  • This is Part 2 of My History of Computers where I explore my experience of home computing as a kid in the 80s. My computer was an Atex 2000 which was an Apple II Clone or Apple Compatible, and some of my favourite games were Karateka, Sabotage, Taipan, Ultima II, Lode Runner, Flight Simulator II, Castle Wolfenstein.
Thanks Danny for the Micro-Educational Floppy Disk photo!
And apologies for the Floppy Disk Whisperer reference.

I've never heard of the Atex 2000. Cool to find out about it though. My second computer was the Dick Smith Cat so that's how I got my first taste of an Apple //e compatible computer. I also had a Dick Smith Wizzard as my first computer as well. Got it for Christmas 1982. Worked my bum off in 1988 though to get a Laser 128 and a 1200 baud netcomm modem. I miss them all.

That’s great to hear. Yes I knew the Dick Smith Cat all too well as I worked at DS for a couple of years. It has been a real nostalgic journey thinking about these computers again.

    2000? Sounds...futury.

For sure. The 80s was a very futury time.
