President William Ruto vs. Eliud Kipchoge

On July 1, 2023, His Excellency, Dr. William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, participated in a unique 1-minute and 59-second - 1:59 tree-planting challenge at the 7th Annual Kaptagat Tree Planting challenge. Inspired by Eliud Kipchoge's legendary one-hour, 59-minute (1:59) sub-two-hour marathon record, 500,000 trees were planted.
The Kaptagat Forest restoration initiative was launched in 2017 with the leadership of National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, who is the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme patron. The program has successfully restored 1,284.2 hectares of degraded forest, giving back to the community and promoting environmental conservation.
