FYI, Iai is 2 Japanese words together, 居 'i' + 合 'ai', so it is pronounced like "ee-eye". Anyway, thanks for the video! I am new to Monster Hunter, and this guide has really helped me understand the Long Sword.
I got my first MH game just a week back. Rise on the switch. And I am so thankful you made this tutorial. Your other beginner level videos are also great and have been super helpful for me to get started.
Thank you so much for this guide. By far the most comprehensive, yet easy to follow tutorial I’ve seen. I just picked up the game, and I was having a lot of trouble with timing and spacing. 👍👍
As Monster Hunter Rise released on PC just yesterday, I just started out and this video was very helpful. Because the game actually doesn't explain the most important move to you, in my first 2 hunts I didn't even find out how to do a Helmbreaker, then I went into the Hunters Notes which I probably just should have done earlier lol. Since most weapons stayed largely the same as in World, everything is going smoothly so far. But the number 1 thing in this video that I didn't get yet that deserved you the Like on it's own is that I did not realize that Spirit Iai Slash levels up my gauge now. I knew that they changed it from world so it no longer costs a level. But I didn't know that it was actually buffed so much that it gives a level on top of that. I will definitely look to adjust my playstyle when compared to world now. It's gonna be hard to get that Foresight muscle memory out of my brain though.
Ive mained longsword for the last half year on Iceborne and now in Rise but this video made me realize that although I believe im adequate at LS and even beat rise with it, that I have crippled myself from actually become adept at the weapon. Now im excited to try out the new things ive learned on this!
I played safe in world with shields and guns. But in rise on pc I decided to learn melee. Felt like a stick in the mud with longsword til I discovered the iai slash that auto charges. I'm playing a whole new game now melee is a blast. And now you've shown me the iai spirit slash and how to practice foresight timing, this is gonna be fun.
My favorite with full spirit gauge is wirebug up, zR in the air, zR immediately after landing, then instead of the roundhouse slash at the end; I use the wirebug double slash thing. It’s amazing and it’s also how I usually cut off tails
I made a dumb combo that is really satisfying to pull off! It goes iai counter, to sakura slash, back to iai sheath ready for the next counter. Got into doing this because I don't like helm breaker in this game!
Contrary to popular belief the spirit reckoning combo is actually not faster than regular spirit blade. If you do the whole spirit blade combo it’s actually slightly slower until you can sheath your weapon. If you do it after an iai slash or fade slash then the speed is about the same. You want to go into special sheathe after the reckoning attack, otherwise rolling out or manually sheathing leaves you open and is slower. Spirit reckoning has a lot of other advantages though, it does high damage and costs less sharpness, and dividing slash is great to reposition. Spirit reckoning seems to be better for high skill players who are confident in their ability to iai spirit slash, and rely more on that to build gauge as opposed to foresight slash. Doing the spirit reckoning combo after a foresight slash is slower and more dangerous than roundslash so you need to pick your openings or use spirit slash to build gauge. I like doing a foresight then canceling into special sheathe to then do an iai spirit slash if I see another attack coming
In world I mained Charge Blade for like 500h... in Rise I tested sword and it's so fun, I don't know what they changed but counters are so juicy when it lands
No lie man, I actually avoided Longsword so I can wait for you to drop a guide. Longsword is only one of my 'flex' weapons but it is one I got pretty good with in World. I figured since I'm learning some new weapons that didn't interest me until Rise I'd just put off Longsword for a bit. I know you're skilled and tend to find all the little tech that others don't usually talk about, so what better way to get caught up on the Rise LS than to wait for your video?
I played Bow in world, have not finished Iceborn yet about 150 hrs in Started Rise but prefer it more as it is not as clunky and slow paced ad world. Also gathering is not a pain as world. Started S&S in Rise, now changing to longSword. I could not get the counter with IA slash as I did not realise you were using the R2 (on PS5 and not the triangle LOL) took me 3 hrs and I gave up, I could not understand why counter was not possible :D Now it is possible, tx :D
Tried Generations Longsword and absolutely hated it Picked up Rise, and tried Rise Longsword Immediate reaction was "oh my god I need to learn this immediately"
New to monster hunter and havent quite decided on my main weapon yet. So far switch axe has been the easiest to pick up, id love to get long sword down but i just cant get the spacing andtiming down for counter attacks etc.long sword looks “brainless” at first but feels like theres definitely technique that separates a proper LS main and a guy just spamming buttons (im the second one)
@@DearGamerTV I need to be like you though for real lol, your too smooth with it. I just need way more practice. Bro for real though im dancing with these monsters like its prom knight.
I just picked up long sword today and your guide really helped out! I did the rajang arena and best it on my 3rd try! It was a real struggle though, 14 minutes of running like an idiot I got the iai counter down but the foresight slash confuses me. Any tips for the timing?
I'm having a hard time getting lateral slash to work. I just did it. And now I can't do it again...... EDIT: Okay I got it, it has to come after another move like a step slash or a thrust.
You have to eye your character movements. Just cause you press it doesn't mean it will do the move if it's stuck in an animation. Pay attention to each move when it ends, that's when you can put in inputs that allows you to do said moves.
I get that too. Either you're pressing ZR+B too early after an attack, or you're not pressing both buttons at the same time. In my case, I kept pressing the B button before ZR by accident so I switched those buttons with R instead, and it works out just fine now
Thanks for watching fam! Don't forget to like the video and subscribe if you're new ;)

Why can’t you counter Ruth’s tail thing and do damage
I am honored the Longsword master himself has graced us with a tutorial.
No I’m honored for all your support
Yeah TY! You gotta practice 2 get better 💯 I know you have. Sometimes it takes the patience outta me lol

your vibes are just so contagious and positive, your videos always make me feel energized
Wow thank you so much
I've watched the top three videos for "monster hunter rise longsword" and I can't tell why this is the third result. This is the best one by far.
You made me make LS one of my mains and now I love it. lol
lmao same

This is the best tutorial for anyone new to mh even I learned despite playing since tri

Yeah in Rise Iai Slash is everything, foresight is in the back seat. Play very aggressive in Rise.
I don't even play longsword but love watching your videos!

First video I've seen with great detail as well as demo of application in a fight with all small errors as well. Thank you from a casual gamer
Thanks for watching
Just making the change to Longsword to prep for Sunbreak and this tutorial was the best one! Good work bro 💪🏾
Thanks fam see you on the battlefield

That intro clip was the definition of “I’m not trapped in here with you, you’re trapped in here with me”
Today todayyyy we finally have a guide!! Nicely done!
If you guys need a rundown all about LS? This is us guy right here and I appreciate the builds he showcased with the deepest night LS.
Finally, I get to get good as u. Thank you so much for this video 👍
No disrespect to peppo, but there's something so SMOOTH about learning the longsword from the LS master DG.
First LS guide I've seen that actually shows off and gives some advice on timing of the attacks, nice one!

This weapon is fun, I'm glad I tried it this time around.
Late to this video but thank you for this guide, I just switched from bow to longsword so it's good to see how to use it effectively.
I play longsword too but if you do a video like this you also can say something about skills which one you recommend, which you use etc.

Dear game is so good 👍👍👍❤️❤️
How do u do foresight slash so perfectly?
Rise nerfed FS really bad. In World I had no problem hitting them.
I really enjoyed this tutorial, very informative and now I feel a lot more confident in my LS gameplay thanks again big dog!
Thank you for watching! Glad it helped
@@DearGamerTV I need to be like you though for real lol, your too smooth with it. I just need way more practice. Bro for real though im dancing with these monsters like its prom knight.
LS looking extra stronk. Can’t wait till I get around to using it in Rise
Did you forget R2 + O (PS4 console) skill where u will spend 2 bugs? It counter the monster attack like almost 100% guaranteed.
No I didn’t, it’s just the damage output of using two helm splitters is better then using two bugs for that skill.
As a dual blades main, I’m interested!
I noticed everytime you do the Iai slash u glow a little bit blue is this the signal to press the RZ button to land the slash right?
In would but my spirit gauge doesn’t even work/ buttons
can u tel what build ur using on the last video ?
Thanks bro guide helped me tremendously 👍💪
Glad to help man, in Foresight we Trust!

Thanks for this guide . Dance & hit with the LS. In foresight we trust
Thanks for this DG!
Just what i fkn needed
Like saying it's like dancing 🕺 using a counter is letting the monster leading. You beating.
You forgot that spirt attacks can go through though areas of the monsters so your weapon doesn't bounce
What’s ur layered armour?
I'm having a hard time getting lateral slash to work. I just did it. And now I can't do it again...... EDIT: Okay I got it, it has to come after another move like a step slash or a thrust.
i wanted to use the longsword but it got confusing when i was unable to pull off any of the moves so i moved to the hunting horn
Do you play with the Pro Controller?
Eyy my palicos named Mr Whiskers too
You had to pick Rajang didn't you =) My first LS run in Rise was with Rajang, and I had to take a break for a while not to break the Switch...
I had to ;)

“Your not always gonna land the Iai Spirit Slash”
Not with attitude you won’t comrade
i guess I'm gonna try ls
how do i pull off the special sheate? all i do when i press zr+ B i roll
