That's a little over the top. He didn't half turn out some dross as well mind. A lot of the lyrics are very basic, bordering on the immature. I can't believe that this is same band that produced the wonderful 'a new world record' only four years earlier. At this point they were no longer taken seriously.
Love this group. ELO had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's & mixed modern rock pop songs with classical overtones. Jeff Lynne wrote most of their songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Roll Over Beethoven", "Showdown", "Telephone Line", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Evil Woman", "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Do Ya", "Rockaria!", "Turn To Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Mr. Blue Sky", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Shine A Little Love", "Confusion", "Hold On Tight", "Twilight" etc.
All great! I vote for Telephone Line next, though, just for contrast. Although Mr. Blue Sky would be another really good one for them to react next to.
John Lennon actually referred to ELO as the "sons of the Beatles" which was quite a tribute. Jeff Lynne (the driving force of the band and lead singer) ended up producing George Harrison's albums and joined him as part of the Traveling Wilburys.
The thing about Jeff Lynne is that sounds and looks just as good now! If you want to see a mind blowing live performance, Telephone Line at Wembley from about 5 years ago is phenomenal
This group was 100% gold throughout my entire childhood & this is only one example of it! They have so many songs to choose from, it will definitely provide plenty of reaction material - from lighter hits like this to the rock out sound of 'Don't Bring Me Down' to soundtrack hits such as 'Xanadu' in collaboration with Olivia Newton John & The Tubes.
Mr. Blue Sky. Happiest groovy song ever. ELO is fabulous and every song is different but always catchy and musical in the best sense. Telephone Line after that but you really can’t go wrong with any of their songs if you want something to pick up your mood.
This was one of their nods to disco, along with another song from the same album: "Shine a Little Love" They definitely have a harder rock sound, with classical vibes.
Telephone Line, Strange Magic, Evil Woman, Livin' Thing, Don't Bring Me Down, Mr. Blue Sky and Xanadu with Olivia Newton-John. Lead singer Jeff Lynne was also a member of The Traveling Wilburys....a super group featuring five superstar performers. Songs to check out with them would be End of the Line and Handle With Care
ELO always been a fav since the 70's, esp Jeff Lynn. Jeff pretty much wrote all ELO songs and imo i like him better now since he broke away from the his original members. He still does many ElO songs but with a group of musicians he chose. Great writer not just songs he does, but has written for many artists.
The other tracks such as Evil Woman. Jeff Lynn was also a member of the Travelling Wilburys which also had Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison ( The Beatles),lBob Dylan. The ELO have had many hits all written and performed by Jeff Lynn.
Great reaction guys, love me some ELO❤🔥🎸 Here's another suggestion in case you're interested. "Electric Light Orchestra - Mr. Blue Sky (Official Video)" If this doesn't have you smiling and dancing in your seat, nothing will. I think this is one of the most cheerful and happy sounding rock songs you'll ever hear.🤔
"Discovery" is a great album, this is one of four Top 40 hits from it. Have the vinyl album and all four singles on 45. And found the album on cd a few years back!
Jeff Lynne worked with the Beatles in the 60's and ELO were on Xanadu tracks and I love to request ' Don't Bring Me Down ' and you did play the classic 'Telephone Lines'. So many great gifts. Thanks again. D from Australia
Fire on High, Turn to Stone, Do Ya, Evil Woman, Strange Magic, All Over the World, Living Thing, Sweet Talking Woman,Showdown, Mr. Blue Sky for a start.
theres a concert from 2017 in wembley.the singer jeff lynne, also the main songwriter,is a sorce of infintive ideas.he wrote songs for more then 50 other artists.a more rocking song:rockn roll is king.something to sqeeze your heart:telephone line.something happy: mister blue sky. have fun :)
This is one of their earlier hits obviously dance influenced but most of their songs are more influenced by heavy orchestral and production! Lots of more rock with orchestra involved
Fun Fact: Jeff Lynne, Leader of ELO owned a Mansion called Walsh Hall which is located near Meriden (Centre of England) and I grew up in the Village, He ended up selling the Mansion to UB40’s Robin Campbell, Not sure who owns it now though!
ELO is all the brain child of Jeff Lynne, a brillant musician and producer. One thing about his music you will find, is that "Orchestra," is not just a title for the band, he puts a ton of orchestral music in his stuff. One of my favorite songs by them is a purely Instrumental tune called "Fire on High," which I fully recommend.
There are like 4 distinct eras of this band. Electric Light Orchestra who then shortened it to ELO to Jeff Lynnes ELO now. Started highly stringed progressive. Then became more commercial but still using strings. Then a few synth based albums and try to hear a string. The final version is Jeff Lynnes ELO. More laid back with a few strings. One constant. JEFF LYNNE: writer, producer, arranger, lead vocalist and guitarist.
Brilliant seeing u react to ELO they have so many great songs Mr Blue Sky ,Don't bring me down Diary of Horace Wimp and my own personal favorite is Ticket to the moon 😊😊😊
I love so many ELO songs, but this one is my fav. If you time traveled backwards and found yourself in a disco with this song playing…If your feet don’t start compelling you to move to the dance floor and find a foxy lady to dance with… then see a mortician, cuz you might be dead inside. I believe the lyrics to the song are close to this in meaning btw. I think they are about someone that needs to catch the last train of the night, but he’s met someone and has a feeling there is something special happening, thus conflicting him. In the end it sounds like his choice was easy and he goes with the romantic adventure. 😍
ANY ELO reaction gets a thumbs up from me they are one of my top 5 groups of all time every song they sing even if it has sad lyrics somehow manages to make you feel good .. !! so many to react to. "Living thing" "Turn to stone" "mr Blue sky" "Telephone line" soo many others.
More ELO: "Roll Over Beethoven" (full 8-minute version); "Mr. Blue Sky" "Turn to Stone" "Rockaria" "Evil Woman" "Living Thing" "Tightrope" "All Over the World" "Do Ya" "Can't Get It Out of My Head" "Strange Magic" "Hold on Tight" "Rock and Roll is King" Some of their deep cuts are also great: "Fire on High" (an instrumental); "Poker" "So Fine" "Across the Border" "Night in the City"
Love ELO! So many great songs. This is one of my top 5 favorites by them. Evil Woman and Shine a Little Love are way up there on my list as well. I like most of their songs though 😊
Tons of hits from this group-this was their foray in disco-in addition to the songs mentioned below-one classic Standin In The Rain is a must hear complete with thunder sound effects and violins sounding like a rainstorm-it's the complete opposite from their upbeat classic sunny Mr. Blue Sky that'll' get you boppin. Another must see video is their hit All Over The World-with people around the world dancing.
Everybody was doing disco/rock in the late '70s. When ELO released the album "Discovery" that this was on in 1979, critics called it "Disco Very". Not their typical sound, and they only really did it for one album.
ELO (Jeff Lynne - a multi-intrumentalist, singer, writer, producer) had more top 40 hits in the US and UK between 1972 and 1986 than any other band. They accounted for a third of all the top 40 hits. Jeff Lynne has written and produced for over 50 artists including George Harrison, The Beatles, Tom Petty, Take That, Bryan Adams, and many, many more. He was also a founding member of The Travelling Wilburys and was credited by Roy Orbison for restarting his career. It still amazes me how so few people either know about ELO or Jeff Lynne.
Brian Jones played sitar on this. Their golden era was when they recorded Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main Street. They also have some excellent concert footage from more recent years.
Jeff Lynn lead singer, writer, producer was in the Traveling wilburys with Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison and Bob Dylan. Jeff Lynn produced George Harrison and the Beatles and others. He is still living .Take a look at"" Mr. Blue Sky "and many other hit songs. thank you
They aren't a full Orchestra, but they have traditional orchestar instruements a light Orchestra. And they blend in Electric Guitars, Electic Keyboards, Synthesizers - Electric Light Orchestras.
Check out from 2017 or 18 Telephone Line at Wembley Stadium. Great song by ELO and you will see the laser light show and space shop above the stage they are often remembered for as well. Mr. Blue sky is also a great song by them. Chees 🍻👍
As much as I like this track.....ELO Mr.Blue Sky is the track to hear......all the rest are fantastic but Blue Sky is just simply a classic among classics.
You need to really check out more E.L.O. especially "El Dorado (overture) and "Can't Get It Out Of My Head". Those two need to be done back to back for they go right into each other. Also need to do "Tightrope". A more rockin' song by them is "Poker".
It's one of the great Progrock bands of the seventies. They are all great upto these days with for example Nightwish. There are more such bands: Queen, Uriah Heep, Beatles.
If you want to hear the quintessential ELO song, react to their 1976 classic, *"Tightrope".* But yeah, they have tons of great tracks, most of which came before this Disco-influenced song from '79. I love, "Last Train To London", but it is not a Top 30 ELO song for me.
IT IS FUNNY I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS SONG THIS MORNING AND I WANTED TO HEAR IT I ALWAYS LIKE IT HAS A GREAT BEAT I LOVE THE VIOLINS. E.LO. ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITE GROUPS. BTW I LIKE HOW SHE MOVES TO THE SONG .
Lynn would go on to produce, George Harrison post Beatles, the last two Beatle songs made from teo home Demos from John Lennon, The Traveling Wilburys, featuring Harrison, Dylan, Petty, Roy Orbison...then relaunches ELO at 70 years old, and sells out Wembly Stadium....oh yes was a staple of the ,70s . Genious.
ELO is a progressive rock band , Jeff Lynn helpt George Harris Tom petty bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, you want to hear good jams showdown , it’s a living thing , awesome band they still play today .
I feel like every ELO album was experimental in some way. That was Jeff Lynne's nature and part of his genius. Discovery was my least favorite of his experiments. LTTL was one of the more palatable tracks on Discovery. I remember being really disappointed when the album was released--I was 16. But plenty of ELO fans love this album, and Jeff has earned the benefit of the doubt from me. Most of what came before and after was brilliant. You'll get plenty of excellent suggestions. Here are some sleepers that folks might request less often: Rockaria!, Big Wheel, Ma Ma Ma Belle, 10538 Overture, Fire on High, Four Little Diamonds, Livin' Thing, Summer and Lightning, and anything from the Eldorado album. Also, you can't go wrong with the Traveling Willburys. Have fun!
One of the very few 'disco' styles they did. You should try 'Tightrope' or Shangri-la' to get a great feel of their orchestral style. 'Do ya' is more rock riff with orchestra. Nobody sounded like ELO and nobody has since. They made many, many great songs. If this is your first listening, your minds will definitely be expanded by their sound. You will have a great journey with Jeff Lynn.
Have you ever heard of the Travelling Wilburys? Made up of George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty , and (the lead singer/composer of ELO) Jeff Lynn.
Jeff Lynn the Lead Singer and Writer is an absolute Musical genius!
That's a little over the top. He didn't half turn out some dross as well mind. A lot of the lyrics are very basic, bordering on the immature. I can't believe that this is same band that produced the wonderful 'a new world record' only four years earlier. At this point they were no longer taken seriously.

He truly is
Absolutely!!

All great! I vote for Telephone Line next, though, just for contrast. Although Mr. Blue Sky would be another really good one for them to react next to.
I was going to say "Rockaria" or ""Showdown", just to confide them lol.
John Lennon actually referred to ELO as the "sons of the Beatles" which was quite a tribute. Jeff Lynne (the driving force of the band and lead singer) ended up producing George Harrison's albums and joined him as part of the Traveling Wilburys.
Jeff and George co-founded The Traveling Wilburys.
This band is a hit machine!

Just not a good representation of their genius. It was mediocre at best.
I call their music Classical rock.
What a Gem!😊 I absolutely love ELO! They have so many great songs!

No two songs are ever the same with ELO but they are all classics
This is true, yet whenever they released a single you knew it was E.L.O.!
Fire on High, Turn to Stone, Do Ya, Evil Woman, Strange Magic, All Over the World, Living Thing, Sweet Talking Woman,Showdown, Mr. Blue Sky for a start.
They have a lot of great songs this song is early in their career. My personal favorite is Telephone Line with Evil Woman a close second 😊

ELO 🔥🔥🔥 love these guys! They never disappoint!
ELO has a song that was in guardians of the galaxy 2. I believe called Mr blue sky.
I always had to get up and dance to ELO
Electric instruments + a light orchestra = Electric Light Orchestra... The best band to come out of Birmingham!! 🙂...Do "Telephone Line"
Please do "Telephone Line" live at Wembley Stadium...you wont be disappointed!
Some more of their popular songs I suggest are, Don't Bring Me Down, Rock N' Roll is King, Evil Woman, Livin' Thing, and Turn to Stone.
Hard to go wrong with ELO & you guys are often not wrong - mostly right, in fact.

This was Jeff Lynn's go at disco, the album it came from is Discovery, Disco-very
I would call this soft rock

Their name has nothing to do with what happened in concerts, so that’s misleading.

G'day Guys! this track is certainly "disco" but to get the other side of ELO try "Don't Bring Me Down" a solid rock number! Cheers!
This is a belter of a track
She’s gonna make it after all. 😮. When are you guys gonna learn the sixty’s dances?
Greatest Rock Band in the World 🌍 with Rock Legend Jeff Lynne at the helm 🎸🥁🎹🎼😎👍!!!!!!
One of my favorite group. Suggest Telephone Line live at Wembley Stadium 2017. ❤
Probably their best piece and my favourite is Mr Blue Sky. But all of their music is fantastic.
The lyrics are the secret, listen with your partner and fall in love again.
If there was a fifth Beatle, his name would be Jeff Lynne.
Billy Preston was the fifth Beatle.
Jeff Lynne produced two Beatles songs! If George Martin and others can be called "fifth Beatle", then Jeff certainly can too!
I have never heard this song, but as soon as I did, first thought was, so, Hall & Oats sampled this for can't go for that
