  • Watch Full Interview: • Lil Rob Tells His Life...
Part 2: • Lil Rob on Getting Add...
    --------
Rapper Lil Rob talks about his upbringing and early career in San Diego. He recalls how the area was segregated during his grandmother's time and was home to Mexican farmworkers. Lil Rob also shares tales of his early passion for music and performing, which started when he was just a young child. This led him to begin rapping and producing his own music and handing out his first vinyl record when he was 16. Despite his humble beginnings, Lil Rob believes that his family-centric and closely-knit upbringing in Eden Gardens played a significant role in shaping his identity and career today.

I think it would have been ten times better if Vlad himself had done the interview just cause he has more personality and does more research...besides I think Lil Rob deserved to be interviewed by Vlad and not somebody from his camp cause it makes it seem like he is not that important and he definitely is....I think more chicano legends like Mr. Shadow and others deserve more exposure on this platform...I think that, had they in their days had these platforms they would have been just as if not more famous than African American rappers....wich I grew with as well no disrespect, matter of fact got a Tupac tattoed on my left arm.

I graduated high school in 1995 and I was raised on hip hop. I listened to everything pretty much besides country music. I just could never get into it. I tried. But I listened to everything from classic rock like Pink Floyd,Beatles, The Doors,Led Zeppelin, The Who and many more. I also loved Metal like Metallica,Megadeth (Dave Mustaine was my neighbor here in Paradise Valley for a few years)Slayer,Korn, Deftones and many more. I listen to club/techno music before it was called EDM in the 90’s because the rave scene was huge here in Phoenix then. I love music period. I can go without tv, I haven’t watched actual tv in years, but I can’t go without music. I would go crazy with it. I still need to put on music to fall asleep to. what's wrong with country?? check out some blue grass music and you will see some real skills being played on some simple instruments. To really appreciate music is to find and listen and enjoy music from music you say you typically don't like. A musicians/bands goal is to be heard by everybody. So don't sell yourself short by dismissing a type of style of music. and don't categorize music into any kind of specific genres, only p*ssy poser f*ggots do that sh*t. Categorizing musicians and bands into genres does a disservice to that band and musicians to only being heard by a small few.

@@SanDiego357 I appreciate that bra. It's just weird because when I was a kid growing up in rough places, the gangs ran things. Their presence was large. You couldn't do illegal business without answering to them. You saw them out there clear as day. MFs were getting rich, at least some of them. Money and illegal trade was going down on a large scale. So how is it that I move thousands of pounds throughout Carlsbad and Encinitas from 1990-2005, not have it be a secret, and never get stepped to by any of these cliques? Like have you ever gone to Carlsbad and actually tried to look for Varrio Carlsbad? Like where are they? What are they running? Where is their turf? What actually makes them a street gang? I can get 20 Italians in the same room, doesn't mean we're the mob. I agree with you on the gentrification, it's a tragedy. Totally taking the flavor out of some of these areas.

Eden Gardens was definitely a varrio in the 80s & early 90s. All the agriculture land was sold off so no need for migrant workers anymore. The entire SD Coastline is expensive, even Imperial Beach and Oceanside have become pricey

I met lil rob in San Antonio tx for a show. I met, guess his manager white dude first, and I was shuttle driver for a hotel. I was eating when they came up to take him to get chicken strips and when I brought back to the hotel that guy said “I don’t got a tip you going to the show?” I said “yea I know of couple there” I got out of work changed shirts and went in missing lil rob set. I got VIP from friends I knew and his manager came up to me when I was talking to friends and asked to lil robs table. He got me a corona and a shot of patron. So I asked the waitress to get 5 shots cause he had some 3 other people with him. Lil rob asked me “hey fool why you get us a shot?” I said “it’s outta respect y’all got me drink and a shot” he said “ok cool respect what’s your name?” He prolly forgot me but he is super humble and cool
