  • After 3 holidays to only come back to frozen food that had been defrosted then re-frozen our son told us that when we go away the freezer door opens itself on a night (this only happens when were on holiday though) yeah right. So I decided to buy a door alarm and found they didn't exist with a timer delay SO I MADE ONE

I had exact the same idea with you but not your knowledge how to do it. :-) Really great work! Thanks for sharing!

I need one of these, where do I get one? I was 3D printing an alarm, but this looks better. I love the delay.

yeah, Amazon has alarms for like 13 bucks... definitely need a longer delay like 1-3 minutes

Hi Paul, sorry to say your the only person who showed interest in this and as it's been over 1 year since I made this I gave up trying to get any interest especially as my other business took off. I could probably find a think to the parts I bought if your interested in putting one together yourself. I do know other videos on youtube about these but they seem to just go off as soon as the door is opened and have a off switch but as you know people would just turn it off before opening the door and not re-arm it which wouldn't solve the problem. This however didn't solve our problem as our 18yr old just ripped it off the fridge the next time we went on holiday then swore it fell off. Let me know if you want a link to the parts. The only way I could mass produce these would be to buy in bulk then go ahead with some clever and exspensive martketing which I don't have the time to do.

      Hi Rob,
      Thanks for replying.
I've got a small utility room extension next to the kitchen (unheated, single skin bricked) and gets COLD out there this time of year.
Guess which kids always leave the door open?? That's right, all three of them!
I found your video whilst looking for a buzzer/alarm with a delay and the board would have been perfect.
Thank you for the offer of linking to the parts. I since found a pre-assembled kit on eBay for a tenner that includes a reed switch which should do the job nicely. Links below for anyone who might find them useful.
      cheers mate,
      Paul.
