So which other states have jumpjets?
$1.5T is almost half the US federal budget for 1 year, or about twice the Pentagon's annual budget.
That cost is projected over something like 40+ years. Though it is a waste of money probably no more so than anything else in the bloated military budget.

actually there will be assembly lines in austraila and italys first domestic made 35 rolled out not long ago lockeed will be setting assembly plant up in japan also there is going to be tons of these rolling out in the near future
Matt Slattery The price dropped nicely when the production rate got up to 50 per year, and dropped some more when it increased to 60. We will see a another nice drop when the production rate increases to over 100 per year. On the other hand Boeing is struggling to build 24 Super Hornets per year....
The U.S. currently makes them.

Reporter clearly did not do her do diligence on the research. 1.5 Trillion is incorrect it is $980 million to run the entire program for 50 years this includes R&D, manufacturing, testing, spare parts all the way down to fuel use. It is also not $100 million per plane its more along the line of $80 once production is in full swing which is cheaper than an F-18 or F-16

Current program with R&D and all is 300ish billion and another 200 billion for procurement of all 2400ish airframes. one thing worth noting that the only reason this is "the most expensive weapons program ever" is because no one has ever before tallied the entire cost for any weapons system over its projected lifetime.
To give a little reference a third party think-tank recently estimated that to maintain our current fleet of legacy fighters out to the 2050's would cost a whopping $4 Trillion

Ну и да, открою Вам секрет, который знает любой технарь, кто знаком с Теорией Отказов - схема с двумя подъемными и одним подъемно-маршевым двигтелем - менее надежна и менее экономична, чем схема с одним движком и вентилятором. А когда будете восторгаться 141м - не забудьте такую "мелочь", как внутреннее размещение оружия в F-35 и его огромный запас внутреннего топлива, дающий ему беспрецедентный для однодвигательной машины, да еще и вертикалки, боевой радиус.
