I think traditionally speaking, Malay wedding would do gotong-royong. So the big family and villagers would come together to cook, help with door gift, some close family members would fund this and them. So that is the “trying to help you cover for the wedding” 15.24 . Now we still do practise this (kampung or not), just depends from family to family. At the end of the day, it must be ikhlas. We don’t expect everyone we invite to be responsible for the wedding we decide..
