That record epitomizes everything people have come to despise about Record Store day. I'll stick with my Let it Bleed box set that comes with the stereo and mono version (with period correct sleeves and labels) on both vinyl and CD, a poster and a hard back book, that cost me about $10 more than what they're asking for this travesty.
If they're going to have these recurring Record Store Days that appeal to collectors, just reissue LP's in different colored vinyl or picture disks for the collectors at normal prices. Many buy these things just to show them off and either never remove the cellophane or actually play them.
When I saw the 900 amount...I knew this was released as a Record Store OWNER title.Good luck..they COULD have released 10,000..sure..a hand pour... then pour for a few more days....

Well done video. To each his own. I'm sure all of us paid more than we should have for some records that were in our "must have list". I think this one will attract the Let It Bleed completists.
Talking of rip offs, the forthcoming Neil Young 'After The Goldrush' 50th Anniversary release comes to mind. Really surprised at Neil unless he has no control over setting the retail price.
Loved your version of the Richards guote...OMG I have paid up to 1400 for a Butcher Stereo..but would never pay 100 for a repress colored vinyl of any band..good luck...it did look nice for $30
How did two of them already get sold if it hasn't been officially released yet! Does that mean some grimy record store owner ordered them and is selling them on eBay?
Sadly, I think it happens more often than we all would like to believe. Glenn Frey said it best, "It's the lure of easy money. It's got a very strong appeal."
I know that some stores pull titles aside..for themselves..for friends...unfortunately the lure to do so breaks souls... Pretty sure this will be a $200+ record on Friday...
People sell them as "Pre Orders" and promise delivery after the release date... I just dont know how they can "Guarantee" you'll get it, unless they own a Store.. and selling them above retail, or even holding them for someone is against RSD's rules and you can be scratched off the list of "Stores that are aloud to buy them".. they have strict rules.. Stores can't hold them, promise them, pre-sale them or anything like that... like I said, you get caught, you cant order them any more.... I just wonder how do they enforce these rules?... ya know?
I think the hand poured and limited copies are driving this. What does hand poured really mean? Your right splatter is unique too. Very good review. Thanks
the only plus may be that i heard Robert Ludwig mastered this. It may sound amazing - still not worth that price? curious what the sound quality is like?
I’d genuinely like to know who buys these things and why. It cannot be for the music/sound quality. I really don’t understand the modern vinyl market at all. Just glad my favourite Stones LP is Aftermath (got an original UK mono for £5 years ago)
Good video. We need to remember it's geared towards collectors. Who cares what someone pays for something they want. People pay crazy money for records all the time.
The reason some of us care is because every time one of these sells there's less likelihood of a decent sounding all-analog vinyl pressing ever being released (since presumably they don't sell, or perhaps could with good marketing currently wasted on this nonsense)
@@JohnnyFriendly pressing 900 of these layered colored vinyl copies isn't going to prevent any repress of this title down the road in an All Analog format. If $100 sounds like a ripoff, try this on for size: At the moment, several dealers on Discogs are asking between $400 to $600 for this album that was just made yesterday. I could sort of understand the asking price being that high had there been only 10 copies pressed. but since there were 900, what on earth are they basing their prices on?!?! The vinyl is attractive, but I've seen lots of other multi color pressings that are just as nice if not better. This really is a crime, especially if people are foolish enough to pay what these pirates are asking.
That's $99 dollars too much!!! Question do you know if any of the 50th Anniversary of the Let It Bleed album are remastered from the original analog tapes?

Cough (Elton John purple and gold vinyl). It's an excuse by the label to charge exorbitant prices and not sit with excess stock. The fans end up being the losers whether they can get a copy or not.
Considering I haven't played it since UA-cam seems to be the greatest record store in the world, I agree. The copy I bought 50 years ago hasn't been pulled from the shelf in decades.

Mike thank you for this video. Thank you for being honest and real. I have complained a bit about the sometimes hype I feel on your weekly new release vids but you delivered on this. I do not like the style of this colored wax. It’s a basic 2 or 3 color striped lp. Boring as hell and a bit ugly. The price is the worst money grab yet I’ve ever seen on a record. Also I’m not just whining as one who gets left out. I actually have a very strong lead in getting one at retail price. A screeching haunt to that!! So thank you very much for saving me the absolute rage of buying this and seeing it opened. Thank you!!!!!
It seems it’s not what you’re physically getting for the $100. Mike, you don’t think this 900 copy release will garner collector status inflating the value? It’s The Rolling Stones, with a mega fan base.
Wow....Hundred dollars? I picked up an original pressing in a charity shop for a quid....sleeve a bit tatty and record a little scratchy on playback but it adds to the vinyl vibe
Months ago.. B4 RSD#1 the write-up claimed..." Hand Made 9 colors!" blah, blah, blah... I was convinced that it was going to be so gorgeous, that I was thinking about framing the wax, I have this frame that was made up to hold 12" picture discs, and I was going to showcase it.... I cant believe what we're looking at... I've been saying, that they're taking these "colored vinyls" a little to far.. but, they managed to keep most of us happy and intrigued with some of the Splattered versions and colored versions for Anniversary issues. (And keeping most of them "Limited") .BUT this!!??.. I was reminded of times when I was in the Video Game Business, and we'd open up a box pull out a case of games and I ordered, 2, 3 or 4 cases of a game..(10 to a case)... and sometimes would say..."Get the Salt & Ketchup!!... Cuz we're gonna be eating these!!" The Splattered Vinyl that was released today, (Black Friday) was better looking than this POS... I think RSD might have .... "Jumped the Shark" with this clearly a huge rip off of an item!! It's going to be hard to take them serious after this, Edsel!!

I ordered 5 and got 1. Glad I only got 1.
I bet its digitally sourced as well.
But.. but its in stereophonic! and the vinyl looks kinda cool.
It seems it’s not what you’re physically getting for the $100. Mike, you don’t think this 900 copy release will garner collector status inflating the value? It’s The Rolling Stones, with a mega fan base.
I paid $100 for the actual box set. With 2 lps mono and stereo plus a deluxe book and poster.
Wow....Hundred dollars? I picked up an original pressing in a charity shop for a quid....sleeve a bit tatty and record a little scratchy on playback but it adds to the vinyl vibe
Mick and the boys are obviously doing it tough right now and in need of a little fiscal assistance.
They have nothing to do with this reissue.
Hand poured wax spikes the price.
My main record store is Twist And Shout.
Cuz we're gonna be eating these!!"
The Splattered Vinyl that was released today, (Black Friday) was better looking than this POS...
I think RSD might have ....
"Jumped the Shark" with this clearly a huge rip off of an item!!
It's going to be hard to take them serious after this, Edsel!!
Ive got the mono boxset with most of the records not played so im good. Never even played let it bleed, they could at least put some outtakes or something.
Thanks Mike!
Crazy price man! It was at the top of my list but at that price it's off my list.
@NickCharles, please go out and buy one copy for me, i' willing to pay 200 Bucks for this copy, come on...you earn 100 Bucks...
Really want to know how it sounds Mike.....
I'll stick to my original UK pressing I got for an exorbitant 10 quid.
