Hi Austin, Your movie was one of the most infuriating documentaries that I have ever seen. Thank you for the amazing work you have done bringing awareness to this insane problem!
It’d be great to have your movie on Netflix or maybe Sundance film festival. I assume you have tried already. The level of awareness would be huge. Anyway, I’m still dealing w my frustration after watching your movie. All the best!
Hello Austin, I never heard about patent trolls, until now, as I am waiting for Xplane 12 (I love XP11 since its release) and watched many videos where you explain the new flightmodel, read the F4 dev article, etc. No need to say that one more or less accidentally stumbles across that truly unbelievable and totally weird, random and whatever else „thing“ of what re patent trolls are doing. Next, I‘m gonna watch your documentary. Didn’t hat the time yet. As I’m a father as well, your words concerning your daughter and in what a world she raises really touched me, so true for at least parts of our/her life. I hope that you have the patience to go through the process for the next years. Thank you for the hard work and passion you put in your work! Daniel
What hes forgotten in this is that the us patent office is supposed to stop patentsthat are obvious. So all of these patents never should have been granted in the firstplace.
Uniloc has 113 claims in their patent. Each claim, as far as I can tell, is the same thing, with the words and punctuation switched around. They said that we infringed on one claim. One sentence in their patent. Over the course of about 3 or 4 years and about $750,000 or so, we got the patent office to admit that the claim never should have been approved. The claim said that Uniloc owned the idea of a computer talking to another computer to unlock software... a thing that was done in practice long before the patent was ever written. When we did this, Unilocs' lawyers replied that: 1-We were SUPPOSED to provide ONE piece of proof that the patent was invalid, but we provided so MUCH proof that the patent was invalid, that ALL of the proof should be tossed out, because it broke the rule of providing ONE piece of proof that the patent was invalid. 2-Now, with one claim of 113 overturned, they now said we were infringing on TWO OTHER claims in the patent instead. So Now we should expect 3 years and $750,000 in litigation... times two. All of this was in writing, in the arguments they filed during the suit 3-Around that time, Uniloc told me, via my lawyer, that they would go away if I gave them $50,000... and of course signed a non disclosure agreement, so I could never talk about what happened. Had I done that (as about 97% of the people do), then I would never be able to make this movie or this comment now, of course. 4-Uniloc also offered to settle with MICROSOFT at about the same time. Microsoft agree to settle with Uniloc. Microsoft signed a non-disclosure agreement, so they will never tell you what happened. Again, to be 100% clear: A troll sued both me and Microsoft, in the same lawsuit. I stood up to the troll and overturned the patent claim, Microsoft settled and gave Uniloc money and signed a non-disclosure agreement so you could never find out what happened. This is what companies that are sued by patent trolls do, 97% of the time. At this point in the case, the case was assigned to a NEW judge, as I recall, and this judge said that Uniloc would have to re-file a new lawsuit with the new claims... which they did not do to us (we were the 3% that would stand up to them), and instead continued to file patent infringement lawsuits against other companies instead.
@@austinmeyer Man, Uniloc chose the wrong guy to sue lol! Thank you for bringing this situation into light, before I saw your first video regarding Apple being sued, I had no clue what a patent even was. That one video and your other videos regarding patents and patent trolls and all the "Smiths" taught me a lot. This series and the movie really brought to light the corruption of the Patent system. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a patent that goes something along the lines of "Patent on sharing problems with the filing of ideas." Thank you Austin Meyer for everything you've been doing.
First of all, thank you for X Plane! Patent scams are basically pseudo legal blackmail. So, can you counter with a legal move? Now that at least one suit has been thrown out, can you sue Uniloc for filing a frivolous lawsuit and claim fees and damages? Do what the president seems to be doing! Crowd fund as many lawsuits as you can against Uniloc!
The judge did not hold Uniloc accountable in any way. He did not make them pay any of our fees or any other sanctions of any sort. In the USA you cannot file a sep lawsuit for damages related to your defense, no.
Uhhhhmmm.... because I'm wouldn't, I didn't, I never would, I never did, and I'm telling you that here. Also, the fact I'm making documentary movies and posting youtube videos should be a pretty good hint. Oh and also all of the proceedings are public record and can be easily checked: We had the claim in the patent made against us thrown out as invalid. It took about 4 or 5 years and many hundreds of thousands of dollars to overturn a single sentence, but we did it! It's all public record.
You don't make a patent troll-proof. You make a business troll-proof. The only way to do that is to save so much money that you can defend yourself when sued, and make a documentary movie to expose what they are doing so they don't come after you again. Or, so I have found.
@@na.5010 No, this is not a thing. In the US you cannot file sep suit for fees. The judge awards fees... or not. In the case of the judges in texas taking patent trolling cases: Always NOT.
@@austinmeyer T.Y. sounds like this is some sort of legal scheme going on between justices and lawyers. Glad you had the resources, you should take them to the Supreme Court if the Texas courts are in the scheme. Regardless, glad you had the resources to fend for yourself.

Sorry. Doesn't work. About a third of the people named in the lawsuit Uniloc filed against me were from outside of the USA. Including Mojang, in Sweden, the original creator of Minecraft. Uniloc sued Mojang out of the USA... and spelled the game "MINDCRAFT" in the lawsuit. So Uniloc claimed to own how Minecraft was sold.. without actually knowing how to spell the word "Minecraft". Sooooo.... your idea doesn't work. Sorry.
@@austinmeyer If we are restricting this to ideas that would work then the second best alternative I have involves the use of a large amount of explosives and a lot of collateral damage.
Patent [Patent ID Here]: Patent on making patents of ideas already implemented by others as tangible products or services, then suing those who use said products or services for patent infringement.

But everyone keeps having it... and each person that does, thinks they are the first person to have the idea. The full move THE PATENT SCAM is on amazon prime and maybe some other outlets... it clearly outlines the whole thing.
Just watched the documentary on Amazon Prime and shocked, and what you did and doing is spectacular , great job!

Exactly, there is no problem with the Patent Law, but there is so much corruption that the law isn't even being executed properly at all.
