DerHesse, i did not suggest tatra's look like beetles, but I do suggest that concept is not dissimilar re rear engine, air cooled, as jamie wallace has recognised. Would any of porsche's 'harbingers' come about if Porsche family members had not, in the 30's, visited Ledwinka to discuss design and concept, and later, posthumously, paid a sum of 3,000,000 euros for 'purloining' design criteria. Evidence based from history legally. Source-internet. If you want to discuss validity, then i guess everything here is questionable and should be subject to disambiguation.
Not even close, we have 8 second 1/4 mile Bugs running on the street every Saturday night here in Southern California. Most have 300hp plus and a few of the new breed have twin turbo beasts running around 500hp in VW'S with Carbon fiber honeycomb pans, fenders, trunk and engine lids and one with a carbon fiber body that's under 1000lbs as it stands with fuel, driver and about 470hp hooked up to a heavily massaged dual clutch tranny from something that works unreal. Best time 7.82 @ 173mph in the 1/4 mile on his 4th run the only time he has taken it to the drags? He's a street racer here in Los Angeles.
First time I took my bug to the drags I was getting 14.6 out of it. I've done ALOT since and I'll probably go back once I get my rear suspension sorted. instagram @lucithebug
I met a guy at a car show here in FL that had an air cooled Porsche flat 6 in his super beetle. The install looked like the factory did it. It was quiet, but very fast and won the autocross that day against a lot of corvettes and 911's. I was very impressed.
there was a local beetle converted to a front mounted v8 - with a trailer. I could not work out what the trailer was for, until I spotted two exhaust tubes running into it. The whole trailer was purely as a muffler. Took the car to a drag strip, took the trailer off and boom...
wunderschönes teil, passt alles toll zusammen, farbe, felgen, sound und vor allem der schriftzug " luftgekühlt". Da kannst stolz drauf sein, der Hammer das Eisen:))))
You should Check out the Mighty Car Mods "Miss Daisy" it's a 1974 Super beetle, Started with 23.9kw (32hp) by the time they finished with it and the EJ25 from a Subaru Forester went in it had 239kw (320hp) and a custom built Garret GTX3067 turbo. Not bad by increasing the power 10x the original power and it's road legal still cruising around NSW Australia and looks like a standard Beetle. just do a youtube search for "How to build a Sleeper [Feature Length] by Mighty Car Mods.
It was one of their WORST EVER SHOWS too! When you can so EASILY pull 300hp+ out of a bug engine (and even retain a bit of reliability at that level), why the hell would you convert it to a Subaru? Adding radiator and cutting the body and transaxle mate issues... it was just fantastically stupid...
Alimin Juna theyre unreliable for idiots thats dont know what theyre doing. obviously u cant go around with 300+hp with stock internals. there are bugs running 11 second 1/4 miles without turbos
That is a very fast Beetle. But here in Norway there is a purple 1954 Oval Beetle that is known as the Skinne Beetle. It is road legal and runs low 8s.
Nice ride! I should be down to around the 12 sec mark in my ride. instagram @lucithebug Daily driver :) (clutch kills my leg though when stuck in traffic lol)
Can some one please tell me what engine this is as i want to put a suburu engine in my imported vw crew cab and i need to buy the adaptor plate and more importantly get it past it s uk iva or Sva tests.
very first car has had a half ass job on the rear exhaust cutouts , why didn't they smooth them little factory cutouts so that it wouldn't look ducky and stupid
Not the fastest but one of the nicest. And fast enough for the streets or the ring anyway. Looks like the subframe of an entirely different car as well, making it probably handle very very nice as well.
High 15s time for a bug (street legal or not) is not very fast. We raced some 25 years ago with bugs in the single carburetted class. 14,7s was the record with a 140-150hp engine we had. All street legal by the way. A time like 15,9s would be possible with a heavy body and slightly over 100hp.
I doubt it is the fastest, I remember a Beetle at Santa Pod years ago that had a V8 hanging out the back. I think it was a 302 cu in. It had wheelie bars and a plastic window in the floor so you could see where you are gong while the front was in the air. Plenty of road going V8 Beetles on youtube including a 6.6 ltr blown V8.
Bullshit! I had a '64 20 years ago that would pull 12.9's all day long without even a turbo OR EFI. That was NA running 48mm Delorto's... My shit was WAY faster...
I WILL RACE HIM!!!!! 69 bajabug 31 BFG'S street legal/ insured Built honda B20Z motor mendeola trans - ALL MOTOR- smoky figure 8's any one. haha lol- honda crx wiring harness and dash cluster- open the door and deet da da da deet. crv seats and cup holder. acura integra steering column and steer wheeel--- I cant keep a kennedy vw clutch assembly alive for 5,ooo miles- any ideas for a long lasting clutch????
probably not close to the fastest road legal beetle, as they're easy to engine swap with for example subaru and porsche engines, and some people go as far as placing huge engines like V8s in the front..
Not even close to the fastest street legal bug , but cool too watch :)
agree
no doubt, lol
true, it's the fastest illegal vw bug
Yep, he wouldnt make it here over the drink
My dad's bug is pretty quick!
Ferdinand Porsche was just a genius!.
does hans ledwinka get any credit? tatraplane?
I'm glad someone mentioned that.
The Nazis completely stole the Tatra design, right down to the engine.
Ferdinand just copied someone elses homework.

he was also a nazi

P&Wengineering you got a vid ?
Or a link
P&Wengineering hello how can I put some horse power to my vw 1600 engine?? thanx
Turn it into an 1835.

The vintage cars are the BEST!!!!
Very Nice . What size Motor you got.
what engine does it have? is it the orginal one but modified or is it swapped?
Original imposible xD
700 hp Porsche gt2
It says "200ps" so it could be an original VW 1.6 of 1.8 engine. I've seen 300+hp beetles with a VW boxer engine, so it's possible
I watched the races that day...
Most sleeper car drivers lied about there power it was definitely more than 200 hp
Actually with it's 1/4 times it's probably under 200hp. A 200hp bug will smoke just about any production car made in the quarter mile.
The old guy is having a blast though. Pretty cool. JC.
What is the name of that kind of fender style?
KERSCHER BODYKIT
What year is it a 73 or 76. Aside from the enlarged fenders
there was a local beetle converted to a front mounted v8 - with a trailer. I could not work out what the trailer was for, until I spotted two exhaust tubes running into it. The whole trailer was purely as a muffler. Took the car to a drag strip, took the trailer off and boom...
What year is that VW Beetle?
Sweet looking Bug...and runs great too ...!!
What is that colour? It is stunning!
........ Blue
Just Red nice

Great set of rims. Nice pattern.
There’s no school like the old school ....these and ‘pepper pots’ suit Bugs to a ‘T’ 😎
We know it, Herby is still alife!
Herby i dont know of a beetle named herby but i do know of a beetle named herbie
*herbie
@@pokerfaceproductions1010 You are so funny
Gm ht 444 h. License plate. And why are the turn signals in the bumpers ?
That’s factory
It is official, Herbie is still alive!
Can the original air cooled engine have a turbo added to it or is that not the original engine.
Its a VW /Porsche Type 4 engine !Specs are given above

old school dictates..unless its all VW it"s not a VW.

John Moore cause the subaru engine will make the power reliably. A beetle engine might explode making that much power
Alimin Juna theyre unreliable for idiots thats dont know what theyre doing. obviously u cant go around with 300+hp with stock internals. there are bugs running 11 second 1/4 miles without turbos
Adam The Aussie
you spelt mighty car moron wrong
Whatever made you suggest this is the fastest bug?
Watch the vid how to build a sleeper on youtube. It passed a porsche 911 (modern model idk which year) by around 3 secs!
That is awsome vw beetle is a well built machine way to go
Where can I find widebody fenders like this?
Look for Kerscher Bodykit
What is this wheel american racing?
That is a very fast Beetle. But here in Norway there is a purple 1954 Oval Beetle that is known as the Skinne Beetle. It is road legal and runs low 8s.
Stock engine or aftermarket?
cvdzijden - Supercar Videos Do you have any info about this build, anywebsites, emails etc?
my daily driver is at 525whp and 510tq ... 6.3s in the 1/8 on threaded DOT tires and complete down to the floor mats...
Its running a VW engine with a stroker kit and sidewinder exhaust.
Not by a long shot... Check out Skinne's vw (roadlegal)... That will get you in the ballpark..
very first car has had a half ass job on the rear exhaust cutouts , why didn't they smooth them little factory cutouts so that it wouldn't look ducky and stupid
What Volkswagen Beetle model is this?
1302
Grandpa driving!
does it matter?
which model is this
What year is this bug?
Cool video ,Thumbs Up and Liked !
But how is it even idling like stock?! I like that kind of engine build!
Not even near the fastest in the world. Fastest does 8 seconds in the 1/4 mile this one does 15s very slow it’s almost stock
Fastest VW Bug __ NOOO...
Cool__ YES ...Nicely done for a Timer
Is that thing Subaru Powered?
Man , this is one fast bug!
NICE! wish I never sold my 1956 vw running a 1750cc with cam and a huge two barrel carb!
This bug would go a bit faster if he ran it solo though...
Nope. It's not.
Sounds like a subaru engine or Porsche engine. This is not stock.
How awsome was the runs.
It was close keeping to the chevy.
The engine is called VW type 4, the basic is from VW Porsche 914
Come to Southern California ! street air cooled VWs are common here and quicker than this bug ( mostly legal ).
Where at in socal and what days
I swear I smelled that rubber he burned off the line for a second. lol
probably not. 200 ps is pretty low. there are some with over 500hp
um, we need a cockpit video please!
pov ?
Not the fastest but one of the nicest.
And fast enough for the streets or the ring anyway.
Looks like the subframe of an entirely different car as well, making it probably handle very very nice as well.
THATS A BIG FATT NO!!!! NOT EVEN CLOSE!!! NICE BUG THOUGH!!! SWEET RIDE!!!
By the way that was blue smoke when he took off at the start
Indeed he was Alvin. VW power !
Specs?
No its not. The Norwegian built Skinne-Beetle is roadlegal, has around 1000hp and doing 1/4 mile just above 8 sec
What was he running in that thing.
Lee Scott probably a Subaru motor.
How about it dad, care to give that little Doodle Bug a Workout? I'll go easy on ya........
A man of culture
Be serious will ya. 👍👍
Is that Karl Marx driving the vw?
maybe, this Beetle kept him alive all over the years :-)
That sound!!
I think there is a faster one out there but Herbie would be proud non the less!
Nice sleeper💯
VW Beetle with Fuel Injection, bb!

azn form Street outlaws might be quicker
Azn is definitely quicker
Most Definitely.....but it's not street legal.
Brian Murphy With a set of drag radials it is street legal.
sher854 if that dung beetle can kick a lambos ass it sure as hell can kick this ones ass
Dung beetle would crush this chatterbox.

We're talking actual VWs with aircooled flat 4 motors though.
The paint is sweet too
I know it's not nearly "the fastest" but dang it sounds and looks nice.
It does .
Sounds like someone slapped a Subaru engine in the back of that bug. That's not a VW anymore, it's a Subaru with VW body.
Type 4 VW motor according to other comments
Carl Draper yeah, that's what I said "sounds like". I had my doubts.
Well the only reason it sounds like that is because of that big single tailpipe.
Bullshit! I had a '64 20 years ago that would pull 12.9's all day long without even a turbo OR EFI. That was NA running 48mm Delorto's... My shit was WAY faster...
That car is just crazy
what's crazy?? it only ran 15 seconds in the 1/4.. mini vans stock can do better..

Definitely not the fastest... but quite possibly the best sleeper.
probably not close to the fastest road legal beetle, as they're easy to engine swap with for example subaru and porsche engines, and some people go as far as placing huge engines like V8s in the front..
now that's what a call a turbo bug
Wow fast bitch i must say il think it is honda engine in this bobble

Not even on the radar for fastest street legal Bug. Nice looking car though.
Rocket Beetle! xD
he should race azns dung bettle...
To answer the question in the title, no.
Nice little car, but there are bugs running around that embarrass late model muscle and sports cars.
love that car.....
My bug does high 11s low 12s and it’s nowhere near the fastest street legal bug
He didn't claim he was the fastest. He just asked a question. He getting views..
Definitely not the fastest street legal bug but still pretty quick.
