Japanese private onsen ripoff 🇯🇵

  • 🇻🇳 This is part two of the private onsen video, go check out part one if you haven't seen it!
    After touring the private onsen room and taking a soak, Max and I were ready for dinner. It started to get fishy when I called the front office for a menu, and they never brought it until I called again. But in the end we were able to order dinner. Dinner wasn't too bad! 500k VND (~$21 USD)/set, and the set was quite good. However, it really started going downhill when we ordered the "special" dessert... needless to say it was a ripoff. Come and see.

    I agree. If they charge $300 USD per night, there should be more promptness with their services. If I pay $50/night, I would not mind, but for that price in Vietnam, they should be more attentive.

    The price charged for the room is similar to a high-end onsen ryokan in Japan. HOWEVER, breakfast and dinner are normally included. At this place, they charge for meals?? Ridiculous.

    This sad place is not the only one in Vietnam.
    Most of the hotels covered in the good-looking facade. But the reality the food and the service suck is because the people don't have the skills and the attitude to make what they sell worth your money.

    • @Feathertail2205
      @Feathertail2205 Рік тому +1

      Instead of focusing on what they (Vietnamese) have always done best, it's sad that things are shifting to copy the luxury of developed countries instead with little substance to back up that direction. Hence you're much better off partaking in local service and foods than marketed tourism. They understand what's really at stake (their self-owned business and liveliness) and what they're good at.

      @@chrismixlewis Welcome to reality in Vietnam and Vietnamese ways of providing services..The rule of thumb for everyone including Vietnamese citizens is to ask for the price of everything before you eat in a Vietnamese restaurant where there is no listed price. Be on the look out for potential scammers when going out on the streets there. Also ask when you are in doubt. Having lived there in Vietnam for three years or so, have you been charged more for the same items than typical Vietnamese citizens at local street food places in traditional open air Vietnamese
      markets? I personally have not been a victim of price gouging since I first returned to Sài Gòn, Vietnam in 1991, but other Việt Kiều did.

    • @Feathertail2205
      @Feathertail2205 Рік тому +3

      @@Religious_man So what if they want ice cream at night? If the establishment can't or have a hard time accommodating that, then they should make it clear somewhere that they stop serving certain foods at a certain time. Or mention that certain foods are out for the day when customers first inquire about the menu. Also it didn't seem like they were apparent with what's supposed to be in the "special" dessert of the day through the phone, so of course it's going to come as a surprise, good or bad. Make things clear to set customer expectations accordingly. If a place can stick to that habit, then they'll get no problems in the first place. It's something else if this place wasn't supposed to be a luxurious experience, but it set the customers' expectations too high to sell a fancy image without clear communication about their service, and end up underdelivering when all's said and done.

    Why don't you set your camera to 50 or 25 FPS to eliminate light flicker? Vietnam's power grid runs at 50 Hz shooting at 60 or 30 FPS produces flicker

    • @chrismixlewis
      @chrismixlewis  3 роки тому +1

      The 60fps is much more important to get a good thumbnail. Helps reduce motion blur. Every little bit helps casue I don’t typically get to stop to do a thumbnail. All straight out of camera

    • @DougWinfield
      @DougWinfield 3 роки тому

      @@chrismixlewis What camera do you use? Usually the frame rate is separate from the actually exposure time so might be shooting at 1/125 second (or some other time) regardless of FPS. For your daytime, natural light shoots flickers no problem, but indoor and nighttime, artificial light videos would be improved by matching frame rate to line rate, IMHO.

    • @chrismixlewis
      @chrismixlewis  3 роки тому

      I use a Sony x3000 for the videos. It’s fully automatic so I don’t have the luxury of changing the shutter speed 😁 I used to use a mirrorless but it’s way to damn big and invasive for these videos. A small automatic action cam, while it may suffer in some areas like you pointed out, overall makes filming a lot easier. The best camera isn’t the highest quality but the one you have on you 😁

    • @DougWinfield
      @DougWinfield 3 роки тому

      @@chrismixlewis I think you've picked the perfect camera for your needs. It shoots decent video, but it doesn't look like something you'd risk being mugged for something like the ZV-1. I still think 50fps in some ways might be a better choice in VN and other 50Hz locations, but not a huge deal. Keep up the good work.

    Is it just me is the English close captioning a bit off..? I've noticed it on a few of his videos that a bunch of the words will be different, things like calling the wasabi mustard or using odd choices of words. Normally I would just think it was just a case of funky auto-captioning but it doesn't seem to be auto-caption and like that it's more of a case of a bad translation. Which would be rather odd since he's speaking english and the caption is also in English...
    The only reason I mention it is because it really changes the meaning and context of the sentences, sometimes it's actually quite jarring and doesn't properly convey what he's saying.
