Great video and review. An excellent opportunity to test properly and You’re not the first to say they prefer the standard over the race edition. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I’m a med/fast trail rider looking for something I can race sprint enduros and gncc on occasionally. I’ve been eyeing the new ktm xcw with the tbi. I’ve just now got around to checking out the beta stuff and I like what I see.
The 23's were supposed to have different rads to facilitate a tighter turning radius. Sounds like it's either not the case with this model or it didn't make enough of a difference to improve it. Or they didn't adjust the stops as far as the new rads are supposed to allow.
I was not aware of different rads. It feels about the same as previous years and the stops were all the way in on the 300rr race edition. The Xtrainer (different frame) had a better turning radius.
Take the stopping bolts out, and put a jam nut instead of a regular nut, it’s about half the width or you can put a washer until the forks don’t touch the radiators.
So did you end up liking the RR better than the Race Edition? Also, how does the Race Edition compare to the 23 KTM 300XC? BTW, first "Ride Day" I've ever seen that let the riders ever really test in conditions like you had. Good for Beta.
I was out on the island the week before the Beta demo days. Would have liked to try a 200 RR and a 390 RR-S if they had them. I have had 4 Beta bikes so far (480rr, 300 evo, and 2 x 300 rr). Would consider another one if only they had bikes at the dealers. KTM and Gas Gas are reasonably abundant but not much for Beta right now.
They had the 200rr race, two Xtrainers, a 350rr and the 300rr to try. Interesting Beta is short on bikes to sell, the other brands are offering reduced prices and incentives because they have too many bikes sitting.
The suspension feels 'stiff' because it's the RR race edition and it's meant to be raced at 100%. A race bike has suspension biased to going 10/10ths. It's not designed or aimed at trail rides. Anyone who just wants to ride trails and not race is better off with the base version because the suspension is more compliant. Unless they're a big porker of a guy and the stiffer suspension will feel more compliant to them but for most, the base version is more than enough bike. That's not unique to Beta but it's the same with every manufacturer. I know people like to think the KYB is 'better' and side by side with the base suspension it is, but not if you're not riding at 10/10ths. Horses for courses.
Yes, I agree it's set up stiff for that reason. I would need it to be re-valved. On the other hand my Sherco 300SE has the same KYB suspension and it's already valved great for the riding I do. Most people seem to want this race edition, mostly because of the KYB, it's sold out in Canada this year but you can still buy the standard 300rr.
@@PNWEnduro you think the 300SE is setup well until you have a KYB tuner revalve and you realize how much you were missing. Wasnt until 110hrs until I had my sherco revalved and kicking myself for waiting...game changer!
I have always found the KYB suspension on the four WR 450’s I have owned way too stiff for single track, even set up at their softest positions. I typically remove one spring and add a schrader valve and make one an air fork. I recently had one of the two WR’s I still had stolen and replaced it with a new Beta 300RR without the KYB suspension on the recommendation of the longtime Beta dealer near me. The type of trail riding I do is typical of what you do and I think the 300 with the KYB suspension is not a great match. The cachet of the KYB suspension is a big draw for a lot of riders but in the long run, for technical single track, and the odd fire road, it’s overkill. Thanks for the timely trail ride video. Cheers! From North Eastern Ontario.
The KYB suspension is quite versatile though so lot can be done with valving. Of course this can be expensive. It's set up much better for this type of riding on the Shercos. I've never heard of anyone converting them to air, interesting. Thanks for watching.
''Best looking for '23'' ? Could be, but I like them so much better when the rims have a red stripe, or even natural finish, the black looks like ####.
That motor just sounds so rideable and smooth.
Can’t wait to demo one, awesome trails.
Great video and review. An excellent opportunity to test properly and You’re not the first to say they prefer the standard over the race edition. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think the brake issue is due to the stock brake pads. My xtrainer was waaay toooo grabby. Changed the pads and the brakes are great.
Yeah could be, the Xtrainer I rode the brakes felt better.
I installed the Carbon pads on mine and its like a regular bike now. No more flipping over the bars lol
My 21 Xtrainer front brakes were grabby too, I put EBC reds on and its more linear (less grabby)
Yah conditions looked way better than I expected. This is a very cool bike and I am jealous of that new clutch design.
Sherco will have a similar clutch next year. In the meantime I did see that someone sells a dds conversion clutch for your bikes.
What is the difference between the new and old?
Awesome video, the 1st good video of a RE going through touph single track. My 200 RE due any day now😎
Thanks. I’ll have a video on the 200rr race edition out sometime in the next few weeks.

No matter what you're riding... This is a super fun trail
Looks fun for sure!
This video, makes me hungry to ride. Great looking trails, bike and great video. Hope life is well!

@@PNWEnduro Shame, this was something they were supposed to have addressed. Well then I guess it's back to bashing the rads in to clear the forks!
Take the stopping bolts out, and put a jam nut instead of a regular nut, it’s about half the width or you can put a washer until the forks don’t touch the radiators.
@Dane Kline even then it's not the best. Denting the top of the rads is a common mod to allow for more range in the turning radius.

@PNW Enduro i know lots of orange bikes, the red orange bikes were up to $3500 off.
Did you get a chance to ride the 200?
Yes, I rode them all. This was the day after the pubic demo so a small group had the whole day with the bikes.
@@PNWEnduro lucky bugger.
Thanks for the video and your thoughts, I’m having a hard time deciding between the Sherco 300 and the beta 300
The Sherco is a better bike overall IMO.

did you ride the RR? How did it compare if so I'm torn between the 250 rr and 250 rr racing, Ace video!
Yes, the RR had a little softer hit and the suspension was more plush.
@@PNWEnduro thanks appreciate it!

Any new bike is awsome!! Ktm Yamaha beta there all nice pick a color! An ride
Those conditions might favour the Sachs forks...anything rocky and harder hits the kyb will out perform the Sachs....
You know if the 300 race had stock gearing? I have one on order, and stock 14/48 seems like it would be tall for this type of trail.
Stock gearing.
Juts pop a 13T front sprocket on, although the 300 has plenty of low end torque.
Cool test. Is this Vancouver Island?
The bike is nice enough, but that trail ! ❤❤❤❤
Im not surprised at that slow speed the std version will feel nicer after all the race edition is exactly that …. A Race Edition
Have you ever ridden the 350 version ? Looking at one or a KTM 2024 model when it arrives
I rode the 2023 350rr and will have a video on that in the next few weeks.
@@PNWEnduro Thanks, looking forward to watching, keep up the awesome vids..
How it compares with your sherco?
Waiting on my 300 race edition, hope i did the best choice.
Both have great motors. The Sherco handles better and comes with more for close to the same price (fan, FMF pipe).
Do you use a helmet mic to get that crisp, clear audio? I just got an Insta360 and it sounds like a wind turbine xD
Yes, I use the GoPro media mod which has a built in microphone.
@@PNWEnduro Nice! Looking forward to the 300 4T vids
Trying to watch some of your videos I might have missed it but you never tell us where your even riding lol that by design?
I don't post locations publicly for several reasons but you can send me a message on social media for info.

Wow just wow, we got another foot on snow in northern ontario but the forecast is 18C for next week so 4 feet of snow will melt FFASTTT 🤣
I think we are done with the snow but lots of rain here.
