenya?.... I bet you have your answer. Love and take care of your environment first
Africa is Peaceful & Beautiful
Murang'a needs to urgently invest in pedestrian walkways. It is very unfortunate that just taking care of the walking class, who are the majority, isn't a priority there...
That is a rich town but it doesn't come off as impressive...
Guys are very stingy there, that's why
Eyyy, droneshots are world class
Great shots though bredda
Thanks Bro
Fort Hall not fort smith, also, Murang'a Highschool (top 10 in Kenya) and Muranga University among other prosperous academic isntitutions are located within a 5km radius of the town. I think fort smith is in Kabete.
Fort Smith is kabete
Not 5km but just 2km.
Like your UA-cam men🙏🏼👍🏼
can u do a video about kajiado town please.
Nicee ine but unetukibizaa sana mpaka hutajuonyesha how tucm from kenol to muranga but shoting amazing
My home town. Born in maragi and grew up there. Mukuyu market is where we used to buy everything. I cannot recognize anything. Watching from Hamburg. We moved to Thika 2009🤭
Kenol area is quickly growing, and lands are turning into real estates because it's near two roads: Nairobi Nyeri, Meru highway and Nairobi Murang'a road which is in the process of expansion.
Maragua is a few kms from muranga town..you have to divert to get into the town
do vihiga town next
Kenyan towns growing so quickly since 2010
Expected to view Murang'a University, nxt tym should feature
Expected that but the drone kept moving from main stage area only to the railway bridge and back. Even the down town wasn't featured.
Kenya is so green.
Kenya is everything: Green, arid; jungle, tropical; rainy, parched; cold and misty, sweltering...
Do a drone shot on Bungoma town brathe
I m no longer enjoying the videos. Too much frequent cutting of footage which makes it hard to understand the landscape😪
Quality of the videos has proved, but I also don't like the frequent video cuts and the reverse drone shots they were doing a few videos back, I feel your pain. 😏
Reverse drone doesn’t work for me either
Murang'a ni kwetu...mama B here
Have not been receiving your notification for two moths
My homage
Afrikan Traveller , state facts as is! Is that clean , let alone super clean? The whole beautiful mountain region's towns are in a bad state
Central towns are wanting needs more effort
What is the population of this town?
dope
Central Kenya towns are rough looking. Muranga is maybe cleaner but all roads in town s of Mount Kenya are in a sorry state.
When were you there ??the roads are good this days thanks to the county ,and devolution 8:32
Let’s just do it family. Join the family and like share and subscribe.
Thank you Esrene
lets view kamulu
The town you showed after kenol is sabasaba not maragua. Maragua is off the main road.
Pamoja
The major reason Muranga town does not grow is bcos more than 50% of its residents transact their business in the neighbouring Thika town & Nairobi city. Without homegrown local investors the town lags behind in many aspects. They should know Charity begins at home.
Nairobi is an international hub so the customer base is salivating for those with business acumen!. Local businesses for those mainly not well exposed.
TINY BUT RUNS THE COUNTY.

Maragau Mostly owne2 by kiambu people's place like Samarrys "kwa Makongo British then sisal place little land you could by minimus 20 care
Murang'a and Kiambu are one people divided by colonialists. So many people from murang'a make a big chunk of current Kiambu population.
Correction: Murang'a, Kiambu and Nyeri aren't subtribes , but a creation of British divide and rule policy.
Maragua Ridge
Don’t fly ur drone too high mate we’re seeing jack
Muranga County is very hilly.
I did not see maragua town...
FYI 1952 colonial vs Kikuyu fight started in Kiambu and was fought in Nyeri till the end...these Murang'a guys never fought at all.
Never fought?what's up with you?
Muranga my home town
The moment we know urbanisation is harmful we shall be starving let's stop this

Will seek permission from Wa-iria for you to get a clear view.
