She explained herself, that this was the song, she felt the most comfortable with at the time and it was the most natural for her voice.
The look at the end , was her patented "don't mess with me"-stare - what a contrast to that lovely, proud girl-smile, seconds later.
Indeed, that was a very clear focus right there! And as you said, it's a great contrast so see that big smile just seconds after that! :D And I agree, I think this song fits her greatly!

Hello and thank you for your fine reaction. I love this song an her performance. The judges are hypnotic or in trance.
They have a new TV show in russia. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well knows artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They have to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. november. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singers. And Diana (18) won this competition. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow is her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion.

She uses her low hooded voice in this at the start..and that puts some off but its developed cleverly as a western theme allowing her to use the North American indian tribal sound ..
The switching is a spin off from her yodel training.
Because of her early history and possibly criticism of her unique voice this song had a particularly special place in her repertoire.

I think this song fits her greatly, as do the other ones I heard from her so far. I can see her vocal sound being loved by some and less by others, as it's very peculiar, though I am definitely one of the admirers of her sound! ;)

Enjoyed your comments on her....the background is as extraordinary as the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.

You're gonna have some real fun when you get around to some of her performances on "Show Must Go On". The show she won this year. Her finale for the "singer's choice" category was Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. She also has a great Scorpions cover for a song I never liked (Maybe I, Maybe You). I like her cover but not the original, haha.
Because of her voice and break she benefits from a distinct falsetto and can do things you generally expect from male singers (since sopranos generally have far less distinction between their head voice and falsetto register). Her best western cover so far is her performance of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. It's kind of ridiculous how good it is.

Original by "Rag'n'Bone Man"........Diana is a natural Contralto, which is rare and the lowest of female vocalists' registers.....she reminds us that there are so many talented performers from the "world music" genre,.....but she is unique among them.......she was abandoned as a child and raised in a Russian orphanage ........Her adoptive Mum used singing and voice lessons to help Diana overcome the trauma of her earliest years....

Could you react to Hammer of Dawn by HammerFall its a really cool song and Straight Rock N Roll song aswell!
The guitar at the very beginning sounds like a resonator guitar, (also known as a dobro), and although I am not 100% positive, it could be played with a slide. Look up Justin Johnson on youtube for a master of blues slide and resonator guitar - his song "Son of a Witch" is played on a dobro resonator guitar.
Later on, it sounds like they are plaing bursts of chords on a hurdy-gurdy. I think he may be the one you thought had an accordion. (Another instrument you may need to look up on youtube if you are not familiar with.)
From looking at different voice instructor reactions (Fairy Voicemother in particular), they go into voice nerd technical detail of how Diana produces that throaty dark color from her larynx.

This performance is not her best - somewhat clumsy and immature, but her voice is amazing. She is still not a professional at this point. It seems she gets better arrangers (can't think of the correct term) after this to help her represent herself better. Diana has blossomed into a beautiful and graceful young woman.
