I bought one of these for $90 like 3 years ago. It survived a rollover accident and skidding down the road, still use it in my new truck with a Kicker Comp R and it bangs daily still with no issues.
Very nice to see that some of these old school brands have stayed true to their roots and are still building amps that live up to their spec sheets. I was huge into car audio in the 90s as a teen and I remember Rockford being one of the biggest names back then. It’s nice to see that they still make solid products today even though car audio is nowhere near as hot as it was back in the 90s.
I've been very happy with this amp. Small size, big power, not many bucks. I don't stress it out very much and the bass knob is conveniently mounted right next to my seat in the center console storage bin.
Idk this is the amp o have now but I swear my 800w renegade amp made my p1 slap harder. I miss my p3 but I wored ot wrong and settled for the p1 incase I blew it up again but that hasn't happened yet with this new amp 😅
People sleep on these 500w amps. They don't realize just how loud they really can get. Not only that, the low current draw these have over the surfboards add savings over the long term because they are easier on the car's electrical system. Alpine, RF, Kicker, JL. All of em will do a fantastic job on a pair of 12s and wont break the bank doing it.
People always run after amps that says 4000+ and add two 1500 wrms subs because MUURR POWUURRR!!! Then scratch their head when my 300 wrms sub gets loud and achieves the tones they want lmao

I personally run this exact amp with 2 10" Rockford punch p1s with a custom ported box for my single cab silverado and it sounds so clean and hits hard. 4 years and 0 problems. I have a son that just turned 16 and was going to purchase the same amp but couldnt find it. Bought him a Skar 500 mono instead.Had his stereo installed today! Ill do the rest myself. My 18yr old runs the 500 mono Alpine and 2 12 rockford punches and sound amazing and waitn til xmas to hear the Skar with a 12 Rockford punch so im so Damn excited and cant wait!! Im as excited as Ian and am so glad my boys are Bass heads like the rest of us!!
I’ve used this amp for 8 years with absolutely zero problems. It’s been powering a JL 12w3 and has been nothing short of exceptional. Best bang for your buck!
I have this amp and have had it for 3 or 4 years. Been in a lot if vehicles over the year's. Still hits hard in my 02 silverado. Best amp for the money. Quality is there
I have something to say....running this amp at 1 ohm on 2 kicker 15cvx and it's dropping the hammer down!!!! And let me add it never shuts down!!..not even 1 time! All I got to say is this amp is a beast

I ran my rockford prime 750.1 for 5 years now and still rocking. Amp stays so cool and its extremely efficent, deff doesn't tax the electrical system on any modern car.
My man just ordered 2 of these today. I have installed a few of these for people and have been impressed. One is for a new setup and one is a replacement for an older Alpine 500d. Great Video as usual. Thanks Big D

thanks man. came here to find out. I am running this amp to power a 12" alpine type R with dual 2ohm coils. I got them wired in series but thus only getting 350w. So I could wire the coils in parallel and crank it up it bit more
Ran 4 15s on 2 of these in my burbab for several years, now running one on a diamond audio d3. All In all, it's been about 7 years without an issue. Great lil amps

Purple Haze FFC I’ve never been disappointed with Rockford. I think the two amps were a bit more expensive than some of the other amps I was considering but I can remember switching between them in the showroom and I just thought they sounded better.
Thanks for verifying the power these little guys put out. I’m running 3 of these to each of my P3 series 12” RF subs in my suburban and they are super efficient and never get hot. I always wondered if they did their rated power and you’ve confirmed just that. I’m thinking about sending you my RF P300.2 amp to test if you can. I ordered this amp off of Amazon and they were out of stock,so they sent me the new R2-500x1! Its a great amp Also! I have it pushing a P1S4-15 in a sealed enclosure and it slams it hard! Cant go wrong with Rockford Fosgate! Been using their stuff since the early 90s
I have this amp currently installed in my single cab ute. Running @ 4ohm on a single 10. Cannot complain, runs perfect and the small footprint made it a breeze to install.
This amp is really Awesome cant beat it for the money period have bought four of theses love them! And i have always had excellent luck with every Fosgate product owned and Mcintosh car Amp very Awesome have had it 20yrs and still work Great wish they made them again but pricy !

I ran two of these on a completely stock electrical at 2 ohms a piece and barely got any headlight dim! And I ran them pretty much full tilt for three years with absolutely no problems. And the protection network is amazing! Great amp for a noob!
I have 2 1200.1 primes, one in my car and the other for a portable stereo for the boat and camping. Both work great. I actually messed up one day and crossed the positive and ground, killed the amp. Called RockFord told them what I did and they covered it under warranty. GOOD LOOKING OUT FOR A BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART. Rockford rocks!!!
Love this amp, mine has been Rock solid stable @634w for over 2 years now, never gets hot or gone into protect, another quality one from Rockford Fosgate, my 400d4 is just as stable, it's pushing 127w x 4 for just as long.

Picked one up about 6 months ago for 100 brand new on offer up after my power 500.2 blew on me (my fault) , but it makes my Skar SDR12 at 2ohms bump like no other , berth sheet was at 648 and my sub is 600 watts rms so it’s a perfect match for each other ,
Had mine running for a while @ .9 ohm..did just fine..got a lil warm but never hot and never shut off or went into protect. I sold it to a buddy and he currently is running it @ 1 ohm still, with zero issues. I paid under 150 brand new for it online, I should have bought a couple

Had a 4 channel running 2 12” kicker comp r and The 2nn B other channels running some 6x9s epicenter made my music sound real deep and strong that alone was pretty loud . Good amps for sure
About time somebody tested it.. That the best amp I've had. Never got hot and played all day. Best amp for the price at the time. 120$ a few year ago. I done had 5 other amp since then. The only amp i like beside the prime 500 is my orion 2500dz..

I have one of these in my 1974 super beetle driving a JVC Sub at two ohms. I usually have the knob only turned 3-4 clicks and it provides more than enough Bass for me.
I have the same amp with 2 Rockford Fosgate 12s in my truck with the stock radio and it sounds really good. I’m sure it will sound even better with an after market stereo but I like to keep my truck stock.

Can u please do a 5 or 6 channel shootout? we've been doing more an more single amp systems.. I prefer the Mmats hifi 6150.. but any amps u can compare would be awesome!! keep up the great work!!!

I have a JL jx500.1. Not the 500.1d. I bought in 2012 and it was already discontinued at that point. I'm still bumping this bad boy today. Keep in mind I wasn't using it this whole time, but I used it a LOT...it still works just fine and goes in and out of protect mode when It needs to. Yes it is more expensive(obviously) but when it lasts this long with this kind of quality...its worth every penny!
Would love to see some of the subs with the amp included in one to see what’s the best, like rockfords pioneer kicker jl audio rockwood. For people who want a little bass but small footprint would love that !!!
I had the 300.4 for 7 years gave it to my boy and it’s still pushing 2 bazooka 10s in his truck for about 4 years rock solid amps. My only hate was the angled connectors.
I had my Prime R500x1D since 15', been on 1 ohm for many years. It finally died quietly powering a home theater sub at 4 ohms. My conclusion, one of the mosfets finally gave up. It's had a good run and they are great amps! Birth sheet claimed 640 watts rms at 2 ohm.
When u get around to do doing a RF punch Mono amp i should go over the internal differences between punch and prime series. Great vid as usual. Look like it was really pushing that sub pretty well
I'm giving some Boston 10's all they can take with this amp. It's a beast for the price. I might even try a trio of single 4ohm 12's with it at some point

Yes it's capable but it's needs to be 1ohm stable there's so many decent amps out there that are it seems like a no brainer

Would it beat better than power acoustik 2500?
I run this amp with a 10" sub in a shallow sealed box in my truck. Sounds great, only turned up half power and it bumps pretty hard and clean.

I had two thunder amps in my Toyota and I loved that system.
When have Rockford not done it right?? Prime is their budget line. And is a lot better than other brands top line

I did the Kenwood X801-5 vs the Pioneer 9605 a while back. I’d like to do a higher end shootout too. That MMATS 6150 looks interesting for sure
@@wal I saw that one an have installed a few of the pioneer 5 channels with excellent results.. I've also recently installed the Digital Design D5.1500 with impressive results.. but my goto (budget allowing) is the Hifi6150.. I agree a high end shoot out may be an excellent test!!!

I have a JL jx500.1. Not the 500.1d. I bought in 2012 and it was already discontinued at that point. I'm still bumping this bad boy today. Keep in mind I wasn't using it this whole time, but I used it a LOT...it still works just fine and goes in and out of protect mode when It needs to. Yes it is more expensive(obviously) but when it lasts this long with this kind of quality...its worth every penny!

Would love to see some of the subs with the amp included in one to see what’s the best, like rockfords pioneer kicker jl audio rockwood. For people who want a little bass but small footprint would love that !!!
I had the 300.4 for 7 years gave it to my boy and it’s still pushing 2 bazooka 10s in his truck for about 4 years rock solid amps. My only hate was the angled connectors.
I’ve never scoped a name brand full bridge and thought “WOAH, the cost is SO worth it compared to Stetsom or Taramps!”
This is a great little amp, I ran this with a sundown 8 at it was amazing.

I had my Prime R500x1D since 15', been on 1 ohm for many years. It finally died quietly powering a home theater sub at 4 ohms. My conclusion, one of the mosfets finally gave up. It's had a good run and they are great amps! Birth sheet claimed 640 watts rms at 2 ohm.
Wish I would have picked on of these up when they were that price. Heck of a deal for this thing.

When u get around to do doing a RF punch Mono amp i should go over the internal differences between punch and prime series. Great vid as usual. Look like it was really pushing that sub pretty well

I had this amp on a JL 12W3v3 and it pushed that sub plenty!! Sold it as I needed more power.
I'm giving some Boston 10's all they can take with this amp. It's a beast for the price. I might even try a trio of single 4ohm 12's with it at some point
