Nice video Mike!! If I may, I would like to mention a couple things as a BX23s owner who has done a couple services on my own unit, and I have been a heavy mechanic for 40 years. The backhoe should be removed during a service for two reasons. The front end becomes very light and a bit dangerous if you hit the forward pedal hard without the FEL, and also you can access a mesh screen for the hydraulic fluid that is at the rear on the left side of the transmission that should be cleaned as well as the filter you replaced (yes, even at 50 hours). This involves changing all the hydraulic fluid in the trasmission, but it is a good idea since there is usually silicone bits floating around from manufacture that get caught in this small mesh filter. Great that you used the Kubota filters and oil because they are good quality. A good Rotella oil will also suffice. The engine filter should be filled with oil before installation. This helps with pressure on startup, but most importantly it pre-soaks the paper element so that it does not blow out on startup. Please take this as helpful advice and not criticism. You did a great job explaining to new owners who would like to do the maintenance themselves.
Brent... I hav a BX23s as well... both filters are installed horizontally. How do you fill them with oil and not drench your feet/face with oil? I’m genuinely curious.
@@sassafrasvalley1939 HA, good question!! You do not actually fill the filter to the top with oil. If you fill the filter approximately 1/3 to 1/2 full and let the oil seep into the filter media, it will not run out of the filter when turned sideways. Keep adding oil until it is obvious when it will spill if you turn it horizontal. You may be surprised at how much oil can be in a filter when the filter media is wet. Also, make sure that you put oil on the rubber sealing ring as Mike showed in his video.
Mike, thanks so much for this video. I have had my BX23s for about six weeks. I have a little over 31 hours on the BX and will need this exact service in just a few weeks. Very informative, it will be a great guidance for me. Thank You!
Hey Mike, to help with loosing your oil plug in the drain pan I use an old piece of filter media it’s plastic it’s about 3/4 of an inch to an inch thick I laid in the bottom of my oil pan this way I can just drop the plug-in and let the filters drain out properly works like a charm. I enjoy your videos keep up the good work and stay safe. Marcel from Manitoba Canada..... oh and Have a Day!
Don't forget to clean the screen infront of your radiator. It tends to plug up with fine debris. Especially if you use your BX to mow grass. :). Nice seeing Ty. My daughter just had my first grand baby, it's pretty awesome. Too bad her dad is a John Deere guy lol.

I have to admit that the front loader assembly on that tractor is one of the sweetest designs I have ever seen., we wish the Morgan’s and all their subscribers a great thanksgiving!
Changed my oil in the middle of nowhere once and forgot to put the plug back. Surprising to see a dry stick after filling up. Had to ride a tractor to town for more oil. Lesson learned.

Hey Mike thanks for the video. Your grandson is cute. Nice job on the Kabota. I have an older model. BX 22.It’s a handy little machine helps me with my firewood. I use it to help me with the big rounds.
I took one of those cheap filter wrenches that is made to fit on the knureled end of the filter and welded a cut down a 3/8 socket to the wrench so i could use a ratchet, the hard part is finding the right size to fit your filter. This works if you have enough room on the bottom of the filter to fit the wrench and ratchet.
No spills? Congrats. I usually need a shower after I grease and change the oil😕. Thanks for sharing. Cute Grandson. Glad to see he is no longer afraid of you.
Oh you should also check the coolant overflow tank because it looks to be way UNDER the add line . You may want to fill that up to the full mark when cold !! I seen it when you checked the oil . Also a good tip is always check the old filter for the old seal that it also came off with the old filter . I seen a lot of times it sticks on the tractor so when you put the new one on it leaks because it now has 2 seals and it wont leak till you start it up.
Hello again from MA. Good job Mike! I only saw a couple of drops of oil.😁 One thing I always do is put oil or fluid in the filter before installing it. I've got a BX2200D and I have never taken the loader off of it in 18+ years, not even to do service. A warm hello to your family. It just started raining here. Have a day!
i kinda have mishaps with oil also, just yesterday i was changing the oil in my DK55 KIoti after i drained the oil i removed the filler cap and somehow dropped it, me and my wife looked in the leaves for 20 min. and didn't find it, so i emptied the oil out of the pan into jugs and there was the filler cap in the pan of oil. mental note- remove old oil pan when finished draining

Hey Mike! Good video on tractor service. I did the 50 hour service on my RK37. A good learning experience for an old aircraft mechanic. Good to see you and Ty together. Cherish the early days, they go quickly. Say hi to Hunter!
A quick tip on the oil change is to add some oil to the new filter, or go ahead and fill it. Then, when you start the engine, it won't be sucking air until all of the oil is flowing properly.
I have two grandsons 3 and 6 months. Wherever papaw is they want to be, right in the middle. Can’t get anything done in a reasonable time and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Greetings from middle Tennessee! On trek back to NC with both sons. -- you sure have easier operations than on my old Ford 3000. I despair of ever taking that FEL off. As a mechanic put it, in those days they married FELs to tractors. There’s both easier access to fluids and a lot less of it too! I think a full oil, transmission, hydraulic, and power steering change is 13 gallons for me. And most of it is hard to access, with overflow plugs for checking level, which actually institutionalizes oil spills. I think you’re the only person I’ve ever seen so fastidious they power wash a tractor before a rain! 😉 Y’all have a good Thanksgiving!
I just did the 400 hour service in my L3901.. wouldn't ya know.. while pouring out the old 6 gallons of hydraulic fluid.. there was the washer for the lowest drain plug!!! D'oh!

hello Mike. at 9:32 am I see your coolant is too low I think. as far as i can see it on the video it is below minimal. maybe check it carefully with the coming frost period. with kind regards Hollandduck from the Netherlands
On my BX2200, when I change the filters, I write the date and number of hours on the filters. That is the easiest way for me to keep up with oil changes.
Geez! They sure made disconnecting the stuff easy. I always pour some oil into the filters that go on horizontally. Those that go straight up I fill. It's said that over time, more wear is done to the engine by having an empty filter than normal wear is.
More wear is done to the engine when you forget to put oil back in the engine or forget the drain plug and add oil...or both LOL...just ask Jiffy Lube they're great for doing both those HAHA!!! Although I've never pre-filled any of my filters some people think they need to...I've never had an engine issue in 30+ years.
Greetings from eastern Ontario. Nice video of grandpa and his grandson. From one grandpa to another what I find works best is candy. Lots of it. HAHA. Cheers.
Echo the hours/date in Sharpie on the filters. Despite Kubota's reputation for being whittled out of a solid block of steel, that has got to be the thinnest, most inadequate grill guard on any tractor I've ever seen!
What happened with the fuel filter, especially since you are not filling the fuel from a fuel pump. But from small tank you have, fuel system on new engines are very sensitive as well as expensive to repair. Happy hunting my friend
Hey Mike - Thanks for the informative "how to" vid. Did I happen to notice the coolant fluid needed topping off? Hope you enjoy your upcoming days off!!
Yep, its definitely low. Mine was like that too upon delivery from the dealer. Topped mine off right away as well as torqued all the bolts down, I was quite surprised how many bolts were not torqued including most of the lug nuts and a couple of loader mounting bolts.
I know you don’t answer many questions but it’s worth a shot....I assume you do this all the time, so how does the filter get on so tight? Hot and cold-contraction/Exspasion ? And is there a trick to it?
Install the filters hand tight. Put a slight film of oil on the new filter gasket, hand tighten, and once the engine has been ran up to operating temperature the filter gasket will expand from the heat and makes the filter even tighter, that's why you never want to tighten a filter with a wrench LOL, it'll be quite fun trying to remove it later as you have over-compressed the fitler gasket, then add the engine heat and you kind of weld the thing to the engine.
Hey there Mike i really want to get the BX23s for around my house i have a lot to do and after my stroke its harder to do the things i use too. Thanks for sharing the video
I'm a spiller. I have dropped the filter into the pan splashing oil out, dropped the pan, moved it too quick and slopped oil out, over shot the pan, etc, etc. Never tried a drain pan like yours. I was always afraid it would splash too much.
I'm with ya on the oil spiller thing...with the exception that...instead of spilling it everywhere...I spill it and get it all over me ! I don't understand why, but when I change oil...the spill ends up on me !😁😅🤣😂
Every time I go to change oil in something, it never fails, I either drop the drain plug in the oil pan, or drop the oil filter into the full oil pan splashing oil all over the place. So, before I do an oil change on anything I make sure I have some cardboard boxes handy and slide them under whatever I'm working, the cardboard soaks up the oil and makes for a mess free oil change.
Great video Mike. Please forgive what may be, "obvious" questions... Do you only hand tighten oil filters? Do you torque down the oil plug? if so, how many ft/lbs? When do you replace hydraulic fluid?
Yes only hand tighten oil filters. Otherwise you'll never get them back off again, at least not without a lot of foul language and possible damage to the engine and making a mess from breaking the filter open. Torque down the oil plug, well you can probably lookup a torque spec on it, but hand tight, then about 1/2 a turn to a turn of the wrench is plenty, you don't want to strip the threads out in the oil pan. The service manual says 24-27ft.lbs. Hydraulic fluid is supposed to be changed at the 50 hour initial break in service as well as the filter, and clean the screen filter on the back of the transmission as well. After this service the normal interval is every 400 hours for the hydraulic/transmission oil...and every 200 hours for the engine oil/filter.
Mike I know you don't use the lock N lube anymore since you have the battery operated grease gun but did you ever have a problem with locking it on the grease fitting? Even with a clean grease fitting I gave a problem with that!
A pleasure to watch this being done without cursing!! Previous life experience!!

Figured that’s where you were! You had more luck that I did. My group got a small-rack 9, a meat 6 and a little doe. The south farm half is leased, and they got 3 giant 10s. Next door neighbor north got a giant 9 that came off us. Big deer this year.
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans ME TOO!
Can’t wait to see you put rubber wallpaper up in the new building when that grandson gets mobile.
Hey Mike, you can get actual Channellock filter pliers. Work great.
Nice to see you holding grandson Ty!
Huh... I'm an oil spiller too! Can't seem to eat Thanksgiving dinner without spotting the table cloth with gravy either!
Table? What about Shirt?
hello Mike.
at 9:32 am I see your coolant is too low I think.
as far as i can see it on the video it is below minimal.
maybe check it carefully with the coming frost period.
with kind regards Hollandduck from the Netherlands
Great to see Ty in your arms
Wish Kubota would put brush guards like that on all their tractors!
Mike didn't see the new hydraulic fluid go in. I'm sure you did it as it was very quiet driving it over to install the loader.
Hi Mike Can hear the rain on your video. Did I miss you topping up the hydraulic fluid? Nice to see Ty with you
Great video. Coolant bottle appeared to be almost empty??? Keep em' coming.
Don't forget to top off the hydraulic fluid 🤔 Just saying 😁 Have a day 👍🙏✌️
On my BX2200, when I change the filters, I write the date and number of hours on the filters.
Thanks Mike for the walkthrough on the 50. Did the hydraulic filter have a magnet? How did it look?
Hi Ty yep will ride with grandad. My sister s about same age. Green one though.. The wormest spot was on the deaky plate?.
What happened with the fuel filter, especially since you are not filling the fuel from a fuel pump. But from small tank you have, fuel system on new engines are very sensitive as well as expensive to repair. Happy hunting my friend
Good morning to all the Morgans.
I only spill oil when I try not to, when I don't think about it, not a drop but as soon as I take my time and plan the job, its everywhere.
💥 Ty just needed an orange toy like his Pap. Nice service video. 👍
*Keep on tractoring!*
Just bought a new 2380, that's some great info.
Wow, my jaw literally dropped when you showed up holding the TyMan. I knew he'd come around. Papa isn't so scary after all, eh?
I'm a spiller. I have dropped the filter into the pan splashing oil out, dropped the pan, moved it too quick and slopped oil out, over shot the pan, etc, etc. Never tried a drain pan like yours. I was always afraid it would splash too much.
Great video! I just picked up a new bx23s myself just this past weekend from M&r in butler. Where did you get this one? Hermitage or butler?
Where’s your lock ‘n lube? I got one cause you recommended it and I LOVE it. Now I just need a better greeeze gun.
Ty is a man of few words but wait until Ty gets to that “what” stage.
Wow! Sunny again today..52 degrees…nice.
Congratulations on your and Ty’s new relationship! I bet it’s great getting to hold your #1 grandson....finally! Best part of today’s video! ❤️
Showing all the features of your Kubota BX 235 makes want to trade in my John Deere.
