    We are just 4 average Joe's. Much like the people who watch these videos. If you want guys that have $60,000 rigs, trailers, support vehicles, winches, mud tires, camera crew, factory support and sponsors. This isn't the channel for you. 40% of the time we are right about 10%. But we have fun and it usually makes for a good video. Thanks for watching!

    really need to teach your buddy how to drive through mud, and deep puddles. speed is key in getting through deep water/mud... momentum.. nothing worse than going into a hole, slowing to a stop and being stuck there.. if you keep speed up you can avoid flooding your truck in deeper sections.
    not to mention get some better tires.. it will make a WORLD of difference.. I have some stock size Geolandar AT's now.. looking to go with some 285/75/r16 cooper ST MAXX, or ST PRO this spring. stuck between the 2 right now.. with a 1"-1.5" spacer they will fit the 3rd gen with little rubbing as I have heard from multiple people on TW.
    please get an appropriate tow point/hitch shackle ($35 on amazon) mount point.. the hook on his 2nd gen is NOT a tow point.. it will bend and or break off.. the TRD ones are different. that come a long is ok to have.. but your high lift with a set of short chains, links, and recovery strap/tree strap has more pulling power... my older 48" high lift says it is rated for a 3000lb pull.. most cable type come a longs only do 1500-2500lbs... you can save on the weight and the high lift is multi purpose..
    nice to see a fellow Tacoma driver on the east coast.. I'm up in the midcoast region of Maine. lots of mud up here. would be glad to show you guys around if you ever come up this way.

      speed is not the key when going through deep water. speaking from experience... you never know whats below the surface.

    • @killahjeep
      @killahjeep 5 років тому +2

      @@derrickmorrison1022 if its a deep water crossing, and you have made the cross, or heard of others and know the route it is best to keep some speed to get over underwater obstacles. it also pushes the water wake forward ahead of the vehicle allowing for deeper depths to be crossed.. use your head... regular driving rules dont apply in the s!*t.. getting stuck in a deep water crossing is hazardous to the driver the vehicle, and you may never make it out. believe it or not a 3-4 ton truck will float with doors closed, and large tires filled with air. until its down river tipped over, and un-recoverable...

    • @PPatterson1593
      @PPatterson1593 4 роки тому

      @Derrickm02 watch some videos of guys over on 4WD Action. They do a lot of deep water stuff in Australia. Momentum is your friend. Also walk it before you drive it. Feel the bottom if it is a hard or soft bottom, find ruts ect...

    You guys certainly passed far beyond my comfort level for mudding around in the boonies! My dad used to take me places like that--and worse!--and it scarred me, for sure. I swear I don't know how we got out of some of the fixes he got us into exploring faint pathways and abandoned roads in his old 1963 half-ton Chevy (with only two-wheel drive!).
    That campground was some creepy-ass stuff! No way I'd have stayed there. It reminds me of some of the places we happened upon once trying to find a place to park our 17-foot Casita travel trailer in Montanan in 2015. I mean, we were desperate for a place to stay but not that desperate. So we kept driving into the inky night until we saw a state road rest area and pulled in, conked out, and slept like the dead. When I woke up in the morning to hit the head, I saw a sign on the chain link fence behind rest area that we were in the Hell Creek Formation! Probably dinosaur fossils all around us. Didn't have time to explore because my son and I had to head another day east to get my wife to the airport so that she could fly home ahead of us.
    Weird how some rural areas that you would think would have good campgrounds don't have anything but places you wouldn't want to stay.

    -A set of walkie talkies will help too. and the app "gaia GPS" will help with the trails.

    Does your Tacoma have Crawl Control? If so, could you have used it in the deep mud? I enjoyed watching this adventure. The rain made it exciting.

    • @OverlandFlorida
      @OverlandFlorida  5 років тому

      That's a good question. It does have crawl control. But my issue was my frame was sitting on the hard dirt and my tires were in the mud and had no traction in them or weight. So unfortunately it would have not worked with street tires. But thanks for watching. I love rain!

    • @killahjeep
      @killahjeep 5 років тому +1

      crawl control is next to useless in snow/mud.. you have to have some sort of traction for it to work or all 4 tires just spin... and spin, and spin..... my 2016 TRD OR got stuck in snow.. had it in 4 low, locker off, and crawl control engaged... all 4 just spun, and spun... had to get winched about 400ft back to the main plowed road... i think we used every tow strap our group brought..

  • @4x4_travel
    @4x4_travel 5 років тому +3

    You should be in 4x4 the entire time so you don't spin and dig. You should have better tires for this terrain as well. Running a street tire is going to cause spinning and make ruts.

    • @OverlandFlorida
      @OverlandFlorida  5 років тому +1
