It is based on trigonal planar since the central S has 3 charge centers. I imagine the IB would want you to say a little less than 120 degrees since the lone pair repels the bonded pairs making then a little closer.
Seoyeon Ryu They just show the dimensions of the molecule I.e. The dashed one shows the bond going into the screen, whereas the filled one shows it pointing out. Ch4 is tetrahedral, thus it is a 3D shape which is kind of hard to draw accurately in 2D - that's all
@iFawzi619 Charge center is easy to spot, hard to explain but I'll have a go. You know that methane has 4 electron pairs around central C atom = 4 charge centers The central C in CO2 has 2 charge centers (a double bond to the left, and a double bond to the right) BH3 has 3 charge centers around the B (= 3 x electron pairs) Its similar to a grouping of electron pairs OR Lone pair = 1CC, Bonded pair = 1CC, Double bond =1CC, Triple bond = 1CC. The charge centers repel. Ouch , tricky question buddy!
Easy answer: Under (certain) these conditions this has the lowest energy (this answer works for 95% of all science questions) Better answer: Boron under most conditions is stable with 8 valence e-, but 6 is possible in unusual conditions. Best answer: The whole Lewis , stable 8, stable 2 is soooooo outdated. The new theory is molecular hybridisation, this accounts for the stable 6. PS This B problem is beyond IB
Making use of video games to teach Science. You, sir, deserve a medal.
you're a pretty cool teacher! I liked how you show the molecules in the game

Thank you for the vid! I'm also doing some last minute reviewing for the Chem papers tmrw (: Lol: "Let's go for a swim -- wheeeee".
0:35 what are those obtuse triangle and weird dots drawn on the second lewis structure of CH4?

@diznikkatuan I agree! I am working on another video to fix this!

Hi, I hope you are doing well. O was wondering, why have you divided the number 8 by 2 when working out the electron pairs. why is it necessary?
Sir :>> You are really my life saver :>>> Thanks for replacing my teacher during this pandemic.
hehe
Isn't the structure of SO2 a resonance structure?

at 02:50 is the angle for SO2 then
IB accepts this - yup.
Im having trouble finding the bond angles of Threonine and the formula is C4H9NO3. Please help me out.
@enter19 hi, i used garry mod - its a sandbox program based on half life 2 - only $5 !
By order of increasing force of repulsion:
Bond pair - Bond pair < Bond pair - Lone pair < Lone pair - Lone pair.
104.5 is also true - both are acceptable by our IB overlords!
love this!!
@PeachBunPanda Thanks buddy!
I rate that
At 2:47, what angle does the bent structure in SO2 have?
LET'S GO FOR A SWIM.
good vid
105, 104.5 is acceptable
Haha that was random yet totally relevant.
wooooieee
The Heavy is a spy!
i wish this is how we learn in real life! lmfao this is UBER cute!
haha, neat
