She did not resign because of tariffs, she resigned because the PM was about to sack her anyway, and she had to defend a budget she was against. A budget that was giving tax payers 250$ each and GST (sales tax) break for two months. Basically, Trudeau tried to buy votes, he had a hugely deficitary budget and asked Freeland to defend it, while telling her she was going to be replaced anyway. She had some self-esteem and decided to give the PM a big F-U before resigning the day she was due to present her economical update. Trudeau's days are counted.

Canada only purchases 25% of it's cars that are made in Canada, the balance is mostly USA made cars. We have a trade balance other than Energy, that is electricity purchased from Quebec at 25% of the rates that your own USA system charges USA customers, and heavy crude oil that you pay 50% rates than mix with Texas oil and sell at Texas prices. You are looking at increases of $1.00 plus per gallon on every gallon of gas purchased in the USA. These NAFTA deals are the rules that industries build upon, were we are quickly headed is CANADA closing it's borders to USA products and like the USA wants moving manufacturing back within Canada, and Federal EXPORT taxes on all energy headed South. These Trump Tariffs are about to shut the North American Economy down. And Canada will not rebuild with ever trusting a trade deal with the USA again, it was a mistake to enter into one and we all may end up paying a bit to get out of it. But unlike the USA Canada will be in a better position without a deal between the USA and Canada. Mexico has a lot to lose, Canada in the long run does not. The US doesn't make nearly as much stuff as we did 30 years ago, we don't have the infrastructure or the people to do it anymore. And its not like you can build that in a year or two. So, if you impose tariffs, it is effectively a tax, and if you think people in the US are cheap compared to pretty much anywhere else in the world think again. Its not just salaries, its also all of the laws and regulations to go with that. Not sure if you know this, but Toronto is the new Hollywood simply because of how easy it is to film there. If you need a city backdrop a lot of that is done in Canada now. Not here... This has been going on for decades, we have been shipping out our technology and our processes for a long time.

Trudeau himself has moved the Liberal party all the way to the left while Pollieve has moved the Conservative party all the way to the right. This has created a huge gap in the middle which is where most of us have floated back and forth in.

Quebec has it's own nationalist party, and they are highly popular there. We're going to elect Liberals again after 8 - 9 years of Conservatives privatizing and selling out the country.

-Freeland resigned because she refused to be Trudeau's scapegoat. This positions her to join many others in the Liberal Party who are trying to save their own seats by getting Trudeau to resign before the next election. She would also be a contender for Party leader.
-Poilievre constantly lies about things for the sake of political posturing. Back when Harper was PM the Liberals did the same thing, and they were just as obnoxious. Conservative voters don't care about much except getting rid of Trudeau.
-Trudeau has always been out of touch, and largely got elected by copying the ideas of the NDP, but didn't implement them. He also traded on his family name, but none of this works for him anymore.
-The NDP continue to decline in popularity as the economy is not seen as their forte, and their leader is unpopular in Quebec.
-The Bloc Quebecois is set to sweep all of Quebec, as they did 30 years ago. This will electorally prevent any other Party from forming a Majority government in the House of Commons.
-NONE of these Parties will run on increased defense spending to meet NATO targets because the population will not support spending money while facing Trump's import tax scheme. Trump's taxes will hurt everyone except Europe and Russia.
