I'm so very pleased to see the amazing Barbara Pathe's oral history presented here. Barbara served on the front lines of battle in Europe during WWII with the Red Cross. She is featured in my short story collection, "Dancing in Combat Boots: And Other Stories of American Women in World War II." In fact, Barbara had so much fascinating information about her experiences as a woman before, during, and after the war, that I broke her narrative into two stories, which bookend my collection. Thank you for creating this and all of the oral histories you have presented. Preserving our history is of vital importance!

Wonderful inerview. For more about these women read "Good Night Irene" by Luis Alberto Urrea. His novel is basd on his mother's experience as a Donut Dolly in WW 2.
Just love this interview. My mother was an American Red Cross girl was "up front" from Normandy to meeting up with the Russian Army in Czechoslovakia. I grew up with the stories of the American Red Cross girls. They are real American heroes.
MY second cousin was a donut dolly. You also need to read the book Good Night Irene . Really good book and it tells this story. This needs to be a movie.

Short but powerful - I had no idea that these women existed until recently.
Thank you for sharing this story.

Hard to fathom being surrounded by the skeletons that were prisoners.
