Just discovered your channel and am very impressed with your work. It's rare to see someone (seemingly) so young have this level of talent. I've been a professional drag queen for (cough)twenty-eight(cough) years but if it's one thing I know, it's that even after having done this since God was a boy, there is always much to learn from others and I thank you for sharing your talents and your tips with others here. (One tip I can offer regarding the hair donuts you've used: If you've nothing but dark donuts (FYI for your viewers: there are blonde donuts, though not as common), you can encase them within a couple layers of pantyhose (similar to how you used the hairnets here) and pin them through that to keep the style from revealing anything within the structure. It's probably advisable to use the really large bobbypins in this case (what my late drag mother would call steeplejacks). Another great idea (and one I've used more) is to buy up some of those supercheap ponytail clips from drug stores or larger retailers. You can clip these into the base wig for the structure. I used to purchase big banana clips and feed the teeth through the netting of full wigs as well. The possibilities using some of the least expensive stuff are endless! I've liked, I've commented, I'm subscribed. And I look forward to watch all of your videos! Best of luck!
Here's a tip you didnt ask for, use half if a Tampico juice jug instead. It has a wider shape and it gives the rounded look that the movie wig has. I stacked two wigs with Tampico bottle. I zip tied the bottle to the first wig, and again with the second. I danced all night. It was glorious
Do you shave your eyebrows or is the way they appear...because of using glue/covering up. Doing either I could really get the type of look I'd like to try but another video I saw they were using blue stick type of glue...why not a lighter color? Trying to understand because I watched a few videos that discussed using color at times to conceal different things.
Heya! I shave my brows so the ones you can see in this video are makeup I don’t glue my brows but a lot of people who glue their brows down use the blue glue sticks because it dries clear so you can easily tell when it is dry when it is no longer blue 😇
@@brookekhaki Thanks for replying! How are people when it comes to you shaving them? I've considered doing so myself because daily I could actually do my makeup but with how people can be jerks...it's had me considering the glue option...but...that would take a bit of time.
@@excxmoody If you don't mind me chiming in here, I can offer some insight to this as well. I would say the vast majority of queens working today use the Elmer's Glue sticks like Brooke mentioned, but yes - it is time-consuming and if you sweat a lot (especially onstage under lights) they can tend to pop back up in chunks....which is never a look any queen wants to feature. If this is the case with you, there are a smaller percentage of queens (Bianca Del Rio and even Raven - RuPaul's current makeup artist - among them) that use a product called Pro's Aide. This is a medical-grade adhesive and though I've personally never used it, it's definitely the method I would try to master first, especially if you want your face to look just as flawless close-up as well as when onstage. You should be able to find a few decent tutorials here on UA-cam. You did mention in your original question that you'd heard about using color to conceal....this is true and it's most often using a red or an orange tone (I've seen girls use lipstick, colored stick foundations, eyeshadow/blush palettes, even products specifically to color-correct) to further conceal darker tones (eyebrows, beard, undereyes, etc) before applying foundation. Search "makeup color-correcting" or "makeup color-correction" for tutorials and a better explanation. I've always shaved my brows. In the days before UA-cam and _RuPaul's Drag Race,_ a lot of drag was learned through trial-and-error if you didn't have a drag mother to show you the ropes. This meant most queens went through an ugly phase while they tried to gain footing. If anything, it kept a b***h humble because there were always photos of them in their "ugly phases" out there somewhere that could be used against them if they got too grand. Ha! In my ugly phase, I tried absolutely everything _except gluesticks_ (soap, clear nail polish, etc) before I finally gave up and shaved the damned things off. Before long, people simply didn't notice I had no brows because it's the only way they'd seen me - I also started to collect inexpensive eyeglasses with funky frames and clear lenses to further hide my lack of brows. Either way, using any of these methods to cover one's brows will have the biggest impact on changing your face for drag. Try drawing or painting them in different shapes, heights, and tones - I'm blonde in drag and lighter-toned brows can do wonders. If you're still with me (I apologize for the length of this), I'll share one more tip: The one mistake I see more than just about any other: _Do not use black pencil eyeliner to do your brows!_ Why? All black eyeliner pencils are created as the darkest shade of a base color, most often blue or green. The problem with this is similar to how a tattoo fades over time; if you're going to be in drag for more than two or three hours, the brows tend to fade into more of the base color. If you have absolutely nothing else but a black pencil, I'd recommend at the very least going over them with a brownish eyeshadow and bringing it in your purse for touch-up's along with your translucent loose powder and puff, which are always a must to keep your beautiful work of art from looking greasy. (Shudders). Again, I hope neither of you mind my chiming in; I've got a small army of drag daughters myself and my nuturing side has kept me generous with my knowledge. Hope this helps! (PS: My thumbnail image is not me, but rather a friend that dressed as me for Halloween one year).
