Thanks louche. I have to donate to your brilliant video. I love this. I main an ADC Character but I find myself filling in for tanks/supports for a majority of my games because it helps my team/nobody else fills.
You nailed it. People just don't understand how powerful defender/support characters are in Unite. There's a reason why every single metagame phase we've had (first Eldegoss, then Wigglytuff, then Blissey + Hoopa, then Mime) is defined by supports, and not defined by damage dealers. People complain so much about crowd control in this game, and defenders are the biggest contributors to that. Unite wants support and defender to be insanely high impact roles in this game, even moreso than attackers and speedsters. As an all-rounder main, I love how I can hit a sweetspot of damage carry and support depending on what my team needs. Need a frontline brawler with stuns and damage? Buzzwole and Mamoswine (basically an all-rounder) can pave the way. Need to turbo damage carry? Aegislash, Machamp, Tsareena can 1v9. Need a bit more range? Azumarill and Charizard can zone them out. I really wish people realized that stubbornly locking frail damage carries, prevents them from damage carrying. Support is broken in this game lol
At the end of the day, it just comes down to those pokemon being much less popular/not as liked. The REALLY popular pokemon all get designed to be jungle carries like Greninja, Charizard, Gardevoir, Tyranitar, and so players will always instalock their favs/go as far as to play them in lane. Eldegoss/Mr.Mime just aren't as "cool", which is unfortunate, because supporters and defenders are always needed in a good team comp.
Gosh I love this take just as much as I love your smile, Louche. Don't tell Spragels but I think I look forward to your videos more than his! You're so insightful and educational, please never stop. I hope you grow to reach more and more people every day
Having a good balance team comp usually wins games. However it depends on the player(s) using it as well. Thus why it's best to know each role effectively, to not only benefit yourself but for the team.
As someone who mains tank/support I feel this video so hard lol. I hate having a team of all attackers and me. It’s hard to support a team when the meta is so bursty right now. No matter how much I span other roles needed at character selection, no one switches 😞😩
Another great video. So glad someone with way more reach said this. I did a whole support your team campaign where I played each supporter back to back and posted each match whether I won or lost or whether it was a spectacular match or not just to show the impact of playing a helper instead of another carry. I said this over and over, 5 attackers don't win games. Don't be afraid to support. Thanks for this video and this topic needs to reach as many players as possible. You inspired me to pick up the tank roll and it's been a learning process, but it's really helped me get better.
I couldn't agree more with your take on this topic, there's too many players playing the 'wrong pokemon' in lane/fighting for jungle. Much love and respect to all defender/supporter mains out there, you make rank a better place
Thank you so much for this, found you on the podcast with Spragels and Krashy. You make wonderful content and the way you present your information is a big reason for that. This message is great!
Yo Louche, just wanna shout you out. Your content is great. My friends and I have been diggin into your vids and we have seen massive gains. As a trio we are 34-4 in Master rank over the last week! It’s really helped us see the game in a different light, and help us focus on our win conditions. Thanks again man. Keep it up
Hi Louche! I don't know about anyone else but this video just validated me as a Supporter main. I've already come to terms to myself that I wouldn't be able to carry games when I'm an Attacker or a Speedster. I really found that being the Supporter gives me more chances of winning games. Sure, it will be very difficult especially if I'm with say, 4 attackers, but I think this video will help people be a little more mindful when it comes to choosing Pokemon in the loading screen. Thank you really for these videos!
Also, because some people don’t play support they don’t understand what you’re trying to do. Trying to heal with Elde is so frustrating when they don’t take your pollen puff 😂 used to be the same with Mime’s power swap but because it was played so much recently people understand it. Hoopa’s portals are never taken either. At least with Blissey and Clefable you can force them to take your healing
The number of team mates I've had that run away from me as fast as possible when I try to heal them on Blissey and Clefable makes me sad. And the number of Gravities I've dropped only for my team to attack the defender outside of it... This is the winning comment.
That rollout escape was nuts. Also, I put on a Louche video and know that I will just agree with everything he says. I have played so much defender this season and although I’m at a really good WR this season since having that one defender beats their 5 attackers, I really want to play other mons. I finally get zoroark and can’t use it because it throws the team comp right out.
The fact that there's pretty much since May there's been an emphasis on overpowered supporters dominating the meta, from the Blissey-Hoopa days, to the Mime meta, and even Eldegoss resurgence nowadays, shows how impactful their kits are to the game. Sure, they don't have the most flashy playstlyes, but damn, unite has some pretty great supporter desing compared to other mobas.
I 100% agree with your well-spoken thoughts in this video. When I started playing Unite, I mostly played Cinder, Greninja, and Decidueye, and my win rate was consistently just above 50%. I started playing defenders and supports regularly during season 3, and while I’ve had a lot of frustrating losses where my carries overextended or made poor plays where I couldn’t support them, I’ve found that my win rate has consistently gone up and I’ve realized that the defender and supporter play style suits me best. I try to play a mix of roles for when the team comp needs an all rounder or attacker, but I’ve definitely found more success in filling for the team based on the characters my teammates have selected. I really love your content and appreciate how much you teach the Unite community. I only wish the game helped to promote content like yours so that your videos could reach a wider audience within the player base.
maaaaaan your vids are so underated , for real... you trully speak for everyone here! i got to masters last 3 season learning different styles im struggling this season im not gonna lie but fact is... what you just said is 100% true and mostly when i loose a battle i say : what did i do wrong? coulve picked a different rol? and that actually has helped me to improved my game nevertheless it would be cool if the mayority of youtubers that plays unite make a video about this so people understands better about the different roles keep the good work mate! and thanks for another vid!
I realized a long time ago that as a new player my role was to learn the defence and support before going onto the attacking roles. I suppose it comes from my Jujitsu background which my motto is "position before submission" I have climbed to a 52% overall winrate, I went from absolute noob to a decent teammate which is an achievement in itself and I'm not afraid to say that I don't feel confident with alot of carries like absol and greninja, which doesn't make me a bad player, I just see the bigger picture and alot of people have played mobas for many of years. I always take a step back and think what is the team lacking? What would work well with my lane partner? But I find people like myself much more valuable than that absol who might have a 58% winrate but refused to step out of the jungle because someone else called it. Also what the hell happened at 4:00 mark in this video, that was amazing!
You inspired me to go into practice mode, took me 15 minutes to get comfortable with it, cant wait for the 2 times it will come in handy! Thanks louchey ❤️
So true. That's why it's important to not just pick up one character, but several to pick up roles your team is missing. Despite defenders and supporters not being my thing I still pick up a couple to be decent at, just to have that option available for team comp.
This is so true. Actually imo it's not even about selfishness, for people who want to carry the main reason is they want to win more. But if winning more is the goal, then taking team composition into account is conducive towards that goal. It's not just about hard carrying by yourself.
Yessss huge, I try to pick what will help the team sometimes, always when I lose dibs on jungle. but most times when I call dibs on jungle people just stick with the attacker/speedster they wanna play and leave us with a shit comp.
I have had the opportunity to play with a very few lane Rowlet/Deci that knew what the hell they were doing. I'm a hard Slowbro main, and I know what I'm doing regardless if I'm in top or bot lane. Its always super satifying, I literally go ahead and pick a target to engage, bait them and the Deci gets to have target practice.
I have only realized this recently, and decided to learn some Trevenant, and the quality of the games (even if we lose) have gotten a lot better. I sometimes outdamage the entire team also.
Yeah, I played a game with a group of Masters/an Ultra (I'm Vet) and literally everyone but me (Slowbro) and a random Master playing an Eldegoss were playing as individual carrys. There was absolutely no teamwork to be found. They started even bickering over VC not even after the first bottom goal broke. This stuff is why I don't play ranked, you play a defender or support.. the rest of the team believes they're all carries. EVeryone else picks a speedster and then its just like.. guys we need an all-rounder at least.
To be honest, playing defenders is so fun! Mamo provides cc, can move the whole opposing team with high horse power but he also dominates the early game and can carry games! Btw it's fun to let people think they can score and kill them in the process but also to provide vision for the team, peeling... So much stuff to do!
Hallelujahs man! You are preaching the truth here. I think that people should master 5 different roles and fill the role that is needed at the beginning of each match for optimal performance. Attitude for being a main carry comes from people watching phenomenal players like Chrisheroes dealing 100k+ damage on gengar and thinking they can do the same. When you humble yourself a bit and start thinking how to win as a team, win rates will rise too.
It’s funny because stuns and slows are the most op thing in literally every game that exists and especially in unite Solo q people atleast regularily will have 1 person that’s a support or defender but everyone else is struggling to play a jungler in lane. In actual competing teams you will see 2 or more defenders/supports
I've been doing this more and found that if my team can't heal the way I want then I'll do it myself. Found out I'm a pretty good support along the way
This is the exact reason why I end up supporting every MOBA I play. Granted, it is nice being able to have a couple jungle options the odd case when you get paired with 4 lane characters.
"Your saying your better than the enemy team, which isnt likely the case" GZ Joe watching this: Yes I am. Jokes aside, I totally agree with you Louche, this happens in my games way too often and I'm still trying to get to master because of this
Whenever I see someone pick lane Cinderace, all carries are immediately off the table for me, me and my Lax are gonna help that lil man get ahead in life. They may not appreciate what I did for them, but its nice to see my man tearing shit up late game.
💯!! Louche is spot on! Everyone share this video. Every other content creator says you have to play a carry to win solo que. So everyone chooses a carry. It makes no sense. Content creators have to stop saying this is how you win games its false, we need to play better comps.
@@dumdumer892 Pokemon Unite is a team game. It plays exactly like any Team Sport. Take American Football for example. There is a slogan in football, "Defenses win Championships." - You can't win games by having just an offense, you need a solid defense as well. It doesn't matter if your team puts up 40+ points in a game if your defense can't stop the opponent's offense. The same principle holds true for Pokemon Unite. If you run a comp with 5 attackers, you're going to get wiped. You need a defender/supporter to tank the damage and front line for your team. What is the point of playing 5 backliners, who will front line for you? Sure damage matters but who's going to tank the damage if you're not running a supporter/defender? Louche's video is spot on. I'm all for this.
Keep in mind that it goes both ways. The jungler or attack could be inexperienced and not rotate with the team and makes you wish you picked an attacker. And vice versa. You can do everything right and still suffering for considering the team comp. That’s why so many play offensive Pokémon because don’t want to rely on the team that may do a bad job
I don't think all players can play support like Blissey , you must have presence of mind and be by your team side while team fights or team is dying and you be like ' oops I was this little bunny '
As someone who usually plays defenders/supporters I occasionally have the opposite issue, where everyone calls a lane. So I’ve had to pick an attacker or speedster, and I’ve also had to learn to jungle. But it is definitely more common to find two people fighting over jungle, or lane froakies. I like to go supporter with exp share to try to help lane scorbunnies/froakies/charmanders level up, but not easy. What I enjoy much more is bullying enemy lanes who pick these Pokemon 😂
I’m very forced to play either defender or support because everyone wants to instalock attackers and speedsters ;v; which is too bad because I’m a decent defender/tank and pretty skilled support, but… it’s a coin flip if the attackers can deal enough to actually carry like they believe they can
If two people are trying to claim jungle as a defender main, I’ll claim jungle as well to try to force off them to switch, then click off of it when they have
Yup.. My highest win rates are on defenders, and it feels like I can NEVER play an attacker. It always defender or all rounder, and even all rounders are hard to play sometimes when your whole team chose attackers and speedsters.
I am a strong believer in having at least one Pokemon you know how to play from each roll. But if you are going to fill a support or defender role please know how to fulfil your role. I almost feel like if you don't know how to defend or support just go attacker so I can at least fill. There is no point having a defender when they are never at team fights or objectives helping your attackers.
I think the I have to carry mentality goes beyond the character select. I've seen incredibly selfish people eating exp stealing from teammates that need it and are close to power spikes, and such. I am the guy that often fills the tanky front line Pokémon if there is none because I know that will make my team's job easier but even if you are not playing that role you can be a team player and help the team: peel for them, help them defend points if you see them on the minimap, stand on the goal so they get a quicker score. I have huge trust issues in solo Q players but no matter what I will help.
I can almost always predict the how the game is gonna go. I use this trick in solo Q as a lot of players are clueless. As soon as i enter the lobby, I pick potion decidueye or potion gardevoir in lane(these are considered bad choices) and I observe how my teammates build a team around it. If i still see my teammates picking all attackers/speedsters, I can say that the game is going to suck. At the end of the lobby timer, i switch to a bulkier mon. This has worked well for me as I feel that people pick bulkier mons with a greater chance when i do this. I don't know, what do you guys think of this idea
I love the video and agree with you but I think if my team is lacking an ADC and the middle is already taken. You should be allowed to take cinder, greni and decidueye in a lane as long as you got your farm and know your limits
Yeah I have to go against the grain on this one, I think you need a couple of hyper carries on team, ready to take jungle if jungler is not clearing. Too many times been burnt by single clear then lane jungler, and the back cap at 2min. In saying that more than happy to support or defend if we have a couple of hyper carries
Thats why I play mostly tanky Scizor. I can be frontline tank for my squishesh, but I also can carry games, riping objectives, and give some cc with ult. I like playing tanks (Mamo is my shit), I dont mind diyng for my carries, but with that pick you are hopeless when you enemy dont want to gather at Regieleki.
I used to pick charecters based on my team and I ended up playing like 8 matches with snorlax in a row. And my team responds to it by ignoring my support.😔. My team is mostly under lv and is falling out and they don't even show up at rayquaza and surrender. Im playing just mime now and position myself better
Unfortunately 90% of the time i am the highest ranked player on my team, so playing tanks and supports is even more difficult. So usually i just play strong lane all rounders and attackers to balance out the team.
Even though I adjust I still lose because of my brain dead teammates, I mean who's in the right mind abandons support and tank early game? Letting the tank/support to 1v3 in the lane.
honestly every time i try to fill a role i just lose alot more and im just way better off playing talonflame which i can do really well with. with talonflame i feel like i can do alot more and i dont have to rely on my team as much to do things its a decent laner, a good jungler, its fast and it can kill squishy mons easily
This is why I highly rate Pikachu and have massive success with it (nearly 70% winrate in solo queue) Not only can I be very supportive with my CC and Buddy Barrier spam but if needed I can still carry and reach 80k-100k damage numbers. Pika is hands down the most underrated character in the game
Yeah, the supporty attackers are generally underrated. A9, Pika, and Espeon are my highest WR characters this season all above 60%, even though they’re generally thought as some of the worst lol. And hey, maybe they are. But as long as I’m winning games with them, Imma keep at it. A9 especially makes Scizor, Venu, and Dodrio’s lives miserable as they depend on that constant healing or movement, and she can just shut them down.
@@freepalestineleftist They are considered bad mostly because of being immobile. But I run X Speed so I can do fast rotations and be on objectives before time, negating that weakness. Their ability to play safe and let the opponent come to them and get cc'ed and die is just great
@@Louched I really have so much success with it. I jokingly asked people what other "bad" Pokemon they wanted me to make good, and they made me play A9 and I still did great hahaha 68% winrate with the Avalanche+Blizzard combo. CC is king in solo queue
I don't think they think they are carry, I think they just play only one mon. When I see someone which have less game than me and the higher medal of a pokemon I find it weird. Decidueye and greninja are the most touched by this and cinderace next I would say.
And What happens when you pick (let's say Greninja for jungle) before anyone else picks anything, and an asshole picks Zeraora or Absol (and you know they will go jungle)? Because it's really not fun at all to be forced to change what you already picked because another team mate is an asshole.
It’s the worst when that happens, if we don’t swap away we grief our team even though we shouldn’t be the one that has to, that person is in the wrong and we get punished or we lose, it’s definitely upsetting
i don’t disagree with you but solo q teammates are just so stupid sometimes. it’s not like they’re bad they can ko but when you give someone a shield and they just dont take advantage of it. when your the only person on your team at rayquaza whilst your team is 4v1’ing an altaria in bottom lane a support like wigglytuff just wont be able to steal like greninja, cinderace, or even an eldegoss can.
all the stuff that you say in this video seems so normal to me, i dont understand how not everyone thinks this way. i really hate this game and it fanbase, i really should quit it :/
if i show delphox or mew first, and my team proceeds to pick cinderance and glaceon theres no way i adjust for such people, if they auto pick like thiz they are 10000% bad players, and then i enter their profile and want to puke, how can you play over 2k games same pokemon only with 50% wr or having overall 44-48 on all your pokemons, i dont understand why and how these people exist, what they find fun in this game, or why they play it....
Thanks louche. I have to donate to your brilliant video. I love this.
I main an ADC Character but I find myself filling in for tanks/supports for a majority of my games because it helps my team/nobody else fills.
Thank you so much!
that wiggy rollout at 4:02 omg, great video again Louche
Thank you!
Rollout mastery at 4:00. I might even give Wiggly go after months in the bench, to see if I can pull moves like those myself.
Wiggly is so fun!
Uhm actually Wigglytuff gets the mastery by using sing 🤓
You nailed it. People just don't understand how powerful defender/support characters are in Unite. Having a good balance team comp usually wins games. However it depends on the player(s) using it as well. Thus why it's best to know each role effectively, to not only benefit yourself but for the team.

This stuff is why I don't play ranked, you play a defender or support.. the rest of the team believes they're all carries. EVeryone else picks a speedster and then its just like.. guys we need an all-rounder at least.
Good point Louche! But damn Louche! That super long Rollout!?
It’s funny because stuns and slows are the most op thing in literally every game that exists and especially in unite
Solo q people atleast regularily will have 1 person that’s a support or defender but everyone else is struggling to play a jungler in lane.
In actual competing teams you will see 2 or more defenders/supports
You're absolutely right man. I love all the tips you give
"Your saying your better than the enemy team, which isnt likely the case"
GZ Joe watching this: Yes I am.
Jokes aside, I totally agree with you Louche, this happens in my games way too often and I'm still trying to get to master because of this
good video louche thank you! youre now nuzlocke elite 4!
Whenever I see someone pick lane Cinderace, all carries are immediately off the table for me, me and my Lax are gonna help that lil man get ahead in life. They may not appreciate what I did for them, but its nice to see my man tearing shit up late game.
Right? They grow up so fast 😭
@@burnished Yeah when I bully the enemies off the farm he gets to level seven real fast.
50 percent of my life problems is people stealing my jungle when i called it first.
I feel I might die of an enthusiasm overdose louche from you ❤
Im really hoping this vid is just about laning cinder lmaoo
I don't think all players can play support like Blissey , you must have presence of mind and be by your team side while team fights or team is dying and you be like ' oops I was this little bunny '
4:25 lmao that zoroark got me 😭
Haha it was Joe, what you can’t hear is me saying “I’m gonna farm Joe” 😂
As someone who usually plays defenders/supporters I occasionally have the opposite issue, where everyone calls a lane. So I’ve had to pick an attacker or speedster, and I’ve also had to learn to jungle. But it is definitely more common to find two people fighting over jungle, or lane froakies. I like to go supporter with exp share to try to help lane scorbunnies/froakies/charmanders level up, but not easy. What I enjoy much more is bullying enemy lanes who pick these Pokemon 😂
I’m very forced to play either defender or support because everyone wants to instalock attackers and speedsters ;v; which is too bad because I’m a decent defender/tank and pretty skilled support, but… it’s a coin flip if the attackers can deal enough to actually carry like they believe they can
I only made it to 1:55 before I commented, OH MY ACTUAL GOD!!!! I completely agree with you bro. And now back to the video.
Thank u for this. I 🤦🏻♀️ at the number of times the team is full of bunny/frog/bird/speedster.
It 's always frustrating for me as a Support main when I see my team go 4 Attackers.
In my head I'm thinking, "Wow, look at all these anime protags".
When I see Decidueye on my team, especially in Jungle, I know we're going to lose. 🤣
Yes agree, heart always sinks
People should learn to give up the jungle more, they single-handedly may give up a game because of the poorly plays
the escape at 4 min mark should be illegal
😂❤️
I mean having 2 speedsters as decoys is fun the fun part being the enemy team would just wonder which speedster goes to jungle 🤣
This is 100% true, I reached to the masters by playing mostly slowbro/snorlax/mime, my team never picks any of these mons, I don't have any option.
Banger video
Louche don’t show gameplay, louche tells you how to play the game and the theory!
I stopped caring about the topic at 4:01
I can almost always predict the how the game is gonna go.
Okay I agree with everything in this video But why is No-one Talking about that Nasty Rollout at 4:00 🤯🤯🤯
😂❤️
I love the video and agree with you but I think if my team is lacking an ADC and the middle is already taken. You should be allowed to take cinder, greni and decidueye in a lane as long as you got your farm and know your limits
Amen brother
HA! Self-awareness... imagine...
the carry is most likely the highest elo in the lobby (top of the screen)
Even though I adjust I still lose because of my brain dead teammates, I mean who's in the right mind abandons support and tank early game? Letting the tank/support to 1v3 in the lane.
Only problem. With thus logic is I seem to get tons of bot games even in veteran and ultra.
honestly every time i try to fill a role i just lose alot more and im just way better off playing talonflame which i can do really well with.
with talonflame i feel like i can do alot more and i dont have to rely on my team as much to do things
its a decent laner, a good jungler, its fast and it can kill squishy mons easily
This is why I highly rate Pikachu and have massive success with it (nearly 70% winrate in solo queue)
Not only can I be very supportive with my CC and Buddy Barrier spam but if needed I can still carry and reach 80k-100k damage numbers. Pika is hands down the most underrated character in the game
I’ll have play it soon, been a while
Yeah, the supporty attackers are generally underrated.
Last 2 times I pick Snorlax my jungle Greninja/Zeraora deal 32/28k dmg :3
And What happens when you pick (let's say Greninja for jungle) before anyone else picks anything, and an asshole picks Zeraora or Absol (and you know they will go jungle)?
Because it's really not fun at all to be forced to change what you already picked because another team mate is an asshole.
It’s the worst when that happens, if we don’t swap away we grief our team even though we shouldn’t be the one that has to, that person is in the wrong and we get punished or we lose, it’s definitely upsetting
@@Louched i really like your mindset. Good answer, as well. Thanks for actually replying. 😊
i don’t disagree with you but solo q teammates are just so stupid sometimes. it’s not like they’re bad they can ko but when you give someone a shield and they just dont take advantage of it. when your the only person on your team at rayquaza whilst your team is 4v1’ing an altaria in bottom lane a support like wigglytuff just wont be able to steal like greninja, cinderace, or even an eldegoss can.
yup
all the stuff that you say in this video seems so normal to me, i dont understand how not everyone thinks this way. i really hate this game and it fanbase, i really should quit it :/
if i show delphox or mew first, and my team proceeds to pick cinderance and glaceon theres no way i adjust for such people, if they auto pick like thiz they are 10000% bad players, and then i enter their profile and want to puke, how can you play over 2k games same pokemon only with 50% wr or having overall 44-48 on all your pokemons, i dont understand why and how these people exist, what they find fun in this game, or why they play it....
I don’t know why but I’ve been having lane decidueyes every single day, multiple times a day, and I hate it 🥲😂
It’s fun tho 👀
@@Louched louche stooop they listen to you 😂🤭
