Debts usually die with the decedent. No assets in the estate or not enough, it's written off. Remaining family unless it's a spouse and both their names are on a debt are not directly responsible for their deceased family members' debt as they did not sign or incur them.

His parents wouldn't get anything anyway. Unless there's a Will stating otherwise, spouse automatically inherits the estate. In the event there is no spouse, then adult children, eldest first. For example, should anything happen to my father I would get everything as I am his eldest child, and if it was before the 1950s, inheritance law still favored sons over daughters. Of course, I wouldn't do anything or make any decisions without talking to my sister. As far as I'm concerned, she has as much right as I to decide things regarding our father's estate
