    The younger me was all about modifications however the older me is not a huge fan of them. When you are talking about a car like an F-Type or any high-end car, l think keeping things completely stock is the best way to go. Once you start making too many changes cosmetically, it ruins the look of the vehicle and comes off looking “cheesy.” The only changes I’m a fan of are performance spark plugs, performance air filter, tires, and exhaust but this is just one man’s opinion, cheers.

      Some great points and I know a lot of upgrades that appeal to me are things like carbon fibre, or wheels, or wings that may be upgrades of that specific car. That way it looks factory.

    There was an F-Type on a lot where I live with the same leaping Jag decal over the rear wheel arches and it sat on that lot forever. My guess is because it looked awful. I think the dealer agreed because eventually they removed them and the car looked so much better. I had to double take to realise it was the same car. I think with F-Type appearance mods less is more. Subtlety is key, just how you did yours. But each to their own.

    The only thing I find OK is the offset stripe. All else is garish and looks like overkill. The f-type is a classy look as is and needs very little in adornment. I do like your subtle accent stripes on your personal car. 8 looked into having some added to my f-type (black/red interior), but the installer wanted a little over $150 for that little add on. Not worth it to me.

    Robert was great to work with at Supersprint!! I recommend getting the full race exhaust system!! The race exhaust sounds better than any Mustang, Hellcat, AMG, M, etc. just my opinion :) I'll be posting vids of the exhaust very soon. The full race exhaust with the 200 cell cats is much louder than the touring version in the UA-cam vids.

    I purchased a 2016 R coupe in orange (9.1k miles) in April and the first modification was a month later. I installed the complete Supersprint race exhaust. The car sounds demonic and worth every penny ($7.5k after the discount + install fees). I also purchased lowering springs from Velocity AP and an aftermarket carbon fiber rear diffuser which was a pain to install. I changed the mirror caps to carbon fiber as well. I'll likely get the complete tune package from Velocity AP and research the upgraded rods/pistons they offer as well.

    Not a fan, and some of that wrap doesn’t look like it was installed nicely. But if the exhaust tips were changed….. you can’t always think it’s a V6… because mine is a 2015 V8S, with the S badges, and it is a convertible.

    Completely agree that it is so good to see individualised cars where owners have put their personal stamp on their ride. What I do also like is that it is reversible as you say. This particular customisation wouldn’t be to my taste but we are all different and kudos to the owner for a nice job. The hellcat is maybe a little too much because then people think it is a sponsorship type of deal (maybe it is lols). If they colour matched the red/orange to the jag logo background then an extra 10pts for attention to detail 👍

    Great discussions. I’ve been struggling if I should modify. I, like everyone else, get too many compliments as it looks now. Stock V8 is more than enough for me (for now). My F type is very similar to yours, but a 2016 convertible with gyrodyne wheels. Beautiful as it is- I find the gray hard to customize too much without cheapening the look. Other colors such as white I find easier to customize and still look good. I changed the black package to chrome (kept the roll bars black) and painted splitters black to accent the beautiful shape of the car. Flirted with carbon fiber accents, but did not pull the trigger. New rims would be nice, but really like the stock wheels. I saw a blue project 7 style stripe on gray and it looked great. I may stop where I’m at, but the project 7 stripe across the front of the hood on ammonite gray intrigues me, but will probably keep it as is for now…
    I may be more open to modifications as the miles add up….
    What do you think of carbon fiber accents, like the ones you can find at a place like jag madness?
    Like you, I really enjoy people expressing themselves thru their cars and the modifications they make!

    I think these are accessories, not mods. True mods would be a remapped ECU, a new crank pulley, cats, new supercharger pulley, exhaust, intakes etc.

  • @ChrisFEJackson
    @ChrisFEJackson Рік тому +2

    I guess when the owner grows up they'll take the mods off. The white lettering on the tyres make it look cheap. The danger with the added stripe(s) is paint fade or difference in time. If I saw it for sale in the UK as is, I'd walk past it, it tells me that the person wanted a race car and at least tried in the Jag, so it may also indicate a harder than normal life. As you may see, not my cuppa. Mine is as it is meant to be. That's why I'm keeping it so, I was sold on the looks, yes, I'm used to it, do I want to fluff my peacock feathers? Probably if I were 30 years younger, but I'd rather class. Thanks Mark.

    • @markholubetz
      @markholubetz  Рік тому

      Absolutely and sometimes keeping it as stock makes sense because there was a reason we were attracted to it in the first place. The other fact that F types are not very common anyways means it’s almost guarnateed you will never see another one exactly on the street.

  • @quantumpeenapple830
    @quantumpeenapple830 Рік тому +1

    If it's your car and you don't care about resell value, go wild and do whatever makes you happy. I see some hideous car builds on the road but they still make me happy that someone is enjoying the heck of their ride. I personally wouldn't do much to an F-Type. If I wanted to change it up I'd just get it wrapped in a new colour every couple of years which doubles as protection for the car. Maybe a different set of rims that have a little more negative offset than stock. The sound system could use an upgrade as the Meridian Surround Sound isn't great, but that upgrade would be more so to keep the wife happy. My preferred sound system will be the exhaust with fuse 15 pulled.

    Honestly I don't know how I feel about that black and red F-Type. I'm leaning towards meh.. waste of money. I like the blacked out rear and maybe even the wheels but the rest just looks a bit tacky. I'm of a similar mindset to you when it comes to mods.
    I have a final gen Celica and I spent months deciding on each mod. The result is a great looking modern car design that people still appreciate for being a classy sports car. It's no F-Type but I love driving it. Just to give you an idea of my mods, I've had upgraded cams to smooth out the increase in BHP from the VVTL-i, added an induction kit and the official Toyota Racing (TRD) rear valance and skirts along with the wheels that came with the higher model of my car. I bought the wing and scoop that come from the JDM model and also a TRD quick shifter and rare USDM TRD exhaust. All of the parts as OEM as possible with me choosing the ones I like the best. The only aftermarket parts I added were a front lip which clears speed bumps but looks great, and a few bits to make the car look more modern. I added some hubcentric spacers and BC racing coilovers for a better ride and some larger brakes for better stopping. Those being some restitching of the steering wheel, and leather padding inside, some chrome rings on the vents, and some amazing smart/sporty looking custom dials I designed. One final bit for me was the front headlights; I bought an aftermarket set and had the projectors ripped out and retrofitted with quality ones from The Retrofit Source although I need to fix these a little. It sounds like a lot but these cars didn't came out 20+ years ago and are out dated unless you do a bunch of things to them. All in all the car looks like it should have at it's peak from the factory if it came out today. I saw a few modified examples recenlty and a completely stock GTS and none of them look close to mine through the lense of a minimalistic, sporty but classy and modern perspective.
    When I get the F Type I can't see myself doing much more than you have, it looks great. Jaguar don't really have many options for upgrades out of the factory and the SVR bits are exclusive to that model so if I can I'll just buy an SVR but I really want your colour which I think is very very rare in an SVR. I may consider swapping wheels to other OEM versions and changing the front growler to a leaper but I need to find one with cooled seats as I'm tired of having a sweaty behind in the summer lol. I'll probably look into a speaker upgrade, sound deadening as a first step but nothing crazy, it really doesn't need it. My moneys going to be spent on PPF and Ceramic coating along with having a the Y pipe replaced along with the SC coupler and fluids to start with. Then it's just saving for any general maintenance and tyres.

    • @markholubetz
      @markholubetz  Рік тому +1

      Great choice on the SVR as I agree they are the best of the breed. Either way even an R can gain some updates like carbon and alcantara, wings, etc. It really just lacks the wing and front fenders as well as the updated exhaust. All great choices. I also love that Celica we had one in the family a few years ago and they are very fun cars and a cool style in the latest gen.

    • @LagunaLeonhart
      @LagunaLeonhart Рік тому

      @@markholubetz they really are, so under rated. Have you heard the SVR exhaust next to your R? It's difficult to tell on videos but the SVR one sounds like it has a lot more treble in the exhaust notes while the R feels like it has more base. Am I imagining it?

    If you can afford to make it "yours" and not be bothered you probably won't see anywhere near the resell price you'd have otherwise? Have some fun with it!
    If you're a little bit more budget conscious and you really want to make something yours, you're better off getting something far less expensive and far more common and "making it yours". If you do get something a little nicer and at the upper end of your budget and you don't plan on keeping it forever keep the mods light in both performance and appearance.
    I'm torn right now between my '00 Trans Am and my '16 R. I could make an absolute drag monster w/ the Trans Am and it won't matter; the car is already "mine" and it's a dime-a-dozen F-body few people care about. If I go nuts on the R, yeah, I've got a stupid-fast ride that's fairly rare, but I'm kind of stuck with it now vs. having the option to easily swap at any time as I do now. The market for heavily modified luxury/sports cars is so small, it's easy to box yourself into having to keep your ride or eat a sickening loss upon selling it.

    • @markholubetz
