I do like the water changing system that you have it’s done so quickly without any mess or water spillage I’m just in the process of returning to the hobby and seeing this has certainly given me something to think about 🤔 Paul 🇬🇧
Glad to know you are just using tap water, I am planning on buying some discus from you guys when I get my tax refund. I currently have 9 discus and keep them all in tap water. I'm on the Gold Coast and I think my pH is around 7.4 Not sure about GH and all the rest but It must be ok because my fish are healthy and I have 2 pairs that both have fry.
Thank you for making these informative videos. The water in my area is really bad, I am Currently using RO/DI water for my reef aquariums. Looking to put together a Discus tank. Can you make a video on how to prepare the water from an RO/DI unit. What is needed since everything is filtered out, been trying to find information on this that is up to date with currently available products since things change over the years.
Pool salt? This is OK? That's awesome to know much cheaper than the salt you buy from the pet shops. Could you do a video on peppering in discus please. Love your videos awesome content
Discus nowadays especially asian discus are well accustomed to ph between 6.5-7.8. This parameter is the same as most of all water Ph in Australia. I would not reduce Ph nowadays unless for breeding purposes. Test your tap water and maintain it would be best
I understand changes water often for discus growth faster but the time and waste of water even I use waste water for gardening and carrying out the bucket is so much times and money... can I use API stress zyme once every week to keep water crystal clear clean everything and changes water every two weeks haft tank instant
Thank you. You want to keep tds below 300 where possible. But at same time, i dont want you to use too much chemicals to bring this down. Have you tested your tap water?
Hi, I am just waiting for the arrival of my 6 discus from you guys in Sydney. Just wondering about adding salt after a water change, wont that raise the hardness of the water? My tap water ( North Brisbane) is 3 degrees or 50 ppm both GH and KH, can I add the salt without the water being too hard?
Hi Kelvin, How do you keep the bottom of the bare bottom so clean? How often do you vacuum the bottom? I still get detritus collecting on the bottom even after vacuuming and water change . Can’t seem to get it all?
@@OZDiscus awesome, do you guys beside adding fish V add any other discus salts and or buffers for the discus I'm looking at getting back into the south American stuff but wanted to start something less fragile then the discus Back in the days I use to use geoliquid for discus
@@kevinn357 Hi Kevin, no we only add salt, fish V and also prime/safe for chlorine removal to water. Nowadays, discus are alot more accustomed to our tap water than they used to be. You dont need to use geoliquid etc at all.
The only way you can do that is to have a drum set up with a heater and you pump preheated water into the tank. If you can reach a faucet in kitchen or in laundry, you can certainly get a connector for a hose to run to the faucet. From there you can adjust hot and cold water doing into your tank.
Hello, Could you be more specific what you mean by tap water? Is it water directly from the grid or from the water tank which have been fill 24h prior the water change
Here is something not mentioned and please correct me if I'm wrong. The fish love big water changes no doubt, however I have been doing exactly this for months, however at times this has brought about a spike with my canister filters...eg after 36 hours water starts to go cloudy and ammonia/nitrites go up. When researching this online I come up with, "water in the tank is more acidic than the water you are putting in and thus causes a spike"...It's happened to me a few times now doing 80 to 90% weekly WC. What do you think I'm doing wrong?
Are you adding in dechlorinator as you are doing the water change? If not you should add before, during and after. When you mention spiking, are you referring to Ph? If Ph is frequently dropping low in your tank, that means your water is either very soft or you need to do more water changes as ammonia is going up throughout the week turning your water acidic from waste. If this is the case, you need to get this under control. 1) look at changing some old media to new media 2) large water change and frequency 3) reduce feeding for at least 2 weeks and monitor Ph. Discus should be ok between Ph of 7-7.8. This shouldnt be a shock to them during water change. Hope this helps
@@OZDiscus Hi Kelvin, yes using prime (and salt) each water change as per instructions (sometimes use Stress Coat). I only do what instructions say e.g. Prime 10ml for 400L tank. Sometimes I will get an ammonia spike say 36 hrs after the change, and from my internet readings some put it down to PH difference...dunno if that's right or not. I have 4 tanks and if it was just one, I'd say it's the filtering, but it has happened on all tanks. I'm in Cairns so the water up here is pretty soft, PH 6.8 out of the tap. Don't think it the filters as each tank is cycled min 7 times per hour. Most of my tanks are understocked e.g. the 400L only has 5 discus + small tank mates. Looks like I'm up for two changes per week unfortunately 😐 BTW thanks for all the info you guys put online, no doubt Australia's premier Discus retailer.
@@krishutchinson1739 thanks for the info. Keep us updated if upping your frequency creates more stability. Thanks for joining the channel. Btw, after ammonia spiking, what happens? Does it drop back to 0 very quickly after 36 hrs?
Salt has been used in tropical aquarium hobby for decades. Dosage is 1 tablespoon per 20L and at WC, replace what you take out ONLY. Its great to help your fish. NOTE: pool salt or aquarium salt only. DO NOT USE table salt 😳

Sure will add to one of the topics. Yup. Same stuff, save some money re salt
I paused the video at 7:31, then I went and did my 70% water change and now I am back
Fish will love it

The aquarium salt will not do damage to the marine pure? Thanks
wonderful video. can water be directly added to gold fish tank from tap water ? with seachem safe added and do we need to add salt for goldfish well ?
How frequently to do the water change please..!!?
Min and max time.!?
Can we use RO water for Discus
Yes you can use RO. Pls make sure to add all the essential elements back to the RO. Ie: discus buffer from Seachem etc

what size are the pipes?
Hello good day. I'm curious what's on the right side of the tank it's like a block looking thing.
My submersible pump water tds is 450 ppm, i want to keep discus fish, what should i do sir?
Thank you. You want to keep tds below 300 where possible. But at same time, i dont want you to use too much chemicals to bring this down. Have you tested your tap water?
If it remains high, then consider an RO system
Can i keep discus fish in 150 tds water?
After a water change, is the dosage for Fish V on the total water volume of the tank or just on the amount of new water put in?
We add to full amount. so if tank is 100L, after a WC, we would use 1 drop for 100L.

How do you know what temperature the water is ??? I don't see any thermometers ??
Our room is fully temp controlled
Is the salt really needed or optional? Seachem salt is very pricy in our country
Optional. Just depicting what we do.
I have lemon tetras with my discus. 11 discus in 500 ltr tank. Would salt be OK in the tank with the lemon tetras?
Dosage rate of 1 tablespoon per 20L should be fine for tetra. If worried, 1/2 the dose.
Thankyou for the reply mate.
Thankyou very much
Do you add salt in breeding pair as this will lead to higher tds.?
That is correct. If your water already has high TDS, then i would skip the salt. In breeding tanks, salt is optional.
What size are the marinepure blocks?
Do you guys care about kh and gh?
No Sydney water is neutral. We dont have to change the Kh or Gh.

Hello,

Is it water directly from the grid or from the water tank which have been fill 24h prior the water change
for us here in Australia, directly from the grid as long as you use safe/prime. But should your tap water be an issue, you may want to look at RO.
