everyone is entitled to their opinion...if two people look at a glass of water that is half full and one person sees at as half empty..neither is wrong...."whitney houston's cover of "i will always love you"...she took that and made it her own(she changed the arrangment/melody/tempo/ singing key)....Lauren hill "can't take my eyes off of you"(she changed the arrangment/melody/temp/singing key)....luther vandros duet with martha wash..."i who have nothing"...they took it and made it their own(they changed the arrangment/melody/tempo remains downtempo...singing keys)...in order for an artist to take a song and make it their own they have to do something that changes the original song or have the unique abilty to sing the song in a different key...the arrangment, the melody/tempo...something major....diana ross did " my turn "and then aretha did the same song....both artists covered the same song.....the melody and arrangement/tempo are the same in both songs...but aretha took this song and made it her own...aretha was in her hey day and at the top of her game...this worked without a change in melody or arrangement because aretha is a soul artist and recorded it in her hey day and sings in a different key n register than diana diana is a pop diva and has a totally different singing style....sara vaughan has covered mistry (its her on utube) the arrangment/tempo is the same but she changed up the melody slightly....it really worked because sarah had a unique singing style/charisma in her voice and sang it in a totally different key.....there is a clip here on utube tina marie doing s tribute to smokey..(LADY TEENA MARIE serenades SMOKEY ROBINSON)....ooh baby baby....she did not record this song so it would not be considered a cover...but if you view the clip and listen to her version....she did not change the arrangement/melody/tempo/she does however sing the song in a different key....but becasue of tina's unique singing stlye she made the song her own...there are artist with the abilty to do this.....Meli'sa morgon covered prince's "do me baby in 1985....arrangment/melod are the same...she tweeked the tempo just a bit but she made this song her own with just her vocals.....tweet and natalie are not two artists with this ability.....Natalie cole and tweet covered daydreaming and neither changed the arrangement/melody/tempo...NOTHING or sang the song in a different key... how in the hell is that taking a song and making it your own??...that is rhetorical....i think i have given enough clear xamples to make my point...if u happen to like this version...that is because you are a tweet fan not because she took the song and made it her own(if you can not hear that then you dont have a clear understanding of music,arrangments,melodytempo etc)....i dont dislike tweets version i am just pointing out the obvious....natalie cole had just covered the same song and also did not change the arrangment/melody/tempo...if u want to cover a song that u like....great but get with a producer who knows/understands music(r.kelly,quincy jones)...explain to him what you want to accomplish and create something original....Tina turner covered her own song (tina's wish)..she updated it by changing the arrangment and tempo although the melody is the same....they are two different versions of the same song but they display the artists talent n creativity n ear for music....this is was a truly talented ARTIST does...I give tweet credit she attempted to alter the temp slightly...but failed....at its core this is the same version that aretha recorded....natalie also attempted..but failed as both of these covers are to close to the original versions...if i had to say wich artist covered it best my nod would go to natalie simply because she was pushing 60 when she recorded her version n looks n sounds great!!!....to bring my point home....google the song "try a litte tenderness....listen to the cover done by bing crosby...then listen to the version covered by otis redding.....otis's version is how you cover a song...he not only changed the temp he mixed it...it started off dwn tempo then went to mid temp n ended up tempo and he changed the arrangement...that is what a truly talented artist does....with all that said....how did tweet make this song her own when all she did was sing the original version that had already been recorded by the queen of soul in her hey day???

I love Tweet and she did a good job on this rendition, but it seems to be missing something. Maybe, it's because I've listened to Aretha Franklin's version all my life and believe that there isn't a soul on this planet that could sing it better than she.
