  • This is the first video in a new series, where I talk about my sewing machines. Today, I'm talking about my main machine, my workhorse, the Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9400QCP. I'll be sharing the things I like about the machine, the things that I don't like, how much I paid for it and give a short demonstration of a straight stitch.
Be aware: When the machine is turned on, the computer screen flickers in the recording. It's a frame rate thing and my film making skills are not sophisticated enough to fix it. If you are sensitive to flickering lights, you may not want to watch from 2:26 to 11:58.
The computer screen does not flicker in real life.
P.S. I am not affiliated with Janome and purchased the machine on my own accord. I have been a sewing machine ambassador in the past but didn't want to have any commitments to a particular company. If you are looking to buy/get a new machine, I recommend checking out this video with tips for finding the perfect machine for your needs and budget: • 10 Tips for buying a s...

Thanks for the video. I'm condisdering buying a used Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9400CP and this was very helpful. Did you resolve the backstitch issue? I quilt and this is an important issue for me.

чтобы заправить нитку в иглу,надо опустить лапку,а игла должна быть в крайнем верхнем положении.если вы будете соблюдать это правило,проблем не будет.удачи

How does this compare to the Memory craft 6600P, besides bigger throat?
    Nice video.

I'm sorry I'm really not familiar with all the different models. This is my first and only Janome.

Hi Beth I have the same machine as yours but I’ve had problems that I’ve never experienced with my old janome excel. What happens is when I start sewing a seam say - I sew a few stitches forward then reverse over those stitches - but when I go forward again the foot seems to push the fabric making a fold . I’ve never seen this before - have you ? and what did you do to avoid this happening- kind regards Theresa

Hi Theresa, I do have issues when backstitching lighter weight fabric. It will bunch up the fabric on the backstitch. Is that similar to what you're experiencing? My machine did come with other throat plates and a woman at the shop where I bought it told me that she really likes the straight stitch throat plate for thin fabrics and for sewing small things. It has a very small opening for the needle and the fabric is less likely to get pushed down into the machine. The only thing is you can't do as many stitches with it. Plus, it's not super easy to switch out so I rarely use it.
Sometimes, I'll put some tissue paper under the first 1/4" or so of fabric and use that to stabilize the edge. After stitching, I'll tear it away. It's a quicker solution.

@@SewDIY thank you Beth for replying - it’s when I go forward again after reverse stitching the foot pushes the seam edge over itself - I sew with T shirt fabric and the seam allowance is only 6mm - however my Janome excel never did this no matter what sort of fabric and it never had problems back stitching or stuffing fabric down below the plate - your stabilising suggestion is probably the fix but I’m going to call janome today to see what they say- so sweet of you to reply - I enjoy your videos and I’m bell subscribed too 😊 have a lovely day 😀

Hi Frank, It works the same as a gas pedal on a car. The harder you push, the faster it will go. That's all there is to it. All machines I've used work the same way.
